How much money would you need to win in order to cover your wants/desires?

Here's a thread that can become fun! Just how much money would you have to win (not including the taxes aspect) in order to cover everything you want. You could be conservative, selfish, whatever you want. As for me, here's what I'd want/do:

Purchase the following vehicles (since I love cars):
2017 Lamborghini Huracan $208,000 est.
2017 Nissan GT-R $108,000 est.
2017 Porsche 911 GT3 $150,000 est.

Purchase the following homes (prices as of today, on realtor.com):
Yorba Linda, CA (6bd, 5ba, 4 car garage) $2,699,000 (this would be the home I live in)
Hawaii Kai (Honolulu) (4br,4ba, 3 car garage) $6,500,000 (this would be the vacation home)

Can't forget funding my retirement account, a nice figure would be $2,000,000.

Lastly, $6,000,000 just for normal "everyday" things would be nice.

I don't have an extravagant lifestyle......so what is listed above would probably enough for me to last awhile.
So, I would say $17,665,000. Let's round that number up to $20,000,000. That's a nice number. $20 million will be all what I would need.

 

I only need enough money to pay off my mortgage, loc, and any balances on my credit cards, plus a little extra to do some renovations on and around the house and get a new vehicle for me and one for my wife. Merely paying off the mortgage alone would be life changing enough. Can you imagine living "rent free"? A lot less costs to cover makes more indispensable income!

 

Oh and I'd get a truck and 5th wheel to accommodate my family's camping trips... and for this one I would make sure my brother-in-law gets super jealous.

To pay off what I have, buy what I want, and live comfortably for the rest of my life, probably about 2 million.

 

My needs are few. My wants are many.

Call it $25 million after taxes. That gives us a couple of homes, "f*ck it" money and enough to establish a couple of good-sized scholarships at my high school.

Oh, and a butler to pour my morning flute of Dom Perignon.

 

You could basically get all of those things on a couple days. So what other stuff will you want after that?

Its never ends. I just appreciate what I have now.

 

$20 million seems like a nice number. Enough for a nice $500k house here, pay off bills and student loans, travel funds, money to continue w/my masters and PhD, money to cover my parents and sisters comfortably, money for a friend or two...

 

I mean, are we talking pie in the sky numbers or something attainable with a lot of hard work ?

My lots of hard work goal is to fly dad and I (we're car guys) to the closest Lamborghini dealer, buy one - even if it's a lightly used Gallardo or whatever is a few years old at the time and drive it back - we'll share it on the weekends. This is more important to me then saving for any kids college fund, lol (priorities!)

Pie in the sky - why stop there?
McLaren F1 (whatever color I can get)
McLaren P1 (red)
Lamborghini Aventador Roadster all black (batman!)
BMW M6 convertible for the daily driver (black)
BMW X6 incase we stay in NY (snow belt) (black)
(these are just for me, lol - the wife can have her Bentley she keeps seeing in LV valets and says "ooo - that's a pretty car", i look over "honey, yeah, thats'a 300k car")

A nice house - not huge - 4-5000 Sq Ft - any bigger and ain't no one got time to keep it clean (and not gonna hire a house keeper) - 1 house is fine.
All debts - gone
A nice retirement package
Go spend a month in Monte Carlo (the actual country, not the hotel) and catch the F1 race. Gambling money / high end restaurant money, etc... I'm sure I could spend a mil here alone, lol

Enough money to start my own development firm and actually hire some programmers / designers and have runway for about 2 years incase the first few ideas failed. Obviously the most badass MacPro I can configure and array of monitors to go with it (20-30k - peanuts at this Fantasy)

If I was blessed with just $80,000.25 in extra funds I'd be able to pay off mortgage and bride's student loans and set a little aside to aid my minions in setting up whatever they'd like to do after high school. (Not a free ride for the minions by any means, just a little money to aid in their getting started on the path to independence.)

And the quarter to pay back my friend Todd for the quarter I bummed to buy popcorn after school back in 1984.
I hope he isn't expecting interest...

Of course, if I had lottery jackpot money (see current Lottery thread) I'd be able to afford to get a little crazy.

Since this Is based on desires and not reality, I'm taking the selfish route:

$55 million - that would be 10 million to each of my two daughters, 10 million to each of my two grandsons, 5 million to my favorite charities, and 10 million for dear hubby and me to live and gamble comfortably for our remaining years - if we outlive our money, our kids or grandkids can afford to take care of us, lol.

 

Wow, each time I come up with a figure, I start thinking of what I would do then realize its not enough.
So, I increase and mentally buy more stuff and realize again its still not enough.
Give me any amount and eventually it won't be enough.
Lets just say we are talking about enough money where I could never spend it all.
Waste it all, yes, but not spend it.

 

As I'm pushing 70 and having lived close to the belt all of my life, I just want engirt $ to have a couple of trips to Vegas a year, pay doctor bills, and have enough to live out my days somewhat comfortably.

I would be a different person if I had a lot of coin, and I wonder if I would like myself.

This. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to find out. I'm just not sure any such number exists. People living paycheck to paycheck would love to have even 5 figures socked away. Middle class people would love to have 7 figures in assets. Millionaires want to have tens of millions, and so on.

Right now, I see stuff that people with 25 million to their name have access to, and I'd love to have it. But if I fall into 25 million tomorrow, after awhile I'm sure I'd see things that people with 9 figures have access to, and I'd want those things. I think it would be a never ending cycle. Again though, I sure as shit would love to find out.

On a "behind the scenes" of Shark Tank that ran a year or two ago in advance of their 100th episode, Robert Herjavec commented about how much it pisses him off that Mark Cuban has more money than the rest of the sharks combined. If a guy who is legitimately one of the wealthiest men on earth (~200 million net worth) can be envious of another's financials, I don't think I would be any different.

 

I know this is just a fun thread and all, but I really believe I just want enough to pay off my mortgage. Because if I can do that I'll live pretty comfortably, quietly, happy and satisfied. I'll be able to go to Vegas 3 or 4 times a year, with a bankroll that makes the gambling sessions plentiful and fun!

You see, I don't want to change, and coming upon lots of money way, way beyond your normal lifestyle will change you. Some people for the worse. I feel I'll be one of them.

Then there's the multitudes of leeches that will come out of the woodwork; relatives, friends, and "financial advisers" that you've never heard or seen before, all with their fricken hands out.

If I can win 80 thousand or so I'll be able to pay off the mortgage, be rent free and with the money I have now I'll live happily, quietly, and comfortably.

I know, foolish and stupid but it is what I really want.
