    I tip for "superstition". It's called "paying the luck forward . . . . . ".

Tipping a $100 on a $1400 handpay is insane, $40 or even 20 would have been plenty, when you tip like that they know you're either an idiot or a first timer, and they dont really respect either.I'm not trying to insult you, but live and learn.

Kudos to you on a kindness/generosity. There are enough "less nice/gracious" guests in Vegas (and the worst is inconsiderate AND entitled). When someone is more generous, it's a plus for ALL of us who visit Vegas, as it lets the staff know that they'll meet some guests that are a handful/rude, but let's them see that there are also generous people, kudos.

I personally cap at $20 for the (very) few handpays I've gotten (all 2k or under), but whether you're tipping more or less, I personally think it's fine (and good) to tip one person more than divvy it up, especially when one is in a suit (possibly higher paid/more senior). If one is NOT higher paid, they'll figure it out on how to divvy it. (And I'm also in the "tip if you want, or don't if you don't want to" camp on handpays.)

Just enjoy then win and kudos on caring enough to still be thinking of it later!

Ps love that you tipped your waitress some of the win. On handpays I actually like rewarding the people who have taken care of me all night, versus someone who just pops in for the handpay!

Getting a handpay often does not mean the player is in the "plus". I have gotten handpays when I was already down way more than the actual handpay. That employee was not around helping me out with my losses.

Many folks often put the total handpay right back in the machine(s). Does the slot attendant help with that?

With that said, I usually give the slot attendant $10-$20. Maybe nothing if I had to wait a long time.

Even though it doesn't sound very kind, it's absolutely true!
If you tipped them $20 for such handpay, they more likely think you are generous.

I hit a RF on the last trip at the Boars Head bar at MSS for 1037.50 (older machines). Gave the lady paying the 17.50 and the bartender a 20. It came out just right. The lady paying was also the one servicing the scratch-offs and she got the 2$ from the scratch off as well. It's all karma for me, not necessarily the amount. No suits were involved other than clubs.

Does it change your thought if you're LOSING when you hit a handpay? Say you're down $3,000 and then hit a $1,250 jackpot......

I've never had a hand pay but I believe that regardless of the amount, I would tip 20 to 40 dollars. I mean, seriously, it's doesn't take much to verify, get the money and pay it out. Sorry, slot attendant, it's just the way I see it.

No, I wouldn't tip the suit.

CW? Maybe a ten. Maybe not. My experience when I play machines is that the CW hardly comes around and when they do, they're not that friendly. Funny thing: I'm mostly a craps player and for some reason when playing craps they come around more frequently and are more friendly.

I like playing craps because it's a table game and wins exceeding $1200 do not require paperwork. As I mentioned earlier I never got a hand pay playing machines but there were times I'd hit many many "mini-jackpots" under $1200 and I think that's more fun!!

As to the Cocktail Waitress when you hit a handpay...

You would think they would be right on top of things and get you drinks and keep them coming since there is a decent chance of some nice cash vs the usual $1. Sadly, I find that rarely happens. I do remember in one of my first hand pays years ago - the CW showed up right away. She got $20 from me as I was so freakin excited. I did not tip the slot person then - did not even think about it - though I should have done $10-$20.

$20 would be the maximum tip, unless I hit a life changing jackpot. They do the same amount of work whether you win $2000 or 50000.

    That's just my opinion.

I usually tip $20-40 depending on size of the handpay. Since most are like 1200-2500 range playing $1-5 slots, that seems adequate. Once I hit for $6800 but had put 2k into the machine. I gave the guy $40 and he didn't look happy. I felt like I wished I never gave it to him at all. Seriously we are playing a game with odds stacked against us, when we finally win they are bringing a bundle of cash over and to look pissy at me was a slap in the face I felt. , I thought $40 was nice for 10 mins of work. Also once I hit for $5000 on baccarat the dealer literally said I should share the wealth lol. where were you when I lost 5k last week?????

I did $20 earlier this month on a $2000 hand pay. I handed it to the one person & they actually handed it to the other. Received a nice thank you.

At local tribal tips are shared among those who are supposed to receive them. I asked once if I needed to break down the tip & was told it all went into the same pool. I commented to one at home on a hand pay that I had lost so much I didn't dare tip more. She told me to never worry about it as very few tip on hand pats in our casino & they appreciate any they receive.

The guy in the suit you don't tip - he was only there to witness the hand pay. Its likely the slot attendant couldn't find another to come witness the handpay so she grabbed somebody from the cage or a pitboss to come over and witness.

Ugh, I don't know about all of you, but my lifetime winnings is actually solidly negative. So until my lifetime winnings actually goes positive (probably won't ever) I won't be tipping anything other than an occasional buck or two. I cannot imagine tipping $100; even a $1400 jackpot wouldn't even begin to bring me into the positive zone. :-/

On my last trip I hit a hardway at the craps table. Nothing huge, around $500. The stickman asked me "shall we 2-way that bet?" For those not in the know, it means half the win bet for the dealers and the other half for me. I stared at him in shock, then he burst out laughing saying he was just joking and playing around. I believed him since he's a fun and great dealer I've played with for many years.

Now getting back to the people you've dealt with...that's a different story. These employees should not be working in the casino.

I'd have tipped $0 to person doing the handpay. You're providing free advertising for the casino during the long drawn out payout process.

Tossing $20 to the cocktail waitress is reasonable.

So true. None of those folks that are actually get paid to do that work help out with the losses. Or the fact that you are still NEGATIVE for the evening even with the handpay.

Yea, I do $10 - $20 and folks can do whatever they want. I totally have difficulty with those that talk about 10% tip. LOL!

    My rule of thumb:
    1%, minimum $20
Still in search of a huge jackpot where I tip more than $20.

And I typically tip extra to the waitress or bartender for bringing me good luck.

If you don't want to tip, that's totally cool.

If you chastise others for being generous, you're trash. That's not an opinion.

I think I played on that machine and probably contributed a small amount to your jackpot. Congratulations again.
