Thanks for the report and for your observations. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in now. Vegas has realized that gambling is not the biggest money maker anymore. Just concentrate on the young folks. Just keep adding more nightclubs, charge outrageous prices for alcoholic drinks and the younger generation will spend the money. It's not only in Vegas. It's all over the place, especially in the big cities. I live in NYC, so we are used to that sort of thing. Walking on the Vegas Strip and being hounded by people feels like I am home. I am just trained how to avoid them, and I don't let them affect me.

I feally enjoyed your report and thoughts on the "new Vegas". Very well written. There have been times I've felt unsafe. Many of the homeless on the pedestrian bridges are clearly mentally unsound. I had Security walk me from MGM to Tropicana one night when I was solo as when I'd gone over, one of the homeless people was yelling out obscenities at everyone passing. Many hours later in the dark, I didn't feel like taking the chance alone. The last time I went downtown, I sat at a stool at a slot machine to play, hoped the puddle I sat in was a spilled drink, quickly realized it wasn't and was in a cab ( I sat on a plastic bag) back to the strip to shower and throw out my clothes. Disgusting!

I don't care what fuvking color you are; you try this with me you're going to end up in a body bag.

Great trip report. I could have written it but for the fact I don't play slots or go to shows while in Vegas.
Sports gambling, video poker and craps take all my time while in town.
And with the proliferation of casinos in Iowa where I live I can get my fix and only have to deal with smoke and not all the rest of the crap that Las Vegas offers these days.
I can bet sports with a local and online, but if you have ever been in a sports book for the first weekend of the NCAA basketball tourney or the super bowl you know how fun that is-- it's just not as big a thrill to lose a couple of dimes over a long weekend of betting football while in your man cave at home as it is to do so in Las Vegas.
If they ever legalize sports betting my trips to Vegas will come to an end.

Wherever laws permit open containers/drinking in public areas, the problems exist as have been discussed here. New Orleans is a great example of this. Certain areas/districts in other cities experience similar issues. Beale Street in downtown Memphis is one of these examples where you can enjoy your beverage between bars for the three blocks and younger people (of drinking age mostly) dominate the scene. The police have to have tolerance in these areas since there is a fine line between having fun and being becoming a social disturbance. The "street performers" also walk the fine line with their crowd interactions which can ramp up to outright nuisance status pretty easily and quickly. Vegas has all of the classic nicknames: Sin City, Adult Playground, etc. It doesn't need to get a reputation as unsafe however.

Good trip report, and have to agree with you that some of the old ways are gone. I have also noticed the numbers of agreesive beggars or sellers, are much more aggressive to take a no for an answer and rudely keep insisting. Hope you still had some fun!

If it is the same guy I dealt with two years ago he followed my friend and I through NY NY into MGM. He was smart enough to back off as we went into MGM because we were going right toward the security desk. According to Yelp reviews hes been arrested quite a few times, seems they need to do something more serious.
The police really need to enforce the laws on the bridges. Last two trips I have been on the bridges were empty, lets see how this weekends trip goes . . .
Good report from a fellow Pittsburgher, staying at NYNY for the first time this weekend in a Spa Suite.

Great TR! Especially liked all the non-gambling stuff. Agree with most everything you said. Spending 10 days in Vegas for my wedding trip next month. Bride to be is from overseas. Staying downtown the last 4 nights. Hoping she's not sick of everything before we even reach Golden Nugget

Yes!!!!! No casino etiquette is what I observed on my recent Vegas trip. I tried to sit in on a roulette table and noticed a woman 'sitting' next to her man while he played, WTH?! The dealer & pit boss were allow that? I wonder for how long, until I finally did sheesh! After a little more prodding politely, she finally gave me her seat so I can play. Good thing and just in time because my numbers were hitting lol!!!

Great TR by the way, and I love your writing style.

    Love this quote!

"So I'm sitting on our flight home feeling like 10 pounds of poop in a five pound bag because the guy in front of me had to lean back, getting ready to get back to reality where hundred dollar bills aren't leaves on trees and bottle of water aren't $4.50. I am always ready to come home after 4 days of Las Vegas, but I am always a little sad. Life is but a crap check, you hedge your bet to protect your investment, and once the dice leave a hand there is nothing you can do but watch and realize you have little control on what happens next."

    This is me for sure!

We are going soon and I'm also in 'hurry up and wait' mode. But I agree with you about a lot of things.

We have also been going for many years now, starting in my early 20's (got married there) to now in our 40's and yes, things have changed. BUT I think some things have changed for the better, and if you don't change with it, you won't enjoy yourself anymore. We went from not being pool party people to now (at our age going (and doing it right)) and enjoying it tremendously! We try a show or concert here and there now. We don't gamble nearly as much as we used to. We try different restaurants. I think you have to evolve in Las Vegas...and the other thing is, have a group of people you really enjoy being with! That makes a huge difference!! We have had some crappy trips going with people who caused problems or drama, etc..

Anyway enjoyed the trip report! Thanks!

I enjoyed your report. I agree with a lot of what you said. A very well written report, especially coming
    from a Steelers fan!

Just kidding, I respect and envy the Black and Gold ( or is it yellow? ) being a Browns fan! LOL

For quite a bit of this report I thought you must have been with us on our trip a couple of weeks ago. As far as people saying that we should evolve with the changes I completely disagree. I don't think we need to "evolve" with all of the open use of marijuana on the strip, the overly aggressive panhandlers, the crappy music doofus trying to hawk his version of "music", the idiots peddling the reverse-the-aging-process lotion, etc. I fully realize Vegas is a colorful town, but when we go I really want to just feel safe and not feel like most encounters are confrontations.

Now, get the f**k off my lawn!!!

Awesome trip report...As for Freemont Street, I feel the exact same way, and hate when my wife wants to go there...I dont encounter too many of the street people since i rent a car , but with parking prices climbing out of control, I might be back in the mix ...
