Reasons to choose a non gaming hotel... What makes it a better fit, what makes it worse depending on what you're looking for.

I'm looking at Vdara for an upcoming stay so any notes on that property would be helpful.

    Thanks

    Choose a non-gaming hotel if you don't well...you know...gamble.

The Mandarin has the same top-notch service and rooms as every other Mandarin on the planet. If you enjoy their hotels, and don't need a casino, that may be the place for you.

If you gamble a certain amount you won't have a chance to get your rooms, meals or incidentals comped if you stay at a non gaming hotel.

At the same time you won't see a casino filled with people so it will be just like staying at a regular hotel in any city. Different atmosphere than at a hotel with a casino.

Another option from a non gaming hotel in Vegas is renting a timeshare. Might be handy if you're traveling in a group or even with a 3rd person. Or you're there for reasons besides gambling and debauchery. Maybe you want to do some exploring, hiking, you've got kids with you, you've got 85 year old Mom with you etc. Maybe you're on a diet for medical reasons (salt, fat, etc) and you want to limit your restaurant meals. I think a city with a big cluster of timeshares like Vegas makes renting a timeshare a good option.

Vdara is associated with Aria for comps... which also means they would be hard to get.

Some folks like non casino hotels as they say it is quieter. Personally, once I get to my room, it is the same at either type of hotel in Vegas

We have done Vdara and really missed what other hotels offer. When you are done gambling, the elevator takes you home. No weather issues at all.

I liked Vdara, and had my entire stay there comped based on my play at Aria. I feel Vdara is so close to both Aria and Bellagio, it takes no time at all to go between the properties. I feel that you get more room/suite for the money at Vdara. I would definitely stay there again. But then I really like having a full kitchen so I can make coffee and have some place to keep leftovers and milk for my coffee - so that definitely factors into why I really liked it.

    Vdara advantages:
    • Shorter walk through the lobby to the elevators
    • No smoking anywhere (assuming you don't smoke)
    • No clubs/discos generating loud noise all night

    Vdara disadvantages:
    • Have to walk next door to Aria or Bellagio or Cosmo to gamble
    • Not many food options, again walk to Aria, Bellagio, or Cosmo for lots of choices

The lack of casino is a big minus. Fewer restaurant options is another. For Vdara, I don't see a lot of pluses but for other non-gaming hotels, I would be interested in getting the condo-type amenities.

If really is very close to gaming properties. I haven't measured, but the elevator bank in Vdara might be closer to the Aria casino than the Bellagio Spa Tower is to the Bellagio casino.

Haven't stayed at Vdara (would like to), but did stay at Delano once, and really liked it. It's only a 30 second walk to get from the MB casino from Delano, but it does make you feel like you're getting away to a more secluded, exclusive spot. Getting off the elevators and not immediately having the "screaming eagle" sound from the Buffalo slot hit your ears is nice. At both Vdara and Delano you can eat or have a cocktail away from the noise of the casino too, while knowing Aria or MB are steps away. I wouldn't do it all the time but it's a different energy, more relaxing and kinda cool.

I like the Mandarin because of the service and it is much quieter. You don't have all the annoying "Vegas Rookies" staying there. It is an oasis from the craziness but so close to everything...

I know some consider Delano separate, but many consider it as part of M-Bay. It really is just another hotel in the SAME building/complex. Just a different set of elevators and a hallway. There is no going outside at all. Depending on where you are playing/eating, the Delano elevators might be closer than the M-Bay hotel elevators.

Vdara REQUIRES going outside. No way around it. (okay, the walk over to the back entrance of Bellagio is covered)

This is false - Vdara is associated with Aria so you absolutely WILL get your rooms, meals or incidentals comped if you gamble enough to warrant it. All you have to do is go the the Aria' Players Desk to have them evaluate your play before you check out.

I prefer Vdara because it is a smaller hotel, it has been completely non smoking from day one, and you can just go next door to Aria or Bellagio if you want to visit either of those casinos. Aria is the closer casino while you do have to walk through the back of Bellagio to get to the casino but at the end of the day, unless you have mobility issues it really isn't a big deal.

I vouch too!! Delano is great- also if you want to consider Signature- that is more of a walk but a nice quiet place to stay...I haven't tried Vdara but it seems like it gets nice reviews.

We stayed at the Vdara a couple years ago and the one thing I really liked was the size of the room. We had a basic room, but it faced Aria and it had a room divider with a couch on the other side, plus the bathroom was huge. It was the first room I've stayed in that had the electric window shades.

The best part: the room was quiet, no street sounds or noise pollution from clubs. We could walk to the Bellagio conservatory in about 5 minutes. One minor negative was the pool area, its elevated and on the small side, and when the wind blows there are no wind screens or trees to buffer, so we saw an umbrella go flying. I'm not a fan of Valet (probably from watching Ferris Buhler) but it actually was perfect here because the hotel is relatively small and without a casino, there is less demand for Valet.

I would like to stay here again, but my wife wants to experience Bellagio; I'm not a fan, I feel out of place there. MyVEGAS has a special rate at Vdara, but for some reason I can't seem to pull up the available dates.

I've stayed at Vdara plenty of times. Loved every stay here, I don't have one negative thing to say about Vdara. You're center strip. You get a lot room for the money compared to other properties. Vdara is good if you're not a smoker, don't like inhaling 2nd hand smoke, and don't gamble. I consider myself a rookie gambler, I gamble couple hundred per trip and always found it a breeze to go down from my room at Vdara to Bellagio, or even Cosmo. The fountain view studio rooms are hard to beat for the price. Less expensive than Mandarin, more center strip than Delano. I can highly recommend Vdara.

There's a lot of hair-splitting here. Vdara and Delano aren't "casino" hotels? Bullshit. Sure, you can't just drop down the elevator and have a machine six paces away, but is it really that much of a burden to hoof to the affiliated "casino-hotel" or another? Restaurant selection? It's Vegas, one of the top four or five dining towns in the Once-Great Republic. Lose the four-walls myopia.

Just back from 3 nights at the Vdara. My wife was there for work. Very classy and upscale pool and resort.

The "no casino" was not a problem for me as you are just hundreds of feet away from the free tram to the Monte Carlo/NYNY and that end of the strip. Also I did play a little at the Aria which is lterally right across the parking circle, so very easy access. Very classy and clean. The breakfast café was tasty and not too expensive. I would stay again at Vdara in a sec!
