How's the gaming at Harrah's Cherokee?

Thinking of using my free night for signing up for TR Visa at Harrah's Cherokee..little bit longer drive that to where we usually go (HSI) but figure since the room is free will make up for the extra 20 in gas plus no resort fee as opposed to Horseshoe .

Just wondering if there's any locals down that way that can shed some light on gaming?

We've been there several times and find the slots tight. However, there was one VERY bright spot on one of our trips. My husband was playing Bierhaus on what he thought was a penny machine. On the first hit he got a bonus that went on forever. When it ended he thought he had won about $800-a good hit. Then someone pointed out that it was a quarter machine and the grand total was $21K.

It's a very nice property in a nice area, very close to Smokey Mt. NP and not far from Ashville and Gatlinburg if you want to do a little sightseeing. Food choices are pretty good-buffet is good. I Can't tell you about table games because we don't play them but, If you've never been in that area, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

 

Thanks..we go to gatlinburg on occasion but havent made it over to cherokee in several years. From what i remember i like the layout of the casino but reading reviews of the slot and vp..i'm getting a bit concerned and now leaning more towards just going back to Horsheshoe

 

Tight, but a fun place - at least for us.

Decent Diamond Lounge. You pay for drinks in DL and on floor - reasonable prices.
Italian restaurant upstairs is great.

 

Some great VP unfortuneately $5 and up! Don't quite understand why not some quarter and dollars since no comped drinks what is their cost to have people playing?

 

Tough to get a comped room often shows sold out but in reality they hold back a large part if the room inventory for the biggest players. This is understandable just be honest

 

I live in Atlanta, so this is my "local". The slots are tight, but I play table games, so don't mind that much. Rooms are great if you can get one (get the Creek tower if it's an option), and table game limits are generally $10 (though most BJ is $15 from what I've seen). In the DL, you have to pay for the drinks, but they're half priced. Brio and Ruth's Chris are pretty good, and the buffet is as good or better than any mid-tier strip property in my opinion.

Also... years ago the BJ was all electronic. It is now real dealers. They did a major expansion a few years back, and they are opening a bowling alley entertainment complex this fall. Rooms are tight on the weekends, especially if there is a show. They always find rooms for real players.

 

I think he meant why they don't offer any "good" quarter VP. But if I was a casino with zero competition, I dunno if I would offer "full pay" quarter VP myself.

 

Tight slots, decent VP, good food, nice resort. My in laws own a vacation home in Gatlinburg, so rather than deal with them, I go here to get as fucked up as possible and gamble - on a "day trip" of course.

 

It's our home casino, so we are there frequently. Based on my experience, the slots are not any tighter than in Vegas. Try the slots in the HL room; they tend to pay better. As other's have said, you have to pay for drinks, but that has to do with NC state gaming laws and not the casino. If you are Diamond / 7* definitely go to the DL...drinks are half priced and top shelf.

 

Cherokee and Murphy are my home casinos so I go a good bit. The previous posters pretty much covered everything. I never put much stock in the whole "tight slots' thing but I will admit I rarely win in Cherokee. If you do stay, I'd recommend the Creek tower. Property-wise, Harrah's Cherokee is one of the most scenic casinos I've visited.

 

What is the "best" quarter VP? I see lots of good $2 and up VP but I don't want to fade the variance on those machines. I'll be there primarily for a poker tournament but I like to play some VP in the earlier morning hours. Anything close to 98%?

 

Murphy is our home casino during the week, then we are in Cherokee most weekends they have a show. We seem to do ok in HL and tables at Cherokee. Murphy is hit or miss. One month we are up, next month, they get it all back. The area is beautiful. We stay over about 6-10 times a year in Cherokee. The pool is really nice.
