Does ANY travel make you happy?

With all the Debbie Downer threads of late, how about some travel-is-fun cheer!?!

Hired a Villa last summer in Spain. 10 family members aged between 8 and 75 everyone had a great time.

Some nights we ate out and other nights we stayed at the Villa, had a BBQ and sat up late drinking and listening to music.

No crossed words/arguments just a great time had by all.

Such a chilled holiday.

 

I actually enjoy travel. I like visiting major cities for business. I allow more time than I think I'll need for just about everything. I HATE traveling with some of my business partners that try to shoehorn EVERYTHING into small windows of time. I enjoy building in a day or two without business in the cities I visit, so I can check the place out.

I've gotten into a routine with Southwest and boarding early makes things go a lot smoother. Yeah... there's delays and cancellations. When my flight is cancelled, I'm not one of those that stands in a long line of mad people trying to rebook. I jump in a cab or now an Uber and head back into town. I stay an extra night and set up my new plans from the comfort of a hotel room. Most people make travel stressful for themselves by poor planning, arriving later than they should... hence rushing... and just being assholes about everything. The one thing I'm in control of everyday is my own attitude and if I keep that cheerful and positive, travel seems to go well for the most part. Yeah, I have my moments sometimes, but I'm usually pretty able to catch myself and sit back and enjoy watching others make themselves miserable!

 

Happy and excited to be going to Maine in July for family reunion. Don't get to see brothers and sister very often anymore. Looking forward to lobster, clams, beer and long into the nite conversations around a fire. PS. 2 casinos in maine

 

I had a 24-hour travel day last week getting back from the east coast. Optimal? No. But it's TRAVEL. I was in a nice part of the world, I came back to a nice part of the world, I played golf, I sat on the tarmac for a good bit of time, one flight was quite jostled, I dealt with the usual Bozos of Travel here and there, I had to deal with LAX, I met some nice people, I ate good food, I had a 3-hour drive home from LAX at 11pm ... it is what it is and, well, I had fun. Was everything perfect? WTF is in any endeavor? Would I do it again? Of course.

And I'm looking forward to a similar routine in two weeks going to Alabama. I'm expecting hiccups, I know I'm going to have a blast. Beats doing the same shit day after day, the same travel routine, sitting at home with the tube on incessantly.

I'm going to be on the road for a month this summer. I'm going to traverse a lot of miles, hours and hours by myself at times, I'll certainly drop some coin ... and I can't wait. I get to traverse beautiful California; put in at Bend, Oregon, for a while; hit Portland and Seattle, Whistler and Victoria and the Olympic Peninsula. We'll ride bikes, play golf, eat and drink, laugh and play, see friends, make new friends.

I'm also going to Mexico. I'm not worried about banditos or dysentery. It will be fun.

My favorite travel is me and the mrs in the camry. It's just her and me. Picnic offerings along the way. That's what I like, as I think it's a supplement to the destination.
We've had some great week-long road trips over the years. Looking forward to more once she gets this whole 'job' thingy out of her system.

I wont do those anymore... about 6 months ago I had like a 20 hour day after spending a good portion of the day in a meeting in D.C. and then flying out of Reagan at like 6:30 p.m. I had a scheduled couple hour layover in Denver, which ended up being longer and I landed in Reno at like 1 a.m., which was 4 a.m. the time zone I left and had been at for several days. I drove up the hill to Incline with one eye open and the windows down... I was so tired. I made a promise to myself to stay another night and fly out in the morning on those cross-country deals.

 

Driving from Philly to Savannah, Hilton Head and Charleston soon. First road trip in the new Cherokee, but first I gotta get through D.C.....

 

As long as I'm not sitting at my desk at work, any travel makes me happy.

 

I did 22-25 business trips a year flying for many years and enjoyed that as I was in FC almost every time. Now my travel is pleasure and it is a hassle I so many ways. Still have plenty of air miles and credit card points for flights but fun flights are rare. Only junkets where all aboard are off to gamble are fun flying now.

I happily suffer from wanderlust. It was instilled in us 4 kids from our Mom. Growing up, always going on spring break and summer vacations.

My adult years, Vegas has been in my blood since 1997 and cruising since 1994.

While I have been plenty other places, the past 4 years I mix this yearly cocktail: Vegas, cruise, Vegas, cruise, Vegas.

 

Usual early September for the guys golf junket. GREAT weather. No crowds. Winner winner.

 

I love to travel. Flying sucks but it gets you there fast. I would only drive if I had a couple of weeks (at least) and could make a bunch of stops along the way. Right now I'm usually limited to 7-10 days at a time so I fly. I love going out west. Wyoming, Idaho, Utah are fantastic.

 

It was a 5a EDT Th rise in Shalotte, NC, and a 2a PDT Fri arrival home up coast. I had a bit of white line fever toward the end on PCH.

 

Recently had a great week in St. Simons Island, GA with the folks, sis, BIL and the cutest little half-Limey 2 year old you'll ever see. So relaxing hanging with the old man on the deck, watching the waves and drinking way too much. And seeing the little guy have so much fun was was such a joy. (The best was when a few horses came up the beach and he started "moo-ing" .)


That said, parking was free. There's no way I could have enjoyed myself had I been paying to park.
