Just came back from 2 days downtown, stayed at the Golden Nugget everything at the Nugget was good, service, clean room, food, no complaints, however we did not see 1 jackpot, hand pay or even a group of people around a machine making noise, don't get me wrong about not winning (didn't lose too much) but at least you should see some other people win. And the dollars machine were the tightest in the house, pennies paid better I had to go to 4 different casinos downtown until I could find a $10 black jack table that pays 3-2 (Fremont) and that was Wednesday and Thursday early evening. Hmmmmm winds of change are blowing.

It could be said that you were in the wrong place. It has long been discussed on this board that the Golden Nugget is the most Strip-like of the downtown casinos. Therefore, tight machines, bad VP paytables, and 6:5 blackjack isn't a surprise.

Most every other casino (other than maybe Binions) is a better gaming option than the Golden Nugget.

I like the place overall but the beauty of downtown is there are so many options right there to gamble. All better than the GN

Yeah, in terms of VP, Golden Nugget's is probably the worst, among all casinos Downtown and Strip.
That is equivalent to say it is the worst in Vegas because the off-Strip casinos (except a few sh**t holes)
generally have better paytables than the Strip.
I never play the machines at GN.

$10 3/2 BJ can be found easily at the boyd places(MSS/cal/fremont), the GG, el-cortez, downtown grand and perhaps the plaza, the nugget is the nicest place downtown and also has the worst gambling conditions.

wise choice would be to stay at the golden nugget with its nice amenities and play at other casinos within walking distance

I am there now & saw 3 hand pays yesterday. I have held my own so far but walk to MSS if I want VP. I tend to play a few older penny machines here & usually do ok

I thought the Nugget had 3:2 $10 blackjack. No?

Stay at the GN for food, pools, bars, entertainment, better/newer rooms - gambling there is terrible. You are literally surrounded by better gaming conditions than where you are.

When I was there last December, you could find this on weekdays, but at night and on weekends the 3:2 tables went to $25 minimum. IIRC....

Now with Vegas's peak season coming, don't expect $10 3:2 BJ, even on weekdays.

...about a year ago (or so), they did have a very good $15 6 or 8 deck shoe... 3:2, DAS, LS...cannot recall if it was S17, but even at H17, that's not a bad table.
But, that said, I agree with others here... great hotel & amenities... better gambling everywhere else... Pensacola Mike is the VMB expert on that strategy...always stays there - rarely plays there.

I also stopped playing at the GN long ago. Machines tight and at the tables the dealers seem to have a holier than thou attitude, like they are more special than the other casinos downtown. Enough so that their table minimums are the highest downtown.

As others have mentioned, stay at the GN because the rooms are some of the nicest downtown but play elsewhere because the gaming is better just about everywhere else downtown.

With the Downtown Grand in business, there is no reason to even step foot in the Nugget anymore.

Was wondering the same. I've also seen $5 DD 3:2 tables at all times in Fremont/Cal/MSS. Both GG and Plaza have also always had $5 3:2 shoe games. Please tell me that hasn't changed!

no jackpot hand pays? that sounds like all of the strip and downtown to me. I see a few here and there downtown, but not much. I see them frequently at my local casino, and they use the same $1200 threshold. I have been going to vegas for 20 years, more than 50 trips, and I have never had a hand pay in vegas.
the hand pays that I can recall seeing downtown were at the Fremont, on the old school $5 machines.
