My wife and I just returned from a 4 night stay in Vegas and I thought I would share our comp drink experience playing video poker. I realized this is just what happened to us so things could be drastically different for you.

We play quarters and always at max bet of $1.25 per hand. When playing at the Cosmo, in the past we would get a drink ticket when we hit 20 session points. Now, we tend to play slower than most people as we take turns playing. But this time, after 30 minutes of play, we had 10 session points or less. I don't know if they changed the coin in amount for sessions points or if we were playing really slowly, but it felt like the same pace we have used for years. This trip we never got close to earning a drink ticket. A bartender at the Cosmo Sportsbook said that it can take up to 25 sessions points before a drink ticket comes out.

He described the change in a way that really worked for me. He said that up until a few years ago, a person could drink aggressively and play recreationally and have a good time at the bar. Now, he said that you must play aggressively and drink recreationally.

I think that if we ever want a second comped drink at the Cosmo we will need to up our bets to at least 50 cents per credit or else stop talking turns and really hit those buttons much faster.

Over the Cromwell, a bartender explained their light system and she said that it requires $4.00 per minute coin in for the light to turn and stay green. That sounds reasonable, even with us taking turns I think we are both doing more than 4 hands per minute.

This may not be front page news but I hope it might be helpful

If you're at a 1x point multiplier, 1 point is $6.00 coin in on VP, according to the website. So if you had 10 points, that'd be $60 coin in. $2/min, or 48 hands in 30 mins.

48 hands in 30 minutes is super slow I would say.
I play like 480 hands in 30 minutes, just a comparison.
I you have only 10 session points or even less, the machine most likely would reset,

    2 things

    1) This is exactly why I like places like Southpoint

    2) if you were sitting next to me and playing 48 hands in thirty minutes I would slap you to see if you were actually awake

That sucks to hear about cosmo.

The CET requirement is less than I heard previously. I thought it was $6/min.

With cosmo that's a possibility. If you delay too long, clock starts over I think.

Last I played at the Rio center bar I could never get a time/$ frame from the bartenders as to when the new lights installed would turn green. They did not seem to care for it though and I was bouncing around machines but they kept me with a full beer when needed. If I wasn't tipping who knows..
Just hope they don't start this shit at the sportsbook bar (Where I will slow play sometimes due to watching a game on tv or bouncing machines all around the bar as I have done if they are all quiet.)

I played at Chandelier Bar at Cosmo last month, 25 cent VP at what I would call an average pace, maybe 6-8 hands per minute. Check the time stamps. IMG_1478.JPG
At CET properties, bar tops comp all your drinks if you are Diamond and playing, regardless of what the light says. And since I am usually playing, drinking, and tipping more aggressively than others, many places will also comp my wife's drinks if she is sitting next to me and playing only one hand per minute, thus never getting the light to turn green. It just goes to show that with some of the experienced bartenders, if you take care of them, they will take care of you.

I would concur with the times at Cosmo. It seemed like it was a time based system. I was playing anywhere from quarter to $5 VP and they didn't print out any faster when I was at the $5 level.

You should see the Light System at WESTGATE thee worst ever. MAX coins on every bar top machine on every game that is on the machine. Anything less than MAX coins gets you nothing no bottled water, no soft drink, no coffee,no beers, no mixed drinks.

from gambling's point of view, you usually should not bet anything other than MAX coins on VP anyway.

There are a lot of other games on that bar top machine besides V poker. You would have to play Max coins on those games too. Thats one way how to become poor with Max coins bets.

Poor is hitting a royal flush without max bet. I'll never make that mistake. If I can't afford it I'll find something else

Are the "light systems " only on the bar top vp machines or all of the vp machines now?

Imho if you want to drink, go to a BAR..if you want to gamble and get better drink service, a bar top is for you...
If you're playing 1 hand a minute at a bar top...move along to a bar WITHOUT machines and let someone who really wishes to gamble have that spot.

Soon enough it will be no more comped drinks anywhere - they will all be like the Hard Rock here in Tampa. Pay full price for booze at the bartops, pay for booze on the floor, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay,....aaaaaaaaaaand pay some more please. Oh, you've dropped $10k in the slots today? Oh look, you have enough comp dollars for a draft beer! YAAAAY!!!:grrr:
