    Hi folks,

Looking to figure out how to get to and from downtown from the Venetian. I've read about a number of options, but I feel like a cab may be the easiest with the shortest wait and travel time, even if it costs a little more.

I understand there are "cab stations" or something outside the hotel where you can get one easily. But, after you're done downtown, where should you get one for the way back?

    Thanks :)

Honestly, Lyft or Uber would be the easiest, and the wait time for them compared to a taxi is minimal. Also, it'll probably cost half as much as a cab. Once downtown you can get Lyft/Uber from almost anywhere.

UBER / LYFT. when you get ready to leave downtown, just tell them to pick you up near the registration area at ANY of the downtown hotels. or as stated above, ANYWHERE.

Many of the downtown hotels have stations where cabs wait for customers. GN has one in the back area. The Cal usually has some cabs waiting outside near the intersection with Binions and the old LVC, but that's usually at night. The Plaza may have cabs waiting outside the main entrance.

Never done Uber because I am convinced I'll get the weird guy that wants to put me in a hole with lotion and a basket. :p

Appreciate the tips on the cab locations. :)

Cab drivers seem crazier than Uber. Seems you already had your mind set on cabs.
That's ok, Just know cabs cannot pick up on the street on LV Blvd. The hotels have taxi stands. They will be easy to find just ask inside the casino, strip and downtown.

"odds" of getting a shitty cab driver are much greater than getting a shitty Uber / Lyft driver. just sayin'

If I decide to brave the Uber or Lyft world, what are the rules? Can they pick you up anywhere or do you go to a designated area?

From any of the properties on and near the Strip there are designated PUDO (Pick Up Drop Off) areas at each property. The app will tell you where or you can ask hotel personnel.

The Venetian, for example, the pick up area is the valet level of the parking garage. Ride share can drop off at the main entrance of the Venetian as well as at the pick up area. They cannot pick up at the main entrance, so please don't ask them to do so.

Downtown they can pick up and drop off almost anywhere. There is a designated PUDO area on the back side of the Golden Nugget, that is the spot I recommend everyone use.

But just about anywhere downtown is good. Any of the main entrances of any of the hotels. Some suggested places to avoid a PUDO is near a bus pullout area, we are not allowed to use them for PUDO.

Also avoid having us PUDO where we would have to stop in the middle of traffic to do so. Especially where Main St, Casino Center Blvd, 4th St and Las Vegas Blvd intersect with Fremont St. It really causes problems when we stop in the flow of traffic at those intersections.

I seem to remember a free shuttle bus from Harrah's or Flamingo that will take you downtown. It's been a little over a year since I've been there though. I think it left every 1/2 hour? You could get it the same place where you get the shuttle to Rio.

no such shuttle. Sams town shuttle at Harrahs will take you to Samstown. Then you can catch a different shuttle to downtown from there.

If your party is one or two, consider buying a 24 hour bus pass for eight dollars. Most of the heavy bus traffic (riders) is south of Fashion Show Mall. Very few riders between Stratosphere and Downtown except for locals. Drop off is at Fremont by Walgreens, pickup is at Fremont between Binion's and Fremont Casino. For three or more persons go lyft or cab.

Ok thanks, I wasn't positive on that. I do remember seeing something about the shuttle to Sam's Town & the shuttle to downtown. I assume the shuttle from Sam's Town to downtown is free as well?

Party of two, but not sure I want to wait on a bus with room, or risk having to stand for the journey.

Thanks, appreciate the tips. I've seen you post a bit around here... maybe we'll get you as a driver if we use the service! :D Makes me less weary when I can tie it to a real person, as weird as that sounds.
Looks like you drive for both Uber and Lyft -- do you have a suggested preference?

Does one tip for using the Deuce, do you know?
