Table Games Is Let It Ride Fun?

I learned about LIR from this forum. Never heard of it, never noticed it but then never looked for it. I looked at a few things on youtube and it seemed like a fairly simple game. For those who play, is it a game that you would consider fun and social?

I used to gamble because it was fun and I would occasionally come home with more than I left with. Well, that hasn't happened in YEARS so now I just do it for fun.

I play slots because I can bet as fast or slow as I wish and can sometimes make back a loss in a matter of seconds.

I play blackjack because the strategy is now second nature so I enjoy the banter with the other players and dealers. That is my social game.

I shoot craps because of the excitement and the camaraderie.

I've stayed away from the other games because I was too old and lazy to learn. When I saw LIR it seemed an easy strategy, since I'm used to VP and understand the ranking. Odds on BJ under big buck hands suck so as long as I'm going to lose maybe I should try something new. But, I like to have fun while I watch my money disappear.

Your thoughts on the game?

I first stumbled across Let It Ride a number of years ago.

Since then I preferred to play 3 Card poker (without playing the side bets).

If you bounce between Let It Ride and 3 Card Poker, make sure you know which game you are playing, as they are each a version of poker...but they winning hands and strategy between the 2 of them are different.

I'd say that both those games are social, with your friends...but strangers may not want you to chat them up (depends on the people).

A word of note, these are both volatile games. Even when playing a $5 game (which in Let It Ride starts you with a total bet of $15, $100 can be lost in a hurry if you don't hit hands.)

 

I've played it a few times with varying success. My and my partner hit a Royal at Ballys several years ago..before the bonus was
even available. $15,000 in chips... no w2g....

most fun we had playing was at Harrahs....the dealer would look at our cards and tell us if we should stay pat or pull back...

 

Unless the law changed from then, he SHOULD have got a W2G when he hit a Royal. Any win $600 or more that is at 300 to 1 or greater odds is supposed to get a W2G.

As for the game, meh. I've heard jokes that dealers call it "Let it Die". I would consider Ultimate Texas Hold'em instead.

 

I really like the game.
mostly because you can play for fairly cheap (each hand costing $6 when you pull everything back and just play the final spot and the $1 bet).
I like that I know when I have won.
Nothing more annoying then having a great hand but when the dealer flips up his cards your great hand turned into a looser. (I have lost on more then a few occasions with a full house on playing Caribbean stud)


I find most people playing it are very talkative and social..
Hands are much slower then Blackjack but it is not uncommon to go 6-8 hands without a win. so it all balances out and my money seems to last about the same time frame as playing Blackjack.

 

Like this game quite a bit as you are not playing against the casino and dealer directly. Most times I have played the other players are all social and accepting. No abusive types have made themselves known. They root for you almost as much as for themselves. I do play all the bonus bets which has paid off well.(I tend to get straight flushes more often than the odds would dictate.) Hoping some day for 4 of a kind or that elusive royal. I usually play at the $10 level.

 

It's got sucker odds but I'll still play it when the mood hits me. It's fun.

 

A buddy and I played it for an hour on evening several years ago. We haven't played it since. It just wasn't that much fun. The strategy is pretty basic, so it doesn't really compare to BJ in that sense. And it doesn't have the excitement of craps or roulette. Frankly, it was only exciting when someone got a full house or more (which was infrequent the time we played).

 

I taught my wife the strategy so we could play together. Very simple, very social, absolutely no way your actions could affect another player. Seems to be falling out of fashion. If you don't play the side bets the house edge is not huge, so I guess they'd rather people just go play slots.

 

I like it. It's the game my wife and I play when we don't want to play blackjack--the strategy is very easy, the house edge is low, and you have the (small) possibility of a nice little win. It has replaced three-card poker as our non-blackjack game--too many sessions of three card have been quick wipeouts of the buy-in.

As others have said, LIR is a very social game (assuming the people at the table are social). We don't play the side bets, so every 5-10 sessions or so one of us will be dealt a three-card straight flush (=$200 "jackpot") and everyone will say "you should have played the bonus!" That's about the only downside, in my opinion. We're regulars at the $5 tables at Bally's and Planet Hollywood when we're in town.

 

The best part of all the carny games is that they offer variety, While BJ and VP may offer better odds of losing less money, learning something new is always fun. Plus beginners luck says you will hit something big the first time you play (to suck you in). Just make sure your bankroll can tolerate it.

Thank you all. I will scope out the tables and probably give it a try if I find one that isn't occupied with Zombies. Might be a nice diversion other than games I know so well. Since I am so familiar with the other games I play, I won't have the tendency to beat myself up if I make a bonehead move.

 

I like playing Let it Ride. Positives are the jackpot like payout possibilities and not playing against the dealer. I will say, I find myself playing it less and less. Very volatile game, not uncommon to lose 8-10 hands in a row.

 

IMHO, like any gambling game, it's fun if you win, and it sucks if you lose.

 

I like it if there are several friends at the table. Not much better than a no brainer hand in let it ride after a few drinks with some friends in Vegas.

Interesting. I have never seen a LIR table with the 6 card bonus. CET property? I haven't been in a CET property in 7 or 8 years.

I have seen the 6 card bonus on 3CP at non CET properties.

 

Like most games, it's fun if you are winning!

 

A full house or better in 5 card stud is (3744 + 624 + 36 + 4) / 2,598,960 = 1 in 589.6. So each player should only get one about every 15 hours or so assuming 40 hands an hour.
