We're going in October or November and planned to stay at NYNY. However, we're cheap. Do we try someplace new and save money? Save money did you say? Yeah, I love saving money! But....

Excalibur? Is it worth the savings?

Knowing so many months ahead of time when we're going just isn't good for me. Last week I was contemplating Aria over NYNY, this week I'm thinking maybe save money. So, I really want to know about Excalibur. Is it worth the low cost or are you truly getting what you pay for?

Excaliber is located across from the NYNY where you can hang out at and have lots of fun.

They have a cheapy food court that I like to eat at. You can take a bus across the street to go all along the Vegas Strip and into town. Just buy a 24 hour bus pass and you can get off and get on.
When you get really tired you take the bus that drops you off in front of the Excaliber.

The rooms are very simple and it is just a bed to sleep. I prefer the Ling that has remodeled rooms.
Plus, the Ling is close to all the action in the middle of the strip.

If you're lookin cheap cheap, have you ever dropped any coin in at CET? I'm hardcore MLIFE and Cosmo (as long as it keeps going). I've never stayed at CET, and dropped MINIMAL coin there (I'm talking less than four hundred dollars coin IN on slots for last year.) BUT you might be surprised to have some free nights...if you check.

Their emails to me never state free rooms, but surprisingly, everytime I look online, I have up to 5 nights free (just resort fees) as a teaser offer...including Paris and PH. If you want cheap, and possibly a better room than Excal. it's worth checking.

Ps if you are eyeballing Aria, they DO sometimes do great teaser offers if you put in a few hours on slots. We did that one year while staying at Monte Carlo, and we were shocked to come back to an offer of 3 nights free a Month or two later

It's now been 4 free trips to Aria...and needless to say, we'll keep running with it while we can. And I was probably maxing at $1.50 a spin on that trip, no 5$ a spin or anything. (Slots, not VP, VP is different.)

So, check CET....try booking a room to see if freebies come up. Also, if you want Aria, put some coin in this trip.

Cosmo is another to consider seeding. AMAZING property, solid on teasers, and their player program makes MLIFE look a little pathetic. Don't get me wrong, MLIFE has been great to us, but tier perks at Cosmo simply knock tier perks at MLIFE out of the water.

Personally, I'd pay a little less this trip on rooms and seed for future offers, but I'm a big cheapo too! :)

Depends on where you like to be on the strip, what you like doing in Vegas, and how you generally pay for rooms in Vegas. I visited my friend's tower suite room at the Excalibur not too long ago, and I have nothing much to say about Excalibur other than they have rooms with beds. If that's all you need, Excalibur or Luxor are the hotels for you, although I would prefer Luxor due its proximity to Mandalay Bay.

I have stayed at Excalibur twice. No problems. I was looking for a cheap room and that is what I got, no surprises. I would stay there again, but I really do not like being that far south on the strip.
But, if you are just looking for cheap, clean room and do not have high expectations, you will be fine. If you are looking for luxury, look some where else. You get what you pay for.

I never stayed there , but i heard very diffrent stories about Excalibur.

My opinion is pay a little extra and go for a NYNY or a Tower room in Luxor.

Depends on what you want to do in Vegas. Personally I love the South end and I mostly play at Mlife casinos. The Excalibur is a perfect jumping off point if you feel the same way.

You are connected, via the free monorail, to Luxor & Mandalay Bay. Or you can walk right through all three of them since they are connected. MGM & NY NY across the street. Food Court is good, and the buffet is not bad. The casino is always hopping and there is lots to do there. The rooms are really OK. See if you can get a widescreen room and you will be happy enough. For the price, including the resort fee, its not a bad choice.

The rooms there should be bigger than NY NY if that helps.

I'm always of the opinion that you don't have to stay in the same casino where you gamble, eat or see shows. It's just a place to sleep. It boils down to location (for me anyway). If you like the area around Excal then it's a good option. For a mid strip property it's a great value.

My first visit to Vegas was in the Excalibur and found it great. Obviously you are not going to get Wynn standards etc but the position is ok and a bit more relaxed down that end compared to Mid strip which suited us.

New York New York/Luxor/Mandalay Bay and MGM are all close by so some decent places to hang out not far from home.

Each to their own though but I would have a good time in Vegas wherever I was staying and like Vic says you don't have to spend all your time in the hotel you are staying at.

It is just a place to sleep for me. We'll walk all over the strip to do whatever we are wanting to do. We do seem to spend more time at NYNY or MGM for most of our gambling and eating, but we also wind up all over. One thought I had this morning is that it may be nice to have the spa suite at NYNY or maybe the one of the Superior King rooms at Excal. Much cheaper for the Super room at Excal. How are those rooms like?

The tram from XCal to Luxor and MBay is also great.

On one of my first trips to Las Vegas over 20 years ago, I went to the buffet for dinner. It was something like $6.99. Awful.
Two years ago I had a myvegas for the buffet at the Excal for one since my buddy was working. I had heard that they had renovated the buffet.
For breakfast, it was pretty decent. I don't know if my expectations were lowered but I would go again. It wasn't terribly fancy, but there was a good assortment of choices and the quality of the food was good.

@tmoney25 - In your last 5 trips to LV, just wondering where you stayed? For me, Excalibur isn't worth the low cost but I know everyone has their budget. Since saving money is a factor for you, I'd book Excalibur (make sure it's refundable), then look for other hotel options (MLIFE/Total Rewards) between now and Oct/Nov. Also, I'm confused you threw Aria in there as they are on the total opposite pricing spectrum as Excalibur... Aria is normally my spot but was too expensive for my golf buddies so I'm stuck at MGM next month... I know the prices at Aria so that's why I'm confused... Charlie

I think they're saying they were considering splurging on the Aria, but now might want to go the other direction. At any rate, the Excalibur is fine. Anyone who complains about Excalibur either hasn't been in the last five years, or has expectations that are rather divorced from reality. The rooms are clean and recently renovated, but not particularly stylish or large. They have a range of restaurants from "food court" to "mid-priced chain" to "decent steakhouse". There is a spa, but I have no idea why. It's a clean, inexpensive place to lay your head and store your shit. Doesn't take much to get comped there. It's fine.

I'd also suggest that OP keep an eye on prices at the Monte Carlo if they can tolerate construction noise, because there are some deals to be had right now and I'm sure that will only get worse in the next six months.

@fugsworth - I agree; however, I couldn't figure out if the OP was looking for that "inexpensive place to lay your head and store your shit" or an Aria type place to splurge at. Information is key...

@guapoxxx - I'm all over the place right now! lol. I've stayed at MGM, MB, Bellagio and NYNYx2. I could easily make NYNY my home base, and in the end I'll probably wind up staying there again but I also don't want to pigeon hole myself into just that experience. My last trip was for a conference and it was at Aria, but to save my company money (and to make sure I could get to the conference) I elected to stay at NYNY, my wife joined me towards the end of the conference and we were going to stay a few extra days and move to Aria, but it was just easier to stay the entire time at NYNY, after a conference I didn't feel like packing to move to another place for only 2 more nights. At some point I would like to stay at all the places, but I don't go enough to make that an easily conquerable goal right now. So for this trip, I'm torn on what to do... go with what I know, or spend some money on a room at a nicer property, or save money on the room and increase the bankroll a bit.

I should also add, my wife comes from a dutch family. They fit the cheapness stereotype to a T. I'd have to get a really good deal at Aria to convince my wife to stay there without feeling guilty about spending money... all this seems funny because, you don't go to Vegas without blowing money!

To me it is worth the savings depending on what they are of course. it is right next door and i spend very little time in my room anyway.

LOL being all over the place is a good thing as there's lots of options in Vegas! From what I read, I'd book Excalibur then frequent NYY, MGM, MB, Bellagio etc. as you'll have more bankroll to play with. Please let us know what you decide! :peace:

I'm waiting on a couple of things before deciding, but I may book Excal now and cancel once something better comes along, or somewhere else I'd rather stay has something that helps me decide.

I'm waiting to see if work will send me to a conference again this year. The conference hasn't officially been announced yet so I can't provide costs. If I don't get to go to the conference I'm going to Vegas anyway, but then I get to be flexible as to which week. If I go to the conference it is on company dime, but I can't go all out with the top notch hotel. My company will pay for my stay during the conference, and then I would stay an extra couple of days when my wife joins me and that part is on our dime. If the dates the conference organizer unofficially mentioned turns out to be correct then to stay an extra two nights is nearly equal to a 4 night stay if I were to skip the conference and come a week or two later. So, I'm sorta hoping to not get sent to the conference this year and then I've got a few weeks in October or November that work for us to go. I'd rather go during the week instead of a busy weekend anyway.

I'm also waiting on the myVegas calender for July - December to be released. I do have enough points for some rooms and the availability can also decide where we stay.
