Usually find airfare cheaper later in the year, but wait too long and airfare goes through the roof. Large group to buy for (5). Right now looking at about $400 - $500 dollars a piece. I am about 2 hours from that mess in NYC would rather fly from my local airport in ALbany NY but that always comes with a premium, but so worth it when we arrive back in Albany late with only a 45 minute drive home.

I LOVE the early flights, 6 - 8 am, that is almost impossible flying out of NYC at that time without renting rooms the night before.

Doesn't Southwest still fly out of Albany?

It mostly depends when in January you will be travelling. If you are going to be in vegas the first week of January you should expect air fares to be high, mostly because of the new year and also because of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (125k+ people attending) that goes on the first week of the year. It also gets busy with high air prices the last week of January because of the football playoffs and gearing up for the super bowl.

If you are planning on travelling the first week of January don't expect air fares to drop very much, in fact before/by September the fares may be at its lowest and after that the prices start to creep up.

Never book or check flights on a Monday or a Friday... Prices are always the highest those days. Check back in on Tues or Wed and see if there are any price drops or sales.

It's Friday, it's probably pay day, so you're thinking about booking your future vacations.. Guess what? So does everyone else. It's so natural to talk about future vacation plans over the weekend with your friends or significant other and once you get back to work on Monday and check prices you realize that there are no sales. Airlines know this and post everything standard market rate on Fridays and Mondays.

Yeah Southwest still flies out of there.. And we are going out because of CES, but last year we got United for $308 RT which was a great price...
