Wife and I have been going to vegas for 20 + years. In younger days stayed on strip then downtown where we've gone last 10 or so. All trips have been comped, limo pickup, blah blah. GN.

Usual trip 14 nights, upcoming looking at strip for 3 nites. Narrowed down to Mirage, Cosmo,Wynn.

Need smoking room: looks like Mirage offers smoking room (is this correct?). Wynn I can't tell. Cosmo has balcony so ok to smoke there (is this correct?).

Gambling is the MAIN piece: I'm 61 wife 57 so which of the hotels do we fit in best? Looks like Cosmo is a young crowd, especially on weekends BUT we'd be there during the week. We're 70% slots, rest bj and craps. Like WOF. BJ $25 - $100, craps $10. We put in our time 6-8 hours a day. Comps similar at all?

Suites: looks like all 3 I'm considering have that. Cosmo with the terrace is probably at the top BUT is there alot of noise from fellow balcony guests? I know this can vary but in general those who have stayed there has it been quiet?

    Thanks for your help.

I believe Mirage (and all MGM properties) have done away with smoking rooms. Definitely no smoking in Wynn rooms. If that's a dealbreaker, you're in a Cosmo terrace room by default here. The views you get from those are amazing if you can face the fountains.

Never had much issue from the young crowd during the week at Cosmo - on the weekend it turns into a mob scene though. Have had a lot of fun gambling there (Craps, Blackjack, Slots) with my wife and not feeling like we don't fit in there. Wouldn't worry about that during the week.

If the smoking isn't a dealbreaker, would also consider Wynn for the gambling and the overall demographic. Not sure I'd group Mirage in with those two properties - maybe Aria or Bellagio instead of Mirage, if you were considering an MGM/MLife option.

I believe the Cosmo has guest rooms with balconies on them. They call it terrace rooms and they different types. That can solve your smoking requirement right there... double check that you can smoke on them though...

Since you're not there on a weekend it should be quiet. But yeah Cosmo trends pretty young. The older quieter version of Cosmo would be Aria.

Wynn would be good because you would get access to 2 casinos without having to go outside. Wynn and Encore. My parents gamble and they love the idea of connecting Casinos... If you're superstitious like they are sometimes you can be running cold and think a change of venue could change your luck.

I have, the terrace rooms with the view of the fountains are amazing. The casino is a lot of fun, so long as you don't need a poker room (I usually do unless it's a trip with my wife).

TRN did you have any noise issues in room?
Is this correct: West tower quieter than East but longer walk to casino? You get drink tickets when you play slots?

Definitely Cosmo terrace suite is the way to go. You can smoke on the terrace; there is an ashtray out there. I rarely hear fellow guests when on the terrace.

I've had great experiences. Never noticed noise. Higher room helps I've heard.

Don't know about east vs west. I've stayed in both without issue. One is a little closer to the casino floor but the other isn't all that far. Wouldn't base decision on that point alone.

I am not familiar with that one - not a huge drinker here - maybe someone who has been there recently can comment on that question.

Definitely Cosmo the only other place with better slot selection is Venetian/Palazzo IMO. I'm mid 40's and weekday crowd at Cosmo is more mature than the weekend club goers. I've stayed there and the rooms are quiet but west tower more quiet due to the chateau night club and Drais. By the sounds of your play you may get an upgrade to the wraparound terrace which is one of my favorites in Vegas. Did you contact Kevin Sweet from Cosmo...he was doing match offers for new players....GN is not quite the same caliber but they will adjust your offer accordingly

I strongly recommend the Cosmopolitan for what you are looking for. They have decent (but not great) rules at BJ in the $25-100 range on the main floor on their shoe games (3:2, DAS, RSA, surrender, but H17). The craps tables are fun.

The rooms are fantastic. The balconies are perfect if you are a smoker. I found the rooms and hallways to be very quiet - they clearly insulated their rooms well and the doors are heavy.

I believe the drink tickets are only for video poker at some of the bars. There are several threads on here about it. In short, if you play pretty consistently you should have no problem with the tickets. Drink service and drink quality on the floor is very good.

If you are there for 14 days and want to try a new upscale place for 3 days, give Cosmo a shot.

We've stayed at Cosmo 3 trips, all terrace rooms. We've never had a problem with noise from other guests on the terrace. The one thing to ask is to be away from the pool day club....THAT can be louder, but guests? We've always been surprised how little noise there is from other guests.

Now, doesn't mean it CAN'T happen...but 3 out 3 for having a great, quiet room (including all the time on the terrace) is a pretty solid streak.

And DON'T worry about a "young scene". We're in our 40s and Cosmo has a healthy mix of all ages. Honestly, it's pricier enough that it's definitely not just 20 year olds...there are lots of people of ALL ages. We love the fact it's fun and vibrant, but polished enough that it's not just a place that appeals to the young/club crowd.

I'm actually shocked by how many people you see there who look like movers and shakers (established professionals), but movers and shakers who are relaxed and having a good time! Just a fun, elegant spot.

    Whatever you pick, enjoy!

@checkchange - We've stayed at Cosmo 4 times now and we are older than dirt.:D
Cosmo would be a good fit on the smoking front - rooms at Mirage are non smoking now and rooms are no smoking at Wynn.
Cosmo 'West' Tower now named 'Chelsea tower' is our preference - quiet and close to lobby for checkin and guest services plus close to taxi/valet etc. Have never had noise issues in West Tower - higher floors have better views.
East' Tower now named 'Boulevard Tower' is popular for quicker access to most restaurants and the street or other casinos.
Note the Terrace Suites are West (Chelsea) Tower - absolutely be sure to get a fountain view - for us, that is the main draw to Cosmo, otherwise Cosmo is just another very nice hotel (just my opinion).
The younger crowd isn't a factor except on weekends - there are a kazillion younger folks on weekends having a fun and loud time, but we tune them out while playing slots. Lots of 'suits' and techies during the week for conventions/conferences.
We play slots - no tickets for drinks - just flag down a CW as in other casinos.
Video Poker at bars do use the ticket system for drinks.
    Good slot selection.
No help here on table games.
Re comps - Cosmo does back end comps based on play, be sure to get Identity card and folks at players desk are helpful answering specific questions. Think there is a 2 for 1 buffet for new members with relatively little play. Good buffet (Wicked Spoon).
We love the Mirage (our home base). And Wynn is an awesome place to stay - but we find the slots really tight there.
Bellagio would also be a good fit - not sure what current smoking policy is in the rooms.

Best of luck wherever you stay.

Wynn has smoking floors, 30 and 50. After 20+ years staying at the Mirage, no smoking. Not sure how the comps would translate from GN to The Wynn, but The Mirage to The Wynn was not quite equitable but livable. We are early 60's also and The Wynn suits our needs.

Cosmo is great for smokers if you get a room with a balcony. I usually try to get a fountain facing wraparound suite when I stay. Only had 1 "issue" with noise and it was the next door neighbor bangin out his girlfriend on the adjacent balcony during the middle of the day.

Oops, I stand corrected. Last time we stayed at Wynn we asked for a non smoking room and the check in guy told us "all of our rooms are non-smoking".
