Solo trip - hotel suggestions?

Hi all

I'm going to a conference in July (19th/20th) and I will be on my own. To save money I am going to drive to Vegas. And I have decided that I don't really care about staying on the strip - I have no comps or offers to make the cost worth while.

I am looking for a nice room and a casino with good craps and BJ. I am leaning towards Orleans but wanted suggestions?

It will be a Monday through Thursday trip.

Over the past year I have stayed in NYNY, Cromwell, palazzo, wynn. All are expensive for the room you get (except NYNY that room was a dump) so I'm not seeing any reason to stay on the strip seeing as the tables are getting pretty rubbish these days.

 

Funny - I'll be there the exact same days on a solo trip. I'll be staying at the Four Queens downtown for $23 per night and no resort fee ($84 all in for three nights with taxes, if I remember correctly). In addition, Four Queens gives you a $10 dining credit for every day you don't use housekeeping. If you're looking for something like the Orleans, Four Queens isn't it, but the location is great, it's plenty nice for a guy travelling solo, gambling odds are far better downtown, and the value is unbeatable. Seeing as saving money is one of your objectives, it might be worth a look.

 

Thanks for the tip. I will take a look, I'm open to suggestions. The reason I am leaning towards the Orleans is i have heard a lot of good about it and I have no other point of reference.

 

If you thought NYNY was a dump I would suspect you wouldn't be happy with the 4Qs. I think properties that would fit your comfort level would be:
M
RR (Red Rock)
GVR (Green Valley Ranch)

RR and GVR have 5x odds on craps and terrific vp paytables.
M has 3-4-5x odds on craps and fair vp paytables.

 

Curious? Where is the conference and do you need to be in a place relatively close to it? Most of the places that have rooms anything like you may be used to aren't going to be really close to the strip. I do love the Orleans but I am a slot player and have no idea on tables. But based on your history, I don't know if that's the best choice.

South Point might be a good choice. Good games and rooms are pretty nice. Depends on the commute.

 

Nothing wrong with the Orleans for table games in fact its not bad at all. Plus comps use to be very easy to get with just 5 dollar play there but of course it looks like they are tightening things up right now with Boyd. Plus you have the shuttle that will take you to the strip if you need action there. I will say that the SP is really a great choice as well. Lots of table games with great rules and cool dealers. Good food big rooms and a huge casino. It is 7 miles from MBay but for a solo gambling trip it fits your needs perfectly.

 

If your a craps player Main Street Station offers 100x odds and is a easy stroll to another craps and bj nirvana---el cortez....stay at MSS tho not cortez

Main Street Station craps is 20x odds, not 100x.
Also, the El Cortez Cabana Suites are good rooms for solo folks.

The conference is at the convention centre. I don't mind a bit of drive in the mornings.

I will check out the suggestions. As long as the place has clean rooms with comfortable beds and the casino has some action I'm ok.

so..... you have a car. I would say go ahead and stay at the Orleans. you can drive downtown and check things out, it is an easy drive. that is, if you don't plan on drinking. then it is a cheap Uber ride.

 

The problem is some of these suggestions are considerably cheaper than the Orleans. TripAdvisor reviews of the el Cortez cabana suites look good and they are $20 a night cheaper than the Orleans.

 

there is a coupon in the MRB for BOGO night at the ELCO. it is a good investment if you don't already have one. it contains a lot of good coupons for downtown, pays for itself easily.

I'd suggest any room in downtown. With El Cortez, there's a resort fee ($13 per night). It's the best place to play blackjack though.

 

When at Sothpoint, add The M and Silverton.

 

Golden Gate. Pay to stay once and you'll get free rooms for a while. Simple, clean rooms. Great location.
