This past Tuesday, I hit a $1400.00 handpay on a .25 progressive vp machine at The D. After the paperwork was done, a guy in a suit and the lady with the cash gave me the money. I tipped the lady that paid me $100.00, but not the guy in the suit. Should I have tipped them both, and was that enough of a tip. I also tipped the cocktail waitress $40.00.

I've never hit a handpay so i haven't had to deal with this
especially about the "guy in the suit"
but ... what i've read to be the acceptable tip range is 2-3% of the handpay jackpot received
    so you tipped very generously

I believe that the tips are shared. And yes, that was a very generous tip (I tipped similarly my first time too - $200 on a $3400 HP).

Tip what you want, or don't tip at all. Some folks think a % is silly. I don't necessarily disagree, but that's still my M.O. I usually do roughly 1% of the jackpot if they're friendly and prompt. I also usually give the CW a little extra on the next round if she's been quick and friendly. Though, I think $40 is very high for a $1400 HP. I'd probably give her an extra sawbuck.

Tip what you are comfortable tipping and to whom.

Me personally, I might have tipped the hand pay lady $20 and nothing for the suit IF I didn't wait that long. Cocktail waitress or bartender? Maybe $20 if they kept booze flowing quickly while I waited.

We've had a few hand pays. I tip the staff that's been taking care of us. Some chick/dude toting the cash? No. My favorite bartender with I hit a Royal? Yes. A cocktail waitress that's been doing the minimum? No.

If the suit just stood there I probably wouldn't tip.
If he/she engaged in friendly banter, "Thanks for playing/staying with us!", etc., probably a ten.

HP person $20-40. CW $20 as I believe I tip generously with regular service as it is.
Quite a nice tip you gave the HP lady.
I wouldn't have any regrets about it if I were you.
If it felt right at the time, it felt right!

    Congrats, @Miller12pack ! I wish I had your problem! :D
I'm still searching for my first Vegas handy!

I don't regret the tip, I just didn't know for sure who to tip.

I have had a few hand pays over the years, but it never occurred to me to tip the slot attendant when he/she payed me. I haven't had a hand pay since I first heard of the practice on here. I don't know if I would remember or even think of it if I have another hand pay. I do tip CWs and dealers, though.

I'm in the "tip what you want, when you want to" camp.

I haven't had many hand pays, but I never tipped the suit. The change person if they had been helpful or were extra quick. I think always the cocktail waitress or bartender. I know who my friends are. :)

I think what you did was fine. Congrats on having that particular problem. :wink2:

Congratulations! I just checked out of the D on Tuesday. What machine did you win on?

Oh, and I think the one time I had multiple people involved, I also tipped the person that paid me, but not the guy in a suit.

I once had to wait 45 minutes for my money in Milwaukee. No tip. I got it right quick and jiffy in New Orleans, so 50 bucks. But in no way am I tipping *serious* money, unless I hit some gigantic progressive that's on the damn scoreboard above the slot like $8,946,173.21 or whatever.

In my not so humble opinion, $100 tip on a $1400 win is obscenely high and out of the question!

I've had two hand pays in all my years. Both being on VP. One at the old Fitz (D) years ago and last year at the Luxor. I remember tipping the slot attendant and the CW at the Fitz $20 each. that was a $1700 royal progressive. Last year, at the Luxor, I tipped $20 for the slot attendant and $20 to the bartender for a $1100 royal. I felt comfortable with both tips. Good for you on your tip. Probably made that slot attendants day/night!!! CONGRATS on the big hit!!!!

I've had three Royals, all paid out of the machine, so no hand pays. I personally wouldn't give more than $20 to anyone ... it seems to me that the gang gathers and tries to get whatever.

Having said that, a couple of the Royals (quarters; $1k) were at a bar. I tipped the bartender quite generously for the next several drinks ....

Congats on the win. That was a very generous tip, imo, and I'm sure was much appreciated.
I'm in the camp 'tip if you want, don't tip if you don't want', and when someone asks for guidance or onfo on tipping, I try to be helpful if possible so this is how I do it.
I'm with you on 'the suit' question - to tip or not? For me, normally it is no; but I have on occasion.
I tip the attendant that brings my money $20 for $2000 or less, $40-$50 for larger wins. My one and only 10k handpay, I tipped $100. Now if I ever win a ginormous jackpot......

You are a generous tipper. Only once have I tipped that much, on a $12,000 jackpot on Christmas night. I usually tip $20 each, maybe $40 each if I'm up and the jackpot is over $5,000. I tip each of the people handling the cash, and if they refuse, I may give it to the other person. AFAIK, it's all "pooled" anyway.

As an Aussie, I can't profess to be a tipping etiquette master but on principle, the tip should match the effort; not value. If the person - including the cocktail waitress - was prompt, friendly and efficient, I would tip the 'going rate' whether the win was $1 or $1M.

It might sound cheap but these folks never tip me after a loss.
