2 nights from MyVegas for West Wing MGM room

Ok so I have been reading reviews and wondering how bad this room is going to be. I have stayed some places in Vegas that weren't fancy and usually only in the room to sleep and shower so I feel like I'm not that picky. Do the rooms compare to a standard room like I've stayed in before; Flamingo, Golden Gate, Plaza before and after renovations, Golden Nugget Carson tower room?

Anyone stayed in West Wing room or had any luck at check in with upgrade after using free MyVegas offer?

 

west wing tower was previously the Marino hotel. MGM is not good with upgrading those rooms from myvegas comp. At least from what I have read.

 

Almost stayed there a couple of years ago. SWA had a super low rate for flights and a stay in rooms at the West Wing. I had the thought that I better watch some YouTube videos of the room before I booked, very glad I did...I then realized why the prices were so low. If you have the chance watch a couple of the videos, this should give you a good idea before you book.

 

The windows.... it's like you're in a basement or something. If I was doing a solo trip I would consider it, but the window is a no deal for me. I need a big window so I can have daylight when I'm in my room. I don't spend a lot of time in the room, but I also don't like to feel like I'm in a dungeon.

 

The rooms are very small, dark and as tmoney25 said.... Dungeon like. Being it's free I'd still go for it.
Just a tip... Ask for a room near the elevator because the West Wing has VERY long hallways and if you're room is on one of the ends you have to double back getting to your room. It takes forever.

 

I know the rooms are small and the bathroom is basically in the room but my wife and I stayed there a few years ago and actually liked the room fine. It was nicer than staying at Harrahs for similar money. Now I know they have updated Harrahs since then and West Wing hasn't been updated but don't assume you'll hate it just because it is small and the boo birds are the first to respond to questions about it.

 

I feel unfairly rip the West Wing rooms. Are they anywhere as nice as the Grand Tower accommodations? Nope. And yes they are significantly smaller, 350 sq ft vs. 446. The windows might as well be non-existent and you walk through 1/2 of MGM to get to your room.

BUT.....they are also close to the sportsbook, the buffet and the deli plus they offer a quick exit to the Strip. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are no smaller than your typical Harrahs, Linq, and most downtown rooms.

To the OP, West Wing is better than the Golden Gate rooms (a low bar, to be sure) but they get smoked by anything the Nugget has to offer. They are smaller (but IMHO nicer) than the old Plaza rooms. Can't compare directly to new Plaza or current Flamingo.

 

West Wing bar exit is my favorite way out!

This is a damned good point. The absolute best thing about the West Wing location, though it is a country mile away from check-in.

We stayed at West Wing prior to kids and it was honestly big enough for the wife and I. It was kind of neat actually. I have photos from said stay somewhere.

 

I have walked through the West Wing as a shortcut out of MGM. I thought it was high traffic, and kind of low on my safety radar.

 

If you can, upgrade. I tried to ask if there were "complimentary upgrades" available and planned to tip her $20 for 2 nights after she did it. But I didn't have a $20 flashed out first...that was clearly a mistake. She made it a 10 minute ordeal and checked with managers before denying me. That delay help screw up my initial evening's plans as well. I am pretty sure the grand kings were selling for only $10 more/nt when we went. I would gladly paid that difference. Probably upwards of $25 more a night. The grand king is MUCH better.

 

I don't consider the opinions on this to be boo birds... Seems most are giving specific details of their experience and what they liked and what they didn't about the West Wing.

 

I certainly wasn't. I could definitely stay in that room, especially on a solo trip, if it had a larger window. I need natural day light and that window doesn't seem like it will cut it for me. I had actually considered staying in a West Wing room for quite some time, but when I youtubed some room reviews I realized that room wouldn't be good for me.

 

From what I could see on the website, there's no door on the bathroom. That was a deal breaker for me, even though it's a solo trip.

As a side note, this has lead to a week long conversation in the office about whether or not you close the bathroom door when staying in a hotel room solo. I said yes, but apparently I'm in the minority.

 

If I'm solo then I only close the door if I made it smell really foul.

 

MONEY talks so you can upgrade from any level room. Its not set in stone what room you have to take.

 

Like everything else, the *official* Grand Tower upgrade price varies widely. It's $40/night for my wedding trip Easter week (a slow time period) so I booked another place instead.

Frankly if a 10 minute check in delay in a 5000 room hotel ruins your evening plans, that really isn't on the hotel staff.

 

Thanks for all the input!! My hubby and I watched YouTube videos (that was a great suggestion) and both thought for a free room we will be fine. He liked all the mirrors the room had.
Love all the helpful people on this board and it makes planning a Vegas trip so much more exciting!!

 

Stayed there for 2 night with my vegas as well, room was more than fine, yes its a bit on the small side but i liked a lot
