Me and my wife are due to go to Las Vegas on Saturday but events over the last few days has put things in doubt. Firstly my Gran has been given end of life as the doctors can't do anymore for her. She's 97 and had a good life but her health has been deteriorating for the last couple of years. They said she would pass away over the weekend but the old gal is still with us although we know it's only a matter of time.

The other issue was my 18 year old son who is diabetic had a hypo while staying at his girlfriends last week. He is ok and rarely had them. My wife is worried about leaving him on his own for a week. My aunt was supposed to come and stay but she's waiting on what happens with my gran. I have a friend who is willing to keep an eye on my son and I have said I will give him a house key so he can get in just in case.

I will still be going as I know my Gran would want me still to go, I'm hoping my wife will come along as it's been a while since we last had a holiday with just us together. In fact the last time was her last Trip to Vegas which was 7 years ago.

So it's a bit of wait and see at the moment, just feels like it's going to be a long week.

I hope it works out, cause 7 years is way too long.

You have a long trip which takes time each way so it is understandable that the wife is concerned. Hopefully all will work out for you two as you really need some time away from reality. Best of luck mate!

That's a tough one - I feel for you. It's not like Vegas is around the corner and a short flight away.

Hoping for the best for the 2 of you.

Thanks for everyone's messages and good wishes. My Gran passed away this evening peacefully, this kind of makes it easier trip wise as my aunt can now come and stay. It's probably better that it's happened now and not while I'm away. Also having my wife with on the trip will make it a better trip rather than being a solo one. Once again thanks for your responses.

Getting away is great medicine at times like these. Think well of your grandmother, who certainly had her time here on the Big Blue Orb! And I really want to wish the best of luck to your son.

Stig, I am sorry for the loss of your Gran. She is at peace.

You and the wife, please go and enjoy your trip to Vegas - the rest and "away" factor will do you both good!

Even when you know it's coming, it still sometimes doesn't remove the pain of the death of your loved one. Much love and much hope to you and yours.
If you make the trip, it could prove to be therapeutic on the fronts you've mentioned.

Once again thanks for all your kind words. It is more clearer now and we know what we are doing. We will go and hopefully we can enjoy it especially as my wife has not been for 7 years.

Well just when I thought it couldn't get worse this week. I was told this morning that I have a blood clot in my leg so l won't be travelling to Vegas now. It's been a bad week and this now just tops it. So have to wait now till I get the all clear and make plans for a trip later in the summer.
