So I have my first smartphone and have successfully sent a text to someone.

I saw the post about text Grand to 44136 for some free offers. I've tried using Grand as the recipient and I tried using 44136 as the recipient. Both ways come back as "service access denied". Help a dummy. How do I do this. I have sent a text to a phone number and that worked.

44136 should be the recipient maybe a hyphen somewhere

    441-36 is the correct.

Enter 44136 after the To: and put GRAND as the message

you should call your phone company, some text numbers are blocked as there might be extra charges

OK, got this figured out after doing a Google. Tmobile had short codes blocked on my phone. Called them and got it straightened out and I won a whopping $10 in free play.

Just be cautious when texting to some of the short code numbers. There are some out there that you are signing up for some service when you send that message and the cost will be added to your cell phone bill.

yes, that's why Tmobile now has them blocked, unless you opt-in.

I just keep them blocked, a while back an unwanted incoming text with a charge came in, it wasn't alot and I got TMo to reverse it.
