Does the Aria plan to have a resident show?

I know a cirque show used to be in the Aria until they tore it down for more convention space. But are there any plans to have a show in there in the future??? Having a show seems to be a must have for any resort on the strip that wants a broader appeal.

And if not how close is the T-Mobile arena or other show venues?

I don't take long Vegas trips. Maybe 2-3 days on average. So I usually like to pick a different hotel./ casino for each trip and try out their pool, gaming, bars and clubs, dining, other attractions, and resident shows. Rarely will I leave the property unless other properties are close by or connected.

And not having a resident show would almost eliminate the Aria as a potential stay for me since that is one less option to do there

As you note, they replaced the theater with more convention space after two Cirque shows failed. There is no disclosed plan to change this.

T-Mobile and the Park arenas are both out through Monte Carlo

Since they gave up on the designated space and spent so much money converting to meeting space - I see no chance in the near future they would reverse that decision.

Many casinos do not have a residency and do just fine. I think MGM in that part of town is pushing shows towards TMobile Arena and the theatre at Monte Carlo.

The show they had in there (Zarkana) had been tanking for a while, so MGM counting beans per usual, they realized all that space would make more sense as convention space, so there you go. Highly doubt they will have a show again on property, but it's Vegas so who knows in a few years. You're surrounded by other MGM resorts with venues, though, Ka at MGM, Zumanity at NYNY, O at Bellagio, The Park is right there - I guess that's why they figured it wasn't necessary to keep an unsuccessful show running.

I feel like the smart thing to do would be to build convention space that could easily be converted into a moderately sized theatre. I recently discovered that a lot of multiplex cinemas do something similar... they'll hire out theatres as presentation spaces for businesses to have meetings/presentations in. Naturally, it can still be used as a regular theatre, thus maximizing the possible uses to bring in revenue.

On the same way of thinking, I suspect that a convention room could have stadium-style seating and a stage, which would be perfect for longer presentations/speeches/talks/etc., but could also be used for shows at the right time as well.

    You're missing a few things:

Not all conventions are presentations. Some are vendor booths and equipment demos. You cannot have stadium seating/tiered concrete floors in your main room if you ever want to hold one of these events.

While I've not been in the new Aria space, I've been to enough conventions. They can and do have large speeches and presentations in rooms without stadium seating. Many of these events use rows of tables so people have ability to take notes, not just seats.

You need more than a stadium to hold shows. You need food/drink vendors, ticket taking capacity, etc.

MGM can still funnel you to their shows at bellagio and Monte Carlo. They can't funnel some of these conventions to other properties based on the size of their space.

It's difficult for me to imagine it makes sense to keep a theatre at aria for shows and conventions. You need to go one way or the other. I trust MGM knew what they were doing.

Does the Aria plan to have a resident show? I sure hope not! I had the displeasure to sit through 3 Cirque stinkers there. Elvis, which just didn't make sense and was less "Cirque" and more random dancing in front of giant screens showing Elvis. Zarkana 1, which was heavy on the creepy with a long drawn out show. I remember watching someone make shapes out of sand projected on a big screen, for 20 minutes! And Zarkana 2, which had more circus stuff, and less weird theme. But it ended up pretty much being a variety show.

None of them lived up to a Cirque experience. 3 strikes and they are out!
