    My Trip Report

    Friday 14th April

So, myself and my son Kyle arrived at the airport for our trip to Cleveland. We were flying with AA via Philadelphia, check in was easy and our flight was on time. We arrived in Philly slightly early and this was good. The immigration computers went down so there was a delay getting through. We eventually got through and rechecked our luggage and made our way for our flight to Cleveland.

The plane was the smallest I have been on just 50 seats and the plane probably had about 40 people on it. We arrived in Cleveland about 5.30 pm and collected out luggage and headed for a cab. They have a good system with the cab where you tell the guy where you are going and he prints off a slip of paper with the destination and fare to give to the driver.

It was $36 from the airport to the Radisson hotel where we were staying. We did get stuck in the game day traffic but eventually we got to the hotel and quickly checked in. Once we were changed we headed out to Progressive Field. I had gone for the cheaper seats for the first game as I wasn’t sure how late we would be to the game. We decided to go in the 8th and find a bar, when we got there we watched as the Indians hit a grand slam.

We were having a drink in The Clevelander bar and then decided to have a walk. Kyle was tired and went back to the hotel while finished my night in the Tilted Kilt.

Me and Kyle met up at 11am and went to get something to eat. We had a walk down the street and went into Pannis. We both got very filling sandwiches and when it started raining we stopped in there for a drink until it passed off. We had a walk down to the lake and visited The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A very interesting place with some great pieces of memorabilia in there. After there we had a walk over to the Cleveland Browns stadium before returning to the hotel. We had a couple of drinks in there before heading off to the game.

A better result for us today and after the game we went back to the hotel bar. We went for a walk and ended up in Flannerys Irish bar for a couple of drinks before heading over to Tilted Kilt for the rest of the night.

We met in the bar about 12 and I had a couple of drinks before we headed to the game. We were in the club section and we both enjoyed our afternoon in there, just a pity about the result. We headed back to the hotel and chilled before heading to the bar for a drink. We decided to have a walk out. This was the day of the guy getting murdered in Cleveland and a lot of bars were shutting early. We found City tap but because my son was 18 he couldn’t stay in there although he did serve us a drink.

After there we managed to find one other place open which was The Clevelander. We had no problems in there. Kyle got some big ass burger and we stayed till closing time. Kyle headed back to the hotel while I went back to City Tap for a couple of drinks before bed.

It was a very nice weekend and we both loved the place and getting to watch the Indians as well. I certainly will return for another visit. I think we got lucky with the weather as well. Apart from a rain shower on Saturday the rest of the time was very warm weather.

    Great report, Stig!
Plus with the nice spring weather you were hopefully able to remove your helmet and enjoy the sunshine! :poke:

I did enjoy it a lot as did Kyle even though he couldn't drink. I just found it to be a really nice city with a lot of friendly people.

Love those club seats. I see a lot of empty sections upstairs. Maybe I'll get up there a few times now in case they start selling out, which in 1995 started in early June. You did get lucky with the weather. April usually stinks. I notice you didn't mention a trip to the casino. Good choice, even if everyone is of legal age. Bad games after the first year of operation, and a weak Las Vegas connection since Penn took over.

Too bad the Tribe couldn't cooperate as well as the weather did this weekend. Glad you enjoyed our fair city, I may be biased, but I think it is one of the best the country has to offer.

Is dan Gilbert associated with penn? I thought the jack was owned by his own company and independent of any of the big players.

I should of had a visit to the casino to see what it was like. I really enjoyed the entertainment of the games and I would like to return and see some more games. The city is great and I met a lot of friendly people. I will certainly be back and see you again.
