SLS has been sold

well that didn't take long and expect them to go back to sahara name and the new players club
also new hosts and new players club is called club 52 now starting june 1st.
total relaunch and new way to earn comps.

I was sent a letter last week with details

 

Don't know anything about the new owners, but this could be interesting.

 

I recived a letter from the sls the other week telling me about the news and the new hosts and new players club

man did they fuck up this property from day one wurst casino oppennning and it only went down hill from there

 

I wonder if the SLS owner will be making a profit or a loss from the sale. But then the place wasn't somewhere where we frequented anyway. Too out in the boonies unless you car, uber or bus it.

Next one may just be the Lucky Dragon for the same reasons (plus they don't try to bring in the US crowd with American table games).

It's a nice hotel. Good restaurants and comfortable casino. Hopefully they actually care about taking care of gamblers instead of trying to lure the party people.

 

Stayed at the Grand Sierra last year, really enjoyed my time there. Hope it turns out well.

 

I noticed when I was in there today they were advertising "new players club players club coming soon"

 

The party people drop huge money in the right setting, it's a tough call

Exactly, the clubs are taking in huge revenue and bringing in the trend setters. I do both and I usually gamble where I party. Take Wynn for example, I would not step foot in that casino were it not for the club, and then I can easily drop as much money gambling that I do at the party.

 

I'm indifferent about this..
While we JUST picked up GSR in Reno (Highest tier card and good offers), when the Murelos took over GSR they really gutted all the good promotions/comps..hopefully SLS will perk up..I like it every time I go...but is always DEAD.

 

I actually stayed with them shortly after it opened. As someone on vacation, I was bored fast in the casino. It was small, the selection of machines was limited ETC.

It was obvious to me that they were catering to the club crowds, nothing wrong with that. But it kept gamblers away.

Their website boasts that they have 600 slot machines. My local casinos in Chicago have double that. And they need a better slot manager. I was just there a month ago to see if it got any better. They have rows of machines all with the same titles. They don't need 6 Buffalo Golds or 4 of the same WOF.

With just a handful of machines now, doubling up of the titles means there is even less choices. I walked in there, played one game and walked out 10 minutes later. It just didn't have anything to offer me. It was a ghost town in there. Circus Circus was hopping with activity.

You just dont put a club kid and foodie resort that far away from the action. A gambler will stay on an island, thats why the Gold Coast or Rio has people in them. But the cool kids want to walk the strip and live the Vegas high life. SLS could never offer them that.

 

If they do go back to the Sahara name, I think that would help greatly. I'd like a theme again in a clean space. Kill off a club, open that space up and add more gaming.

All of the rooms have been fixed, so a remodel of the main area cant be too bad. Depends on what they paid for the space.

Thanks for sharing the old Sahara pix! I cut my teeth their in the 90s and 2000s. I loved $1 BJ and Craps back then. It was an expensive way to learn my gambling lessons. It used to be packed back then. I hope they go back to the old name.

 

Pretty good I'd guess. No way a new owner would want to start pissing off players over a coupon.

 

I have no idea if this is true or not, could be just sour grapes or disgruntled ex-employee but we talked to an ex employee of the Grand Sierra and he was not at all complimentary about ownership.

We were in Reno at Harrah's last month talking to a bartender about changes in Reno, where I had stayed, room rates, the regular banter and he said he had worked at the Grand Sierra and it was miserable. Employee morale is awful, wages are lower than average, and opressive micromanagement.

He said he saw instances of employees quitting after one day or even mid shift on occasion. Like I said, no idea if it's bad to work there, but this guy was one unhappy ex employee and said no one liked working there. . Hopefully it was just his department or boss, employee attitude makes a huge difference in a stay for me.

 

But are the clubs bringing in huge revenue at SLS? I hadn't followed all the trials and tribulations but I didn't get the impression they had made enough of an impact on that scene, especially considering the background of previous ownership.
