    My Trip Report

Fifteenth trip to Las Vegas but first time trying a trip report while traveling. I had planned to go two weeks ago, staying either at Luxor or the California. Three trips for work within a month wore me out so I decided to postpone my Las Vegas trip.

Now I'm staying one night at the Downtown Grand followed by two nights at the D.

No shows or tours planned, just low rolling video poker and blackjack.

Having left him behind on my work trips, Brainy is excited to be traveling with me again.

Flying out of terminal 2 in Minneapolis it is so quiet I could almost take a nap. I checked in within seconds of the 24-hour mark, and ended up with boarding position B11 on Southwest.

Unless something unusual happens with the flight, my next post might be a picture of my dinner.

    Hi, WWGB!

    Have an awesome trip!
I'm excited to see/hear your observations on the excitement DT...

Humphrey is so quiet compared to the Lindbergh terminal.
Hopefully you and Brainy had seats together!

First time using National Car Rental in Las Vegas. I picked out a Nissan Altima from the Emerald Aisle. No waiting in line, and I found a great rate to get the car for three days for only $54.

I stopped for dinner at Rollin Smoke. I went there last April for the first time and really enjoyed it. This time, not so much. I ordered the same beef brisket and pulled pork combo as last time, but the meat was very fatty tonight. I only ate about half of it. At least I remembered to use the 10% off coupon from their website. The mashed potatoes were good, though.

I used the valet parking at the Downtown Grand. Only one person ahead of me to check in. I booked a queen room on a casino offer of $169 with no resort fee. I might be here during one of the busiest and most expensive weekends of the year.

My request for a room in the Grand Tower facing away from 3rd Street (Avenue?) was granted, so I have a fighting chance at a quiet night. Room is really nice; too bad I have to check out tomorrow.

Brainy decided to take a nap while I left to gamble.

Good luck downstairs. Looks like Brainy has things under control in the room. Following along...

First stop was the Fremont. There was an instant win promotion if you earned 5 points by 8:00 PM. With a few minutes to spare, I earned my 5 points on a Treasure Chest machine, losing $5 in the process. My "prize" was a multiplier for entries in a drawing? Lame.

I found the Super Times Pay machines that had 8/5 bonus poker for quarters, and lost another $15 there. Sadly the payout drops to 6/5 for nickels, unlike Orleans which had 7/5 for nickels the last time I visited.

And now we move from the lame promotion to the misunderstood one. At check-in at the Grand, I received a coupon book that included $10 free play after earning 500 points ($1000 coin-in on video poker). After earning about 650 points ($1300 coin-in) I went to redeem the coupon. I found out that you had to redeem the coupon BEFORE earning the points. Argh.

Still, I was able to turn the 2 American Casino Guide coupons in for $20 in free play, which I turned into $10. I also used the first of two $5 free play awards from my offer, and hit a few quads en route to earning the points.

Final gambling stop of the evening was Main Street Station. $1500 coin-in (1200 hands) on the Treasure Chest game only yielded one quad, for 140 quarters. The scratch-off ticket was worth $2, for a net loss of $83.

Overall loss for the first day was $73. Strangest thing I saw on Fremont Street was Darth Vader petting a woman's snake. Now I just need to fall back asleep so I can get a good start to day 2.

Sucks about the DTG promo. Gold Coast is the same way on coupons, but what is weirder, Orleans isn't.

After being burned the same way, I now head straight to the player's club before I start.

They were filming Star Wars Episode 5-1/2: Promise of the Buskers

Darth Vader: "The Force is strong with you."

    Snake: "Ssssssssssssssssssssssssss."

The nice thing about having trouble sleeping (despite the fact that the room was actually quiet) was that I could take advantage of the early bird special. After my $5 food credit it cost me $1.32 plus tip for eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuit, and coffee.

The coffee was very good, but the waitress never brought my refill. Food was good enough, but great for the price!

I checked out and drove to Mass at the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer (across from Luxor). That's about as close as I was going to get to the Strip this trip.

Brief stops at Hooters and Ellis Island to use the ACG free play coupons yielded $28 and $2.75 (plus a t-shirt), respectively.

A consequence of the early breakfast was that I wasn't going to make it until dinner without something to eat. I stopped to refuel at In-N-Out. Not comped, but for $6 I can't complain.

Final off-strip stop was at Orleans. I played $500 through 5-line 7/5 bonus poker with Super Times Play. I lost $49 and called it quits. The ACG free play coupon resulted in a small offset to my loss, $2.90.

Oh, and since my birthday is this month, I got to pick a balloon at the BConnected kiosk. That got me 1,000 extra slot points.
