Haven't been in town since last Sept and just wondering what's new/changed around Wynn and Encore? Restaurants, pools, clubs, casino.... I know Steve doesn't let anything stay the same for too long. Last time we were there, they had pulled all of the red chandeliers out of the Encore casino and shipped them to Macau...did they ever replace them w/ anything? I never realized how much I like the red in there until some of it disappeared.

Funny....the first time I set foot in Encore I did not like all the red nor did I like the Bossa Nova version of G&R's Sweet Child of Mine playing in the casino.....now I love both. Speaking of that...anybody see or hear from Mike E anymore? We met one day at the Lobby bar just to chat and he had just woke up from one helluva night at XS....pretty cool dude.

Zoozacrackers has been closed, I believe to make room for a new and expanded Sports Book. Parasol UP and Down have both had a mild refresh. The red chandeliers have not been replaced, and I think they are on their way to the Boston Harbor resort.

Wow that's surprising....that place was always busy. I wonder what's being added to the SB? I think last time we were in, the chandeliers had been replaced by what looked like canned lighting....pretty unexciting for a Wynn resort. I asked my host about them and she actually called somebody and they told her they were on their way to Macau. Who knows for sure but maybe they got the new ones for Macau and now they're on to Boston Harbor and will end up back at Encore someday.

The makeshift sports book eats up a good chunk of the casino near the entrance to Surrender. It's also pretty low-rent looking, very un-Wynn-like IMO.

Popeye is now where the tulips used to be.

They've added a little "to-go" area outside of The Drugstore Cafe where you can get coffee and pastries in the am and gelato in the pm.

Hey Carve:wave: Popeye was actually there on our last trip....and I didn't even know they'd added a SB (although low rent-ish looking) to Encore. Is it on the side by the HL room (also low rent-ish IMO) or over towards the bar by Andrea's?

Basically right between those two areas. The nice thing about it is that it isn't too intrusive. You can walk right through it - you don't have to go around it like you do The Player's Club, or whatever that's called.

Speaking of the Players Club...does anybody ever go in there? It was dead on our last trip. I have to think that Steve is so focused on his new properties and the Wynn beach renovation that somebody else (w/ out the Midas Touch) is making these weird calls on all of these what I'd call funky changes.

I don't think I've ever seen it busy since it opened.

I have been there twice in the past week. Changes are discussed above: Red chandeliers are gone from Encore, I definitely miss them. The Players Club is a complete joke, lets be honest. The Sports Book at Wynn is sealed off as is the box office area right across from Allegro. The poker room at Wynn (also across from Allegro on the way to the self park which btw is still free as of 3/21/2017) is also sealed off. I agree with everyone who thinks that the temporary sports book is an eye sore and very un Wynn-like, but what else are they supposed to do?

On the strip sidewalk construction is ongoing for what I believe is more retail space.

The main check in area at Wynn has been moved. The original check in area has been turned into a lounge (the original check in desks are still there but the floor space has been filled with couches and make shift bars (think cash bars at any large convention) have been set up). Outside of the original reception area on the terrace that over looks the Lake of Dreams has been filled with tables and a small bar. The new reception area is immediately to the right as soon as you walk in from the main entrance and from what I was told this change happened sometime in early May.

There have been some changes to the Encore casino floor layout, mainly with table game placement near Sinatra and the Encore Tower Suites lobby.

Wow, I didn't know the whole Sports Book was closed. That definitely explains the impromptu SB over at Encore. The Wynn poker room closed off and the new poker room at Encore replacing Society Café was the situation when we were there last Sept. The whole Vegas "shopping" thing and all of the sq footage it consumes baffles me. In all of our trips staying at Wynn or Encore I rarely see anybody shopping in the stores that are there now....let alone buying, yet they're adding more. Sounds like the place is a little tore up in general. Hmmmm.......I've always wanted to try Aria....maybe it's time? My wife would probably be pissed...LOL She loves the Encore rooms, lobby bar and adult pool.

Makes me wonder how much Elaine Wynn's opinion factored into the decision making that went on and if someone is handling more of the day-to-day operations of the Wynn and Encore. Steve is probably more focused on his Wynn Palace and Wynn Boston Harbor properties at the moment, so I'm afraid he is comfortable right now with having the Wynn/Encore mimic what MGM Resorts is doing. I'll reserve judgement until I see the larger changes that Wynn has planned with the Wynn/Encore.

That's a good point....I didn't even think about Elaine Wynn being the missing link in trying to understand the "dumbing down" of Encore. If you read thru some older posts, there is a list of changes from the beginning that Mike E documented well and it's really changed from the resort that when opened, could have been a scene in a James Bond movie to something that's just "ok". Wynn's not known for being just "ok" but I think he's pre-occupied and you have to admit....getting older.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, Dino. You won't be hassled by the changes. They still handle that stuff better than anyone (by an order or two of magnitude!)

That said, after (what I thought was) a brief fling with Cosmo this past winter and then a return to Wynncore this spring (Wynn in March, Encore earlier this month), I'm not all that sure where my loyalty lies anymore.

The bloom is off the "Tulips"...sigh.

Carve....my Aria thought was short lived after looking thru some photos and reviews on Trip Advisor. Plus, who am I kidding....I'm a Wynn slut thru and thru...LOL I rarely go in the Sports Book so that being closed is not a big deal other than aesthetically changing the north wall of the Wynn casino. I'm just doing a little pre-trip whining but I do miss Society Café and all the chandeliers, curtains and cozy lamps on the gaming tables at Encore....it was such a classy casino when they first built it. I'm lost as to why they decided to make it so generic looking.

As a side note, we took a day trip to Cosmo when we were in town last Sept and have to say it did nothing for me or my wife. I thought the drive up entrance being in the garage was pretty lame and the whole place just felt like monochrome to me.....must be all the red in pleasure side of my brain from being at Wynn....LOL I think if I ever wandered from Wynncore, it would be Bellagio. I love that they've left that classic look in the casino there. Not too thrilled w/ the room and suite updates they did a few years ago but those may be changed again by now.

I like to quote a friend who made a comment about Aria and Wynn.

"Wynn looks like it was designed by a person with a vision. Aria looks it was designed by committee."

So true. Aria to me looks and feels like a cold, dark warehouse. I've eaten at Carbone and it was average at best.

On my two trips last year I moved away from the Wynn as it had been so long since we had stayed at the Bellagio and also I wanted to check out the Cosmo from the inside (ie as a guest). Liked the Cosmo, glad I'd tried it out but would not really be interested in staying there again to be honest. Thought food was good, casino is nice, clean etc - no major complaints. Chandelier bar is pretty cool, rooms were nice, but no "wow factor" for me. I really enjoyed going back to the Bellagio - it is a great iconix property but we (myself and Mrs M) both agreed that it was some way off the Wynncore when it came to service (including CW service), it was more peaceful, nicer restaurants, but more expensive. On my trip a couple of months ago, I stayed in Wynn for 2 nights at the end of my trip - same great service, agreee that Encore is probably not as nice aesthetically as it was with the red chandeliers but the changes were not terrible and it was quite interesting to notice what had changed. Definitely missed Zoozacrackers as I loked their NY Reuben. They also moved the Craps tables from on fron of the Elevators to the middle of the casino - I preferred the old location.

You still cant beat the Wynn (as I know you know!)

Didn't Wynn recently update their rooms or am I mistaken. We are thinking of staying at Wynn in September the last few times we stayed in Encore and wanted to try Wynn again.

I'm staying for the first time next month and would love advice on where to eat (going for 4 days / 3 nights). As well, should I opt for the Wynn room vs the Encore? The room is comped but the reservation line suggested that the Encore was better

Hard to go wrong, really. For steak, SW is about as good as it gets and Country Club is no slouch. I like Tableau for a nice lunch or breakfast, Terrace Point Cafe and Jardin are good for a casual breakfast. La Cave is a fun small plates place. Wazuzu is good for a casual bite and has great views for people watching. I'm not a huge buffet fan, but Wynn's is definitely a good one. Sinatra is good. But to be honest, if you're craving Italian, I'd recommend Allegro. I've been just as impressed with the food there as I have at Sinatra. And it's cheaper (it's still Wynncore, so "cheaper" is a very relative term!). Also, all the cafes and coffee shops have fantastic coffee.

Oh, and make sure to have a cocktail at Parasol Up or Parasol Down.

As far as Wynn v. Encore...six of one, half dozen the other. I prefer Wynn but still like to mix it up with an Encore stay every now and then. There have been a number of threads detailing the pros and cons of each, so you might want to do a search. It's really a matter of taste.
