I'm collecting Vegas trivia questions and fun facts for an upcoming trip with a group of friends. Figured y'all might have some great knowledge of Sin City and know cool things that aren't commonly known.

Here's a few examples from my list:

Vegas eats more shrimp each day than the rest of the nation combined.

The computer/printer company HP survived early financial trouble through a hot streak at a blackjack table.

While Vegas is known for it's smaller replicas of famous monuments, the Luxor Sphinx is actually larger than the original.

    My questions are things like:

Which casino is featured in the Bond film Diamonds are Forever?

Name the 5 hotels knocked off in the original Ocean's 11.

Which was the most expensive property to build in Las Vegas?

Alright, lay it on me! I love learning new Vegas facts! (as needed, feel free to add caveats such as, "unconfirmed but I heard...")

Somebody once told me that Nevada State Prison even has a casino & a sportsbook. I thought that was pretty funny, but he could have been pulling my leg.

    1. Jill St. John plays an arcade game at Circus-Circus... "the Whyte House" is actually the 'International (which became the Las Vegas Hilton...then LVH...now Westgate). Connery & Jill run from the cops in their Mustang all through downtown, with multiple casino fronts featured.
    2. Sahara-Sands-Riviera-Desert Inn-Flamingo
    3. Echelon Place :D ... seriously, though, I think it's Bellagio.

What is the name of the final proposed project from the builder of Caesar's Palace and Circus Circus (Jay Sarno), which was cancelled upon his death?

What was the first modern mega-resort built on the strip? Who built it?

...here are ten that will test your friends:
    1. Ben "Bugsy" Seigel's first hotel/casino that is still in operation today? (They will guess Flamingo, but the answer is the El Cortez)
    2. In the film "The Godfather", Michael meets Moe Greene in what Las Vegas hotel? (Desert Inn).
    3. What was the name of the hotel/casino that is now Harrah's? (The Holiday)
    4. Before 'the D', that property was called 'Fitzgerald's'...what was it before then? (The Sundance)
    5. In the film 'Back to the Future Part 2', "Biff's Casino" uses the Plaza as it's front. In real life, what (recently closed) casino actually called itself "Biff's"? (The Las Vegas Club)
    6. Hoover dam was originally called what? (Boulder Dam).
    7. The MGM Grand used to exist in a different location...what property did that become? (Bally's). Why did MGM move to where they are? (fatal fire).
    8. What hotel/casino existed where Bellagio now stands? (Dunes)
    9. Besides Wynn & Encore, what Las Vegas properties has Steve Wynn owned/managed? (Bellagio, Mirage, Treasure Island, Golden Nugget).
    10. Comped cigarettes used to be available to blackjack players in three ways. What were they? (Pack provided by the pit; cigarette token provided by the pit to give to the cigarette girl; small tray on each table with individual cigarettes in it.)

Don't know anything about HP, but I do remember that the only reason FEDX survived was because the owner took what cash he had left (which was supposed to be used to cover the "final" payroll for his employees), went to Vegas & made enough to keep the company afloat.
    Great story!

How about "which hotel has easiest/shortest walk to access strip? The Mirage - has one corridor where BLT burger is and right outside door you are ON STRIP!! Best location.

Las Vegas translates to "The Meadows", no?

    So Nevada?

EDIT: just remembered- Downtown, near the Plaza or near the Mormon Fort.

I agree mirage is close to strip but I believe across the street is closer. Casino Royale, Harrahs, Flamingo. These casinos you literally walk out door and you are on strip. No walkway like mirage.
