Can dining at a property and not gambling there affect your rating? For example if I were to stay at Wynn and dine at an MLife property but not gamble there or use my MLife card in any way would MLife pick up that I am in Vegas and not giving them any play? In my example I would be paying by credit card.

I learned the hard way a few years ago that dropping in and playing a little can have a negative affect on your ratings. I was staying at Caesars and played at Mirage using my MLife players card. I played a dollar Top Dollar machine and after only a couple of spins I hit the $1.000 top prize. I immediately cashed out and went back to Caesars. For my next trip I wanted to stay at Mirage again and couldn't get a good offer like I used to get there. When I called casino marketing they told me that I only had a small amount of coin in on my last visit and it negatively impacted my rating. I explained that I was staying elsewhere and they said that didn't matter,

I know better about gambling at a property and using my players card but I was wondering if dining there and paying with a credit card can also hurt future offers.

If you don't "swipe" your card, AFAIK, the casino has no way of knowing that you were there.

How about showing a Player's Card to get a discount off a buffet?

AFAIK, if your card is swiped, it's a visit. Not worth it for a buffet visit, imo.

Answer is yes and no, depending on the question.

Dining will not improve your ADT at all. ADT is based on play.

BUT, if you use your card for dining or anything else, they consider you are "on property",and your play will count into your average.

So, do not use your card for small comps that can screw up your overall offers.

I had a trip where I stayed at MGM Grand for only two nights over a weekend, and then used Express Comps at a restaurant the following Wednesday without playing at all. I didn't notice any effect on the next couple of cycles of offers. Theoretically, if the day I used Express Comps counted, I would have expected an effect because it either would have counted by itself as a no play trip, or it would have cut my ADT for that week by 1/3rd or 1/4th.

Hunter, the CET host who posted here for awhile, once said at CET "on any day where comps are extended, play is expected." I used to read his posts really closely to see if I could decipher what it meant in this type of situation, and I took it to mean, at the very least, that if you redeem Rewards Credits (or do something like get free show tickets), that day is going to count, whether you play or not.

Whether it also means earning Rewards Credits, I can't tell. If you're walking through Caesars and you buy a bottle of water in the gift shop and you pay cash and give them your card and get 3 Rewards Credits, is that "receiving" a comp? I don't think so, but I don't really know. If you get the bottle of water and pay the $3 by using points? Probably counts, according to how Hunter put it.

Does anyone know if it also works the same way at Boyd properties? It's nice to take non-gaming friends to a buffet at Boyds sometimes, since I get a nice discount as a Sapphire member, but I won't continue to do that if it means it counts as a day of play...

What about a MyVEGAS comp? I will be staying non MLIFE upcoming trip but have a few MyVEGAS dinners I plan to use that I would also like to receive MLIFE points for with my receipt afterwards. Do you think this factors into ADT?

Had not really thought about this. Headed out tomorrow and staying at Bally's on a CET comp. Thought I would just play at CET properties this trip as my gambling time will be limited. But we are going to Lago for brunch and have tickets to LOVE. Not getting any "comp" from MGM so was thinking there would not be any negative impact to not gambling there - but they will know I am on property - reservations and tickets are already booked through mlife. Maybe I will play at least a little at Mirage before the show.

I really don't think you will get dinged for your attendance at LOVE. The transaction already occurred, all you are going to be doing is possibly picking up the tickets. Will they know you're on property? Eh, I'd be surprised if that specific activity fed into their system that way.

If you low-play at Mirage, you know for sure that it's going to count. I'd take the chance that it won't count at all if you just pick up the tix and go to the show. A 25% of normal play day isn't going to be much better than a zero play day.

What about paying for your dinner with an MLife credit card at an MLife property and not giving them your players card?

Interesting thread. I'll be at Cosmo for 2 nights in August (end of a LA trip) and plan to only play there. However, I do have a small amount of express comps sitting in my MLIFE account I was going to use for a meal. Hate to lose it as I won't be back until next year. Also have a couple MyVegas rewards for meals I was bringing along. Didn't really think about the effect this could have on my ADT if I use them.

Very interesting question. I have lots of travel cards, but not Mlife. Do they give extra points for charges at MGM properties? If so.... it MIGHT trigger something, but probably not. Personally, I would not use it for such a small upside and a larger potential downside. Just not worth it.

I usually have at least one card that I am trying to hit minimum spend on and use that until I hit the spend requirement. Then get another one.

I think you are fine. I have the Total Rewards version and I earn reward credits by making purchases. The credit card holder notifies Total Rewards once a month with a total number to put on the account (players club card). So it comes over in a wave. They have no idea if those points came from gas or on site spending. When you get bonus points on gas, they tell the club in their statement. When you get bonus points by using it at a Total rewards property, they tell the club in the same statement.

Its pretty much just "Mr. Smith gets credited 3500 points for June" Internally they break out those points as $2500 standard spend, $250 on gas/grocery (earned 2X points) and $100 in the Planet Hollywood gift shop (5 x points in a company store) = 3500 to put on their account.

All Total Rewards sees is the OK to dump 3500 rewards cards on their end. They form a partnership when the credit card holder (Barclays, Chase whatever) pays them for the reward credits in order to gain you using their card. Just like credit card companies paying airlines for "miles".

Just got back from my trip. In addition to having the brunch at Lago and seeing LOVE we ended up also going to see MJ One at Mandalay Bay. I had purchased the LOVE tickets in advance under my mlife number. I also gave them my mlife card when paying for the brunch (for 4) at Lago -and also used my mlife number to get a discount on the MJ One tickets (4 at $100+ each) at the box office. So all of those purchases should have been under my mlife number - but I have not had any points added to my mlife tier score. Don't think it matters because I don't think it would impact the tier level I get to this year - but I did at least expect those points. Don't really want to call them about it though as it will highlight the fact that I did zero gaming at any MGM property this trip.

why can't they just program the rating systems to recognize a dining only visit, and NOT count it against your ADT?

I had a similar problem and this is what mLife told me yesterday 6/27/2017):

"Thank you for contacting M life Member Services. We have been experiencing system issues regarding the tier credits on members accounts. Please be informed that our IT Department is still looking into this issue to solve. Please let us know if we can be of any further of assistance."

This was from my early June trip.

I wouldn't worry about asking for the points affecting your rating.

The tier credits for the brunch really should have showed up pretty quickly. They still may.

The tier credits for the shows, if it's worth it to you in terms of advancing to another tier, go ahead and pursue it either at an MLife Desk the next time you're there, or by mailing in the request. Send a copy of any receipt/evidence that you paid for the tix, and copies of the tix if you have them. If it won't make any difference in your tier level at the end of the player year, then it's not worth spending the time.

    Request Guidelines:

Receipts must be no older than 30 days with a minimum total value of $50
Tier Credit adjustment requests for cash transactions MUST include the original receipt
A scanned copy will be accepted for receipts that were paid by credit card
Complimentary payments do not qualify for Tier Credits

To request a Tier Credit adjustment for purchases made in Las Vegas, receipts can be:

    Emailed to: [email protected]
    Faxed to: 702.531.3893
    Mailed to:
    MGM Resorts International Contact Center
    Attn: Member Services
    3549 Sammy Davis Jr. Drive
    Las Vegas, NV 89109

On the receipt, please provide your full name, M life account number, resort name, and contact information.

Please allow up to 72 hours after we receive the request for the adjustment to post to your M life account.

For additional inquiries regarding Tier Credit adjustments or missing Tier Credits, please contact the MGM Resorts Member Services Department at 866.761.7111
