I realize that this will not change some people's opinions of slot machines, especially the "Someone else got "my" jackpot" people, but here it is and I believe every one of these points has been brought up on the board at one time or another: https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/may/11/5-slot-myths-why-what-you-think-you-know-is-wrong/
“I guess the No. 1 myth is that slot machines keep track of wins and losses and will compensate to get to a win,” Olaf said. “But in the U.S., this is is illegal. Slots aren’t allowed to make adjustments. They cannot and do not. Each win is a separate event.” So the machine is never due to pay out.
I have been gambling for a loooooong time. None of that was news to me. People who don't play often may believe some of those, but I would imagine most people on this site are a little more savvy than that.
I thought the part about Celebrity Based slots was interesting. I had wondered if they had a tighter hold because of licensing. The article seems to confirm that it could be true.
I don't believe those articles by casino experts, industry insiders etc. They already robbed our bankroll, now they even want to rob our beliefs, no way!
I'm pretty sure that most people believed that this was the way things worked, nice to see the article reinforcing it.
So can I assume when Granny rubs the screen, after hitting spin, that will increase the likelihood of the bonus symbol popping up?
Yes, they have extra fees to pay for those. Mlife actually gives you less points for many of those, supposedly because of that. So, taking this to the next level. Casino lowers payout on certain machines by 2% to account for license deals. Some accountant gets smart and says "Let's be fair to all gamblers and lower ALL machines by another 2% increasing our income"
For sure! As for the unbelievers, bad karma follows. And don't even ask what fate befalls the slappers, punchers, knockers, and shakers....it's all about showing some love and being one with the machine. Take it from someone who knows, GeoGRAN
Great link DaiLun, thanks! The only one I don't quite agree with is players not being able to discern a tighter or looser machine. All machines can pay, or not pay, and timing is everything. BUT for campers, who hit the same casinos over and over, who gravitate to the same machines in that same casino, I definitely think players can get a feel for "duds." While we can't say which machines are "looser" (you could have hit it on a good day), repeat players can DEFINITELY get a feel for which machines to avoid. I know that there are definitely machines, trip after trip, I give another chance time after time, but find a specific machine is consistently tighter. Case in point, Aria has a bank of Quick Hit machines. On one side, it's the red ones, "free game fever" with reds and 7's. The other side? Quick hit Fever with bars versus 7's, and purple versus red, but the same game. The reds I'll hit. The bar/purple side? It's consistently tighter for me--day after day, trip after trip. And interestingly? It always has about HALF the foot traffic as the reds on the other side, even though they're the same bank, and in a neutral setting. (E.G. one side isn't public facing and the other facing a wall.) Despite spending hours and hours and days and days on multiple trips, the purple side doesn't hit as much. Again, a "loose" machine can take your money, and a "tight" machine can pay off...it's timing (and each spin is independent from another)... but, for me personally, there are certain machines that I feel are a little tighter and I tend to avoid. I'll never bank on a "loose" machine, as timing can make even a cruddy machine great. But for me, if I consistently find a machine is tight trip after trip, I'm going to avoid it....especially when I see others are avoiding it too---no matter what the authorities say
There are those who feel the 3K they put into the machine is theirs and they want it back. How do you explain that it's no longer their money when they refuse to see it any other way? If you can convince them, I'll give you my BIL's number. He needs convincing.
Back in the early 2000, Stratosphere used to have nickel Blazing Sevens. Remember when they had the Tower nickels and quarters? Anyhow, the Blazing Sevens were as hot as the name. They were coin droppers. People would hoard the machines (chairs propped up against the machine and empty coin buckets turned upside down over them) to save them. I hit 3 blazing sevens once and numerous red sevens mixed with blazing sevens. Lots of fun and dirty fingers from handling the coins.
@multifarious - I classify as High(er) Volatility and Low(er) Volatility, and play accordingly. I consider Quick Hit to be relatively medium volatility but realize that they, like another slot machine, can be "streaky". Personally, I "quit" playing them after I hit my $12,000 jackpot, figuring "I got all that I can get outta those machines".
Thought of this article yesterday while talking to a woman at the pool who told me her husband counts and knows when a machine is going to hit, but then she said he didn't win this trip and is done with Vegas.
