I was daydreaming about Vegas while working out this morning (and while eating, driving, showering, cleaning up the kitchen, taking out the trash...:rolleyes2:) and it occurred to me that there are a ton of places I've yet to set foot in. I'm a creature of habit. What can I say?

I took a quick mental inventory of all the near-Strip and downtown places I've never been to and I was surprised how many there were.

So, which of these joints should be on my to-do list for my trip next month...and why?

    Lucky Dragon
    SLS
    Hard Rock
    Gold Coast
    Palms
    El Cortez
    Downtown Grand
    Circus Circus
    Silver Sevens
    Ellis Island

Any reason you have for recommending that I spend some time at one (or more) of these places is valid (gaming, food, vibe, whatever). I believe I've set up the poll to allow you to vote for up to three options.

    Thanks! :headbang:

El Cortez and Ellis Island are my favorite places on that list, but maybe you'd better hit Lucky Dragon and SLS before they close.

I would check out Circus Circus. its certainly the most distinct of all the ones on your list. I wouldn't stay there, but I would check it out

Hard Rock. Lots of different characters in there, plus the memorabilia. Make sure to pick up a Pink Taco tee shirt.

    My vote... SURPRISE... Hard Rock!!!

You'll be surprised at how nice and well maintained it is. Lots of places to eat, drink and check out the pool eye-candy too!

El Cortez, followed by El Cortez and finally El Cortez.

It's been there since 1941 essentially with the same facade which is unique for Vegas. Great beer service, low limits, laid-back vibe.

Ellis Island is fun...and their steak special is a bargain. The Gold Coast has a great breakfast buffet for a very reasonable cost.

El Cortez - it's just so old, a historic place, $10 prime rib special, you might catch a good "Murph and the Magic Tones" type band playing and I got a free key chain when I replaced my players card.

Palms - It's a really nice and clean casino. I like the layout, lighting, not too High Roller, good food options too.

Circus Circus - picked this for selfish reasons - I want more interior shots of whatever vintage bits are left!

Ladies getaway, somewhere on the strip with a pool :)

El Cortez because they are trying to keep it old school and that deserves some support. Followed by Ellis Island because of the cheap good eats. I kinda like the Palms and SLS is an acquired taste but I am wondering if it would be better to see them after new ownership gets a chance to put their vision in place. That applies to a lesser extent to Gold Coast. The management hasn't changed there but they will be slowly rolling out new things there over time.

Great stuff, gang! Thanks for all the replies. Keep 'em coming. :headbang:

Looks like El Co is leading the pack with Ellis Island and Gold Coast next.

The GC crowd seems to be mostly silent. Is it all about Ping Pang Pong? Or are there other draws?

I voted Lucky Dragon, Palms, and Ellis Island. The first and last because I haven't been there either and I want to know what people think lol. The middle one I like as a good place to play some, get away from the craziness of the Strip, and have a good, inexpensive buffet.

I'd never stay there but I would at least give Circus Circus a visit. Its the 4th oldest strip resort and will be 50 years old next year (and showing its age). Still, its kind of fun to see one of the resorts that was well ahead of its time in regards to themed resorts. I stop by CC, for a drink and a quick look around, about every other trip.

A place that is not on the list but I like to stop in from time to time is the Silverton, south of MB on LVB. It has a rustic, woodsy feel to it and has a real cool bar/lounge with aquariums and cool lighting. Its a great place to go for a drink and they also have some very good BJ games there as well.

    :peace:

I voted Palms. I was pleasantly surprised by it last year when I stopped in to collect my chip and gamble a lil.

...well, I selected them as one of my choices because they have great $5 & $10 3:2 double-deck pitch blackjack, with DAS permitted... just a few minutes from the strip....oh, and they have a UTH table too...oh yeah - they also have a TGI-Friday's there that's easy to get table-comps for!

I voted Downtown Grand, but that's because I've never been there. We've been everywhere else on the list and quite frankly, would never go back to any of them. Not that they are bad, just that they aren't to our tastes and we can find the same things elsewhere that are. But if you've never been to El Cortez, you really should stop by. It's a bit of history.

Downtown Grand is one of my favorites. If you like downtown but tire of smoke and noise, it is perfect. I am surprised it's not busier considering how nice it is.
