I canceled all reservations and got all of my deposits back for our two upcoming Vegas trips.

We're trying to pay off quite a bit of debt right now, and we have a Disney cruise coming up in 2018 that has quite a hefty price tag attached to it. o_O

I just decided it was crazy to be doing two trips to Vegas this summer while trying to tackle some big payoffs. I feel like Vegas is one of those places that will always be there when the timing is right to go back.

The ironic thing is that I'm getting some of the best offers to both Strip and Downtown properties that I've ever gotten. Funny how fate works!

I honestly don't feel much regret and maybe that's because we've made several Sin City trips in the past few years. Time for a break.

We're still getting our girls together with their cousins, so the 5 girls can enjoy some time together. My sister-in-law is just planning some free and/or cheap day trips to do while we're visiting my in-laws in Utah. Beautiful state and the one state that saves us the most money on alcohol when we visit because it's so darn confusing how to buy it in restaurants, bars, etc.

Hope all of you with summer Vegas trips have a fabulous time! :blowkiss:

P.S. I'm keeping my countdown timers just for kicks! LOL

We went to vegas once and knew we should have gone at a different time but our absence was making our hearts grow. Worst trip ever as there was no real relaxation nor karma. Only time we have done it and learned from it. And you are right, vegas will be there when you decide to return. (Just saw Utah reduced blood alcohol % to lowest in the country for dui's purposes so be aware). Have a great trip.

Life happens. You just have to roll with it and try to get the trips scheduled when you can, if you still want to. Sometimes taking a break from a place can make coming back all the sweeter.

if you are canceling for financial reasons there should be zero regret - it's a good decision...

Yup, s... happens. But vegas will always be around (in our lifetime I hope) so you can always go another time.

I cancelled this past January's vegas CES trip. I had a major 7 month project going on at work (implemented Jan 1) and while I had the okay to go I was afraid that things would blow up starting Jan 1 so I waited because I wasn't sure if it would be ready by Jan 1. By the time I was confident that we could get it done by Jan 1 the airline prices were sky high (over $1100 for a r/t from HNL to LAS versus $600 normal prices). I had my other reservations all set up, car, hotel, etc. but I cancelled them because I just didn't want to pay the higher prices. I can always go in 2018 or 2019 or whenever so it wasn't that bad for me to cancel a trip.

I have done that a few times. Never looked back. There's always tomorrow and Vegas will still be there, it ain't going nowhere.

I can think of a few things that would make me NOT regret it too much:
if I went to the local casino and hit a huge jackpot.
if I "got lucky" in other areas of my life and made a huge score! :wink2:

but seriously, it is always easy and fun to plan another Vegas trip.

I cancelled a trip for later this month about a month ago. Just wasn't feeling it and rescheduled for December. First time I've cancelled a trip that close to the time I would be going but no regrets at all about putting it off until I get that good LV vibe.

Well done Vegasworm; you must be in the 0.0001% of the population that realises that debt extinguishment takes priority over discretionary spend.

I bought a car in December and told myself I was going to penalize myself 1 Vegas trip this year (from 4 to 3) so I could pay down some of the debt. So I cancelled a July trip, making this year a March/August/Xmas year.

Then of course I took a 2 day trip for my birthday in April. :bang:

Yeah, I had to not only cancel a trip but couldn't plan a trip for several years. (my life was a country and western song for a while, but, I learned to love country and western so we're OK). It was awful. Just awful.

But, now we're on a break from Vegas for 2017 and possibly 2018 and I'm OK with it.

I had to cancel one last year. I was planning on riding my motorcycle there, that was the main point of the trip but it ended up pouring rain the whole time so a few days before i cancelled. riding in the springtime sunny weather is a bit nicer then riding 350 miles in pouring rain.

I've never cancelled a Vegas trip and I once thought it was unthinkable, but nowadays I'm thinking if we ever have to cancel I can honestly say, "Yeah, I can do that...."

I had to cancel once in 2014 since I was laid off, so there was no choice in that decision but I knew Vegas would always be there, and it was nice to get back when I got a new job.

Mike, understandable, your reasoning. Saddened, as I always look forward to your trip reports. Was especially looking forward to your observations regarding the downturn poised against the Golden Nugget (mostly because of the bartender/drink system and bar VP folks.) Will give my feedback, though I am not a VP player (especially at the GN due to their poor paytables.) I generally don't drink at the BJ or Craps tables, but will do so at the LIR.

Bu$hman, It looks like I'll be out there after all. I just got an invite to come out for a few days with a VMB buddy and I suddenly have the vibe. I'm staying at the GN and will be sure to post some comments, probably a TR, on downtown and the GN.

My 40th birthday (November) was in 2013. Like an asshole I got a DUI in September. Cancelled flights, hotels, show tix, lost a bunch of MyVegas shit I bought..Regret, yep, sure as hell did. But we did go the next year and had a pretty good time.

Just be careful on the cruise. I've heard Disney cruises have a huge mouse problem! :D
