If traveling, how would you come up with cash-fast?

You need money for an immediate emergency. More than your credit card limit. How would you do it?

Assuming you have the funds at home. I checked with my brokerage firm and they said a wire transfer would take 24 hours. The bank told me the same. I mean immediate cash in the 10s of thousands.

Western Union won't do that much.

Any options for immediate cash?

Your bank and brokerage tell you 24 hours but they're building in a lot of cushion in that to ensure they don't overpromise. In reality, particularly if you explain your emergency situation, it can be done in less than an hour.

Personally, I have family and friends I trust who I could give access to funds and have them hop on the next plane as well.

 

No idea. I'm a little lucky, with all my cc's I probably have about 40k available. My debit card off my savings I probably have another 10k available. If the problem is in vegas I have a Hawaii credit union with a branch in vegas that has a few cd's worth another 20k. I can probably tap my bro or sister for extra cash (wire up to me) but no guarantees.

Guess that is one of the good things about having a number of credit cards.

 

Okay - the REAL question. What situation would somebody need that kind of money - ASAP?

 

I am sure that my bank would be able to do it for me. I know I could call and they would transfer fund into the right accounts for me to access it. maybe even arrange a short term loan.

That's correct. I have wired money to various banks around the world in under an hour

 

they are not holding him hostage. They want to be paid first. Same, same as any Asian country. You have to understand differences in culture.

Having a personal relationship with your bank manager and financial advisor could make this happen with a couple of phone calls.

I keep up a personal relationship with my bank manager by simply going in every month for a copy of my monthly bank statement (I tell her I can't seem to get it to print from my computer so I end up having a 5 minute conversation with her every month.) Anyone with savings of even moderate size should have a personal relationship with their financial advisor.

 

Fortunately I have close friends who we could depend on if this happened outside the US. TRAVEL INS!! cant stress this enough.

Yeah wire transfer can be done within hours. The one time I needed I asked for it 9 am and by noon money was in my account.

 

If this is Joe's thread the hospital wouldn't take the travel insurance.

Also, a wire out of the country can be initiated in a short time but can (seriously) take up to 7 days to arrive. With a domestic, if you get it out before that bank closes wire operations for day you should have it at least by next morning.
