Points for Strip Hotels

Just wondering if there is such a thing? I used points for our last vacation (not Vegas) and it worked out very well.

But I'm just wondering if there are any credit cards that would apply points to LV hotels that are on the strip? And I'm talking about hotels such as NYNY Bellagio and Mandalay Bay...

Think I have seen posts that there may be a cc associated with MLife....hope someone else can help there. I know there is a TR Visa that certainly helps us get comp $$ & hubby even got a VIP card. Keeps your points active even if you don't go to a casino every 6 month....

Hyatt has partnered with MGM in the past. I'm pretty sure it's still active. Members of the Hyatt rewards program were given mlife status based on Hyatt status, & I think the Hyatt credit card status you get by having the card = Pearl with mlife. Free parking! Depending on how soon you want to use points, getting a new card & waiting for points to accumulate might not be the quickest way to get to Vegas.

Keep in mind the Vegas specific CCs may be terrible deals relative to having more flexible points or cash back - do your homework.

The "earn" on these cards may be pretty bad.

 

Some chase cards will book hotels just about anywhere using points.

 

Yeah I have a Chase CC but seems most hotels associated are Hilton, Marriott etc...

 

Not sure where you were looking, but with the Saphire I can see all the MGM, CET hotels and and many more.

Transfering points only go to the big chains, but booking with Chase show just all of them. If you have the Chase Preferred, they book at a 1.5 to1. Meaning, for $100 in points, you can get a $150 room.

NYNY, Mandalay Bay and Bellagio are all MGM/MLife. There's an MLife credit card, and there's also the Chase Hyatt card (Hyatt/MGM hotels partnership).

Using Hyatt points or credit card reward nights (annual, not the sign-up bonus ones) is a mixed bag. On a busy weekend, you might luck out and get a $250-300 room for a good points deal, but Hyatt puts the Vegas casinos in higher categories than they belong IMO. MGM West Wing King and Monte Carlo are Category 4 on Hyatt. I've stayed in much nicer Hyatts (as far as the actual room) that are Category 3, just my personal experience.

If you were to get the Hyatt Credit Card, the 2 free nights on the sign-up bonus might be good at Bellagio, I'm not 100% sure though. The yearly free night that comes for retaining the card and paying the annual fee ($75) is only good at Cat 4 and below (MGM WWK, Monte Carlo, NYNY, Luxor, Excalibur as far as casinos go).

It's not a casino/strip hotel, but there's a Hyatt Place across the street from the Hard Rock that's a Category 2 I believe. I've used my Free Nights there on New Year's Eve and Memorial Day on rooms that were going for about $300.

 

I saw that about the Hyatt with the 2 night sign up bonus. That is one I have looked into but I have never had a CC with a yearly fee so that was something that was stopping me I guess. But $75 compared to other fees may not be so bad...

Hopefully, by same rate, you mean the rate is the same, but you paid less.

Sapphire Reserve does a 1.5:1. Meaning for a $300 room, you pay with 20,000 points and not 30,000.

 

Right. In the Chase portal, you have to be very careful to compare the price per night to the applicable pricing when booking direct. My experience is that many MGM hotels have inflated pricing there.

For one example, we were looking at an Aria Sky Suite again... booking direct (without any specific offers) was $325 a night vs. $370 night showing in Chase portal.

In my case for our Cosmo room, booking direct (without any specific offers) was $200 a night vs. $200/night showing in the portal.

 

I can say the Hyatt CC has been a pretty good ride. Charge $1000 in the first 3 months and you get 2 free nights at ANY Hyatt property in ANY category (which includes all the MGM related properties in Las Vegas). You just have to use them within a year.

$75 annual fee is well worth it. Used one free night in San Diego (room rate was $309) and one night at Delano.
You also get a free night in any category 1-4 property on each year anniversary. You can get Excal, Luxor and probably NYNY for category 1-4. Although there are much nicer 1-4 Hyatt hotels back here in the LA area.
Easy to rack up points on the CC. 1 point for every $1, 2 for dining anywhere and 3 for anything at Hyatt (or MGM). Also 5000 bonus points for adding an authorized user. Never actually used any of my points since card opening but I'm sitting on 30,000+ so I have some options. Plus they don't expire! ..man, I should be a salesman for the Hyatt CC!

 

You know, I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred that I carry for those charges that don't take American Express. But for maximum return, I put everything (every gallon of milk, every candy bar) on my Delta American Express Card. A 125,000 points buys me a $5000 business class ticket to Europe, which makes them worth about 4 cents per point. I just can't beat that. I have never used the miles domestically, but after paying $2000 each for tickets for my wife and me to Vegas last March, I might should have done the calculation then.
