Cheapest hotel for WSOP period?

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I are going to Las Vegas for the first time this July 5th to July 18th!

As the main intention is to play the WSOP, we're really just looking for a place to lay our head. What's the absolute cheapest (but safe hotel) on the strip or off strip (if the hotel + car rental would be cheaper)!

The cheapest I could find now is golden gate casino for around 1k (with resort fee). Will there be any cheaper hotel than this? Also, can resort fees be waived off with the 20 dollar sandwich trick or is it mostly set in stone? We're mostly going to be playing at other establishments so gambling at the hotel will only happen if we can get the fees waived.

If it's your first time your best bet is Orbitz or the like for finding lowest rates. Unfortunately there are no magical tricks on this board for ferreting out lower rates. Something like a Motel 6 or other similar national chain w/o resort fees will likely be the cheapest, but will also be some distance from the strip, in miles and quality.

You may also want to check Groupon deals, and you'll have to have a Total Rewards acct to be in the WSOP anyway, so you can sign up online and may get a slight discount on CET props that way, but it won't be much for a first timer.

If I can offer a piece of advice, IMO Vegas isn't a place you want to go super low end on accommodations. You can find decent on-strip rooms via Orbiz for around $50-60/night with resort fees. If you came up with the cash to cover the WSOP buy-in you probably have enough to get a decent room and not have to cab in from a crappy Rodeway Inn 20 miles away.

they dont have a resort fee. So now u have to figure out how to get to the Rio every day? bus is $4 a day.

If you don't like traveling so much try this Fremont 5thto 9th $225 Gold Coast 9th to 14th $325 and back to fremont for weekend $14th to 18th $235 total is $785 taxs and gold coast resort fee included.

 

Thanks for the helps guys! I'm thinking I'll just book fremont/gold coast for the first few days and hop around later (maybe I'll just put in some BJ or baccarat hours at CET properties and try to get a room comped for us).

 

If you're going to be playing the main event, I'd suggest staying at GC, and not worrying about commuting to/from DT every day.

For the sake of a couple hundred bucks, it'll save you lots of aggravation, and you can focus on a deep run in the main

I totally agree with Marky147. Having played - I can tell you - the last
thing you want to think about is going back and forth. Plus - if you also plan
on playing some of the deep stacks - they can run for hours and hours and just
being able to bop across to Gold Coast will be a life saver. We used to put in hours
and hours at the tables and having to go back and forth Downtown would have
been a killer.

If you are playing - stay close - or at least an easy commute. Downtown isn't and most
especially if you were thinking of the bus. The stops alone would take you forever.

If you play some of the cash games or the deep stacks - you will really want to be close.

Agree with Niteshade....the last thing you want to worry about after playing a long session is traveling downtown....a hassle & distraction. Also the cost factor should be considered. May need to use cabs or Uber many, many times....even late at nite. Gold Coast is a great option that is across the street from Rio/WSOP. It also has good, cheap eats for something quick. If we're talking proximity being most important than pretty much Gold Coast is your only option. More about the raw dollars? Then yes Silver Sevens comes into play (rooms were actually decent when I stayed). Eiither LVA or ACG has a 2-for-1 room for there. And yes defonitely run a downtown search on Kayak/Orbitz. MSS/Fremont/Cal/4Q all have no resort fees.

 

Silver Sevens coupon in the ACG is good for BOGO nights. Valid 7 days. Must pay for higher priced night and get lower priced night free. Must pay resort fee on paid night. What isn't clear is if you can use it for more than one night free (ex: one coupon, stay 4 nights, pay for 2?). Or, if you can combine the coupons (use 2 coupons to get 4 pay for 2).

All this said, it may not be worth the "commute" as per comments above about long play hours.

 

I agree on Gold Coast. Wild Wild West is also not that far from the Rio, over on Tropicana. It's an old Days Inn converted into a casino, if that tells you anything.

Also don't sleep on that free shuttle bus that runs from Rio to Flamingo and Bally's (and vice versa). That allows you to book some place pretty cheap like Flamingo or Linq and have free transpo to and from Rio.

 

Gold Coast is a solid place to stay. Nothing special, but nice staff and decent, if small rooms. Just walk across the street to Rio for the tournament. ...and they are good on comps for moderate play -- more future offers than back end comps, but a couple grand coin in per day will give you some solid offers.

 

That shuttle to Bally's no longer runs. Now it's just the one between the Rio and Harrah's, which does make any property close to Harrah's a viable option.

One trick I'll give you if you plan to come back next year is to try to get 5,000 tier credits at Caesars/Harrah's during your stay. It's not that hard to reach that level, plus there's some promo called Quest for Rewards (or something like that) going on this summer that will greatly help your effort. The reason Platinum is great is you'll start getting a lot of comped room offers once you hit that second tier. When I looked to book a stay June 22-28 I saw comps all over town at Caesars properties. Ended up booking the Rio for a little over $300 for six nights (had to pay for the weekend nights and, of course, the $30-a-night resort fee.) Still, hard to beat the convenience of Rio for $50 a night.
