Been in Vegas for 2 times now. This september I will be in Vegas again with my brother. Never been off strip (except of Downtown). Which off strip casino's do I have to visit for sure for the 1 day we planned to go off strip with our Ford Mustang cabrio ;-)?

I don't think there is anywhere that you have to visit.
I didn't visit any off-Strip casino for my first maybe 20 trips to Vegas.
For the first time off-Strip, I will go with the Orleans, Palms, Gold Coast.

    I can't think of a single one that's a Must Do!

For many of them, they are formulaic and repetitive. If you fell asleep at Red Rock, for example, and woke up at Green Valley, you might not notice the difference. :) (Sorry RR/GV fans!) Ditto with Boulder Station and Sunset Station. (Sorry Station fans!)

Places like Sams Town, M, South Point, Orleans, the Cannerys, Aliante, the Arizona Charlies do have some unique qualities to them.

I might suggest sampling a few that are convenient for you.

A great excursion considering you have the car would be to go to Red Rock Canyon for the drive and maybe a hike and then follow up with Red Rock Casino. If folks knew how you like to gamble, you may get more tailored suggestions. There's not one I would suggest simply for sightseeing.

I agreed with the posters above. I would drive to Red Rock nature preserve to watch the sun come up (easy if you're on East coast time) with your morning coffee in hand. Then go for a morning hike in the preserve. End with breakfast at the buffet at Red Rock casino. Very good buffet and it's guiltless after a morning hike.
I would hit Orleans, Palms and Gold Coast for afternoon into after dinner time. There are two great Chinese restaurants in Gold Coast that are very fair with pricing.
All of these casinos have gambling that's fair and equivalent to downtown casinos.

As others have said really nothing stands out as a " have to see" type of thing but off strip casinos are my favorite these days for the price service and fair gambling odds. Just wanted to give you a few highlights of the places you may want to visit:
GVR- beautiful property- solid food choices- lots of VP and slots and the district is right next door with the best BBQ I have had in LV at Lucilles.
RR- beautiful property- lots of VP to play - staff usually very friendly to deal with- I have had problems getting comps there and it is a ways out but a very nice place
SP - Big nice rooms- free shuttle to and from airport- a lot of good food choices- hotdogs in sportsbook are great! Deli in sports book has great quick snack food- a lot of VP bars and VP on the floors to play at. Cocktail service is usually very good and quick- friendly staff just a solid place to stay and play all the way around.
Orleans- Big casino- big rooms- decent pool area- food choices are trying to go more " up scale " which usually means higher prices- lots of VP bars and VP on the floor to play. Service is usually very good and progressives at front bar can get very high before they are hit, plus at night you can listen to the locals bands playing right behind you.
GC- rooms are small but clean and bed is comfortable. A couple of VP bars to play at but most VP machines on floor are uprights very very few slant tops at this place. Food is decent but not as many choices as other places but the price is always right both for the rooms and the food.
M- way out there but well worth the look. Rooms are some of the best I have ever stayed at in LV- service is also the best I have had in LV but I haven't stayed there since Trop owners took over so this may have changed. VP choices are good and a lot of slant tops to play at. Food choices are not the best and price is high. Buffet is very good but the cost is very high too.
Palms- have never stayed in room so don't know- but service has always been very good- a couple of nice bars to play at - good selection of VP all around the place- is now part of Stations Company so points are easy is build up- a lot of food choices at decent prices too and food court in back of casino with even more machines to play. Plus the location is great. GC across street and pick up shuttle there to Orleans and strip and the RIO is also across the strip so can pick up shuttle there to the strip as well.

This depends greatly on what you want from an off strip casino (excluding downtown). Are you wanting to play? If so do you play video poker? Do you want to eat? Do you just want to site see? Sam's Town runs a free light show multiple times a day called Mystic Falls...I love it, it's a must see every trip I take...Be sure to catch the show once the sun goes down. Gold Coast has Ping Pang Pong which is another must eat every trip I take, just prepare yourself, Gold Coast is certainly NOT a strip casino lol...Pretty gritty, which I actually like. Red Rock and other Station casinos are massive and easily have the best video poker options, use vpfree2 to find the full pay machines. Casinos just facinate me really, it doesn't matter the size or the atmosphere, I just love to see different ones. I have visited 44 casinos in Vegas and plan to cross off another 10 or so on my next trip.

My only 'must see' casino every trip is to pop in at the Skyline and check their 9/6 JoB progressive. One trip it was over $6,800 for the royal. I spent almost 1/2 my gambling time in that dump. Didn't hit it but did come out ahead. Your trip has different expectations.

The M is a great casino with fair VP, a nice sportsbook, outstanding little sushi place and friendly employees...enjoy my time there

I like visiting off-strip casinos in the form of coupon runs and sometimes in between small excursions (i.e Red Rock Canyon, Fire Valley etc.). However, any nice off-strip casinos like Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch do not provide a much more different experience than the swanky tribal casinos around LA. So, they will be a cool stop while you are driving around, but making them a specific destination is not going to add too much to your Vegas experience.

One off-strip casino that you might find interesting is the Ellis Island. It's close to the Strip (walkable), and gives you a nice old school vibe of Vegas. I visit it pretty much every other trip for the steak special and some cheap VP.

Not sure what "must see" might mean for you. I've been staying off strip for over twenty years now, so I'm a proponent of locals casinos. I think there are three reasons for visiting locals joints. First, the gambling is much better than on the strip. Second, the food and beverage is far more reasonable than the strip. The third reason is one that most people don't consider and it's exploring. Driving to locals joints lets you get to know something other than Las Vegas Blvd. I got to know most every area of the valley by staying at and visiting different off strip casinos. I would recommend hitting at least a couple if not more for one day. Because they're much smaller, navigating a casino floor doesn't take a half an hour. In most locations, your room to valet takes about five minutes!
I think a good day might be taking the 215 East down to old Henderson and visiting the original locals places like Emerald Island or the Rainbow (great breakfast). Next take the Boulder highway north to Sunset and head left for Sunset Station. Afterward, take a left out of SS and go up the hill to Green Valley Parkway and take another left. Green Valley Ranch is about 3-4 miles south. Once you're done you can hop onto the 215 West which is on the north side of the property. This will take you back to LV Blvd or I-15, whichever you prefer. This should be a full day and give you a real cross section of locals gaming.

    Good Luck!
    Ric at Joes

My vote would be Ellis Island, ( although close to the Strip! ) Or perhaps Sam's Town or Boulder Station.

Sam's Town at night for the Mystic Park light show, if you're in to that kind of thing.

Besides those mentioned I recommend the Silverton. Has a huge aquarium in the entrance with live mermaid shows. they usually have some type of sign up bonus for their slot club like free buffet or similar. you will also receive future mailing for minimal play. They also have a huge bass pro shop attached.

The other 2 casinos would be Palms and Hard rock - always fun.

Drive out to Red Rock Casino, get a nice breakfast in their buffet, gamble a little, explore this resort, then drive over to Red Rock Canyon Park and see Mother Nature at her finest. This park is amazing! Red Rock Casino is not far from the park.

This post is spot-on. I go to Las Vegas to gamble at good odds with reasonable food options. The locals places have the best video poker you can find anywhere and dining options that are not only good, but have tremendous value. I very rarely visit the Strip with its ripoff food and gambling and large crowds everywhere. I would no longer travel to Las Vegas if it wasn't for the these places.
