Syringe disposal at Strip properties

So I've recently begun taking an injectable medication for diabetes and use the small pen needles. Being a nurse, I know the dangers of improper disposal, so I was curious if there were sharps containers available at the various strip casinos.

If not, it's no big deal as I usually bring the needles back home to dispose of them in my sharps container.

 

I'm sure they would accommodate you if you asked. The last thing the hotels want is used syringes around..Imagine the Trip Advisor reviews ...Or, get in touch with a host, and go that route.

 

Just about every public restroom has that red box in it for syringes. worst case you can take them there.

 

I am type 2 diabetic and I am fortunate that I don't need to worry about insulin (yet) but I do test myself infrequently, but I check myself regularly when I'm on vacation and not doing normal things. As a result I only have to worry about my lancets. If I see a sharps container and it's conveniently located, I'll make it a point to dispose of them there, otherwise I just keep them in a bag, or in my kit, and dispose of them when I return home.

 

This is probably your best bet.

You could also call/email the casino where you are going to be staying and ask if the public restrooms have a sharps container in them.

I thought I had seen some in a hotel somewhere, but I couldn't remember if it was in Vegas or the little casino I visit close to home. I travel pretty frequently, but mostly via car, and I usually just drop the used pen needles in a ziplock, but I have to use the original cap to cover the exposed end and it doesn't always stay on, so I always worry about getting stuck. Unlike typical insulin syringes, the pen needles have two needles - an injection side with a longer needle as well as a shorter needle that punctures the pen when it's screwed on. I didn't really want to run the risk of being accosted in the airports if I could avoid it.

Ha. I've come across a few comments about used syringes lying about when trying to search this subject through Goggle.

Ask the front desk upon checkin. They can usually arrange housekeeping to send up a sharps container for the room. Just leave it there upon checkout. No need to lug them down to a public washroom.

I am a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic and have not really thought about sharps containers until 2 weeks ago while staying in a northern community where drug use is prominent. Signs everywhere including the front desk, elevators and even in the room asking guests to use sharps containers. They had them available at the front desk.

 

I will also say most restrooms have sharps containers. As a type one diabetic. I look for those things.
