My wife and I were dumb enough to go to a time share presentation this past week while visiting Las Vegas and what they rep offered was technically given we felt so scammed by it anyway. Here is what was offered:

    2 show tickets

2 vacation tickets for 3 days

2 $100 slot plays for Casino Royale.

Here is what we really got:

2 show tickets that have 1 one get one free offer

2 vacation tickets that you really have to pay for

2 $100 slot play that can only be used on 8 pre-selected slot machine and the only way to win any money is to hit the jackpot so even when my wife had won over the $100 given she still did not win.

I will not say the company's name for legal reasons but just avoid them at all cost!

Thanks for posting it. So many people want to believe. I've met plenty of good people in Vegas, but anyone who aggressively approaches you just wants your wallet.

So you fell like you got gulled yet you somehow can't name the malefactor? Please.

Like every other contentious issue here, which is about 98.5 percent of the topics, this whole timeshare thing runs the gamut. Folks gotta do what they gotta do. Too bad it wasn't what you expected.

    Why, thank you Captain Obvious!

Pray Tell, what are the legal issues? Did you seek council or did they warn you not to tell a soul, lest you get two behind the ear?

Did the place start with West and end with Gate?

By the way, did this message board help make your trip a little better?

And it applies to all kinds of aggressive sales pitch.

    They say they "care".

They say it's not about the money, but to better ones way of life. (Theirs, LOL!)

They say they are "genuinely" interested in your welfare. Yeah. uh huh. sure.

    They offer freebies. :kill::kill::kill:

Like we've all heard before....there is no such thing as a free lunch.

The timeshare debate has been held thousands of times online via so many forums and outlets, it's stunning.

I won't say much today. I went to two timeshare presentations in Mexico in April. First time in more than 10 years I've willingly subjected myself to one. (And I never intended to go to one in Mexico.) I got legitimately valuable tickets out of the second pitch. I got a potentially wrothwhile return trip offer out of the first one. Track down my recent blog posts if you really want to read about the crazy, wacky timeshare adventures I had in Mexico. The link to the blog is below this posting.

I've heard many people talk about how they deal with timeshare hawkers in Vegas. Some are blunt, others pretend they're invisible. I was reminded of my favorite defense mechanism while in Mexico, which I finally started using toward the end of the trip. Whenever anyone asks me how long I'm in town/on vacation, I say I'm leaving tomorrow, and cite some show or plans I have for that evening. My stock answer in Vegas (which I rarely have to give, as I don't get approached very often by people hitting me up for timeshare pitches, grand canyon tours or weddings: "I'm leaving tonight."

You had to have known when you went to it what to expect. Hopefully a lesson has been learned.

Thanks for sharing. Just know you are not the only one.
I didn't but I have several friends experienced the same.
The worst part was not the bad experience or time wasted,
it was the offers (goodies) they received in the end worth exactly nothing, nada, zero.

Just got back from Vegas. When we first met up with my stepson and his girlfriend he mentioned that he just got those things you mentioned. Being the Vegas vets we are, his mother and I just looked at him and said have a great time.:D When we saw him later he gave us all the details and we just laughed. Now he knows!

The first thing I would do if I were in the market for a timeshare would be to see if I could rent a unit for a week to get a better feel for the place. If I were still interested after doing that, I would check local newspapers. Sometimes a comparable week in a comparable unit is heavily discounted.

Work work work to get precious vacation time. Travel to Vegas, incurring xyz expenses. Then subject yourself to one of these for relative peanuts in "free" stuff? I just don't get it.

It sounds to me like a classic case of stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime.

I'm not anti-timeshare, not by any stretch. We know people who have been happy owners for years. We have stayed in quite a few going through services like VRBO. But if you want a timeshare, it is like any significant purchase: research and use reason. If you are trying to somehow extract more "value" out of a Vegas vacation, there are so many other ways to do that and not compromise your time or your sanity.

To the OP: Casino Royale used to offer the exact same type of "free play" for anyone walking in off the Strip when you signed up for a Players Card. I did it years ago and quickly realized what a crock it really was but at least I didn't have to sit through any presentation to do it. I am not sure if they still do it, or if the amount is the same, but considering they aren't really giving you anything, I am sure they probably do.

I truly don't understand why people feel a need to make up stories for the timeshare hawkers who approach. Seriously? Why do you feel that you owe these people any explanation whatsoever? I look past them, ignore and walk by if they try to approach. No one has ever really continued to follow me, but if they did I would whirl around and bark "NO!" loudly and keep going. I am not on vacation to be harassed by these peddlers, and when someone is clearly not interested, they just need to back off. I understand they are only "doing a job", but when that job consists of trying their hardest to pressure me into a large, long-term financial commitment (that is nearly impossible to get rid of if you want to sell), I don't have to explain anything - the answer is a firm NO.

As for checking local newspapers for a timeshare deal, it's even easier to go online - there are many bargain basement listings on eBay for timeshares worldwide and there is also a Timeshare Message Board with a classified section if anyone is interested in buying (or selling)! This is the link to that board for anyone interested:

I have not been approached in years, but then again going as a single male, I am not the target demographic. When my wife and I went, I once told the guy that I did not have time to talk, I picked her up down the street and was paying by the minute. She got a laugh, he got a laugh, I got a laugh and that was that.
