Thought this might make a fun thread......if you won the lottery, how often would you go to Vegas, where would you stay, what would you do?

For the sake of discussion, let's assume you won a very big lottery, like $25 million after tax. (Don't want people being overly responsible here!)

As for what I'd do....I'd first start with having a short list of my best friends, so whenever I got the urge for a spontaneous trip, I'd be able to find 2 or 3 people able to accompany me on short notice, all expenses paid of course. Personally, I'd probably go AT LEAST once per month for the rest of my life, or until I got tired of it anyways!

I doubt I'd get overly carried away with spending. A regular commercial flight would be fine (maybe upgrade to business, but we don't have much options out of Canada). Limo at the airport of course, fully stocked fridge and snacks as I'd want to keep this on call 24 x 7 during my visit. Nice room at the Cosmo with a fountain view, also pre-stocked with drinks and snacks.

And from that point on, I think for me it would be more or less the same as any other Vegas visit. I'd go for much higher end meals now and then, but that's not really my scene, I'm just as happy having a nice burger, fries, and a shake. Gambling, I would gamble more time-wise, but don't see much point in gambling massively higher dollar-wise (you're still going to lose, losing more doesn't seem more fun to me). Basically, just walk around, take in all the sights and smells, and see where fate takes you on any given day.

The biggest benefit would just be being able to go far more frequently, and being able to treat a variety of friends to a fun weekend of being spoiled rotten without a care in the world!

I don't need a lot to be happy. I think I can live comfortably if I won $5 million. :poke:

I don't know if I would change a lot. Yes, coming from Hawaii I would probably fly first class instead of the cattle car. In vegas I may consider staying on the strip but I think I will still gamble downtown. I may up my bets from red chips to green. Not sure if I would eat at the expensive places, I will probably eat at one or two nice restaurants more.

Actually for me I think I would travel the world more with my newfound money. At least I could retire already.

I will be in vegas next week and I keep hoping that I win the megabucks so I can retire already. Sick and tired of work, even though I'm planning on retiring by the end of the year I wish I could get out now since I can't stand working here already.

For me, probably about the same # of trips. 6 - 8 per year. I would still stay at MSS. I have no desire to go to the Strip. Been there, done that 30+ years ago. It is not desirable to us no matter how much money we had.

Only a slight change to our normal trip would satisfy me. I'd likely stay at Caesars...our go to.

My daily activities wouldn't change a bit. Walk the strip and casino hop... gambling and drinking along the way. My attitude would be a little more carefree since my gambling budget would be easier to manage.

Try a few restaurants I haven't tried. I'd visit more frequently so I wouldn't feel the need to hit the same ones I do on my one trip a year. Probably 3-4 visits a year. Stay a day or two longer as well.

Maybe take a few day trips I've never experienced. Play golf more frequently... don't always play when I'm there. Feel the need to do vegas things when I get to visit!

Up my video poker denomination too

Funny that I was getting gas the other day and I saw they now sell $30 lottery scratcher tickets. I thought to myself that even if I wont the lottery, i would not buy one.

Really have no idea. I'd like to think that its affect on how I vegas would be more about having the time than having the money. Hotels may go slightly more reliably upscale, but probably still the base room.

But mostly I would go more frequently and more spontaneously.

Hmm...maybe buy a house in Summerlin or some place as one of my "homes". Or maybe own a place in Veer Towers or the like. Then, when I visit I'll have a place of my own. I can live like a local. I'd maybe do the same at one or two other places around the country/world. Travel and leisure would become my pastime if the amount I won were large enough.

You are correct that $25 million is a better figure. My cousin won $5 million and it didn't change the way he lived other than retiring right away, getting a bigger house, and golfing in Scotland once and the Carolinas every winter.

First, I would move to Washington, which we are trying to accomplish anyway. From there, we can get to Vegas much more easily than we can now. I would go maybe 4 times annually instead of once, and would fly First Class. In Vegas, I would get the best seats to shows, would move up my average bet enough to stop having to scrounge for comps, and most of all, would pig out big time at high end eateries.

I would not buy a condo or house except possibly as an investment.

I would also throw a honking big party for a number of kind and generous friends who like to visit Las Vegas.

I have to say that our travel to places other than Vegas would increase and improve more than what we do in Vegas.

I'd go once or twice per year instead of my every two or three years that I currently do. Obviously price wouldn't be much of a concern so I'd splurge every now and then and get some really nice rooms, but I wouldn't do it all the time. I may not have a home base hotel anymore, I'd probably try some nicer places, even if I'm just getting the basic, but probably.... most likely.... definitely would splurge to at least get strip view each time. Meals wouldn't change too much for me. I'd still probably go to the quicker and less expensive restaurants. Maybe I'd do more shows. I'd gamble more because I'd still want to get comps!

But first, we do the DisneyLand AND DisneyWorld trips with the kids. And maybe go to Hawaii once per year. Wait, Vegas once per year and Hawaii once per year. I'm rich enough, I don't have job constraints, I could do one or two more quick weekend trips instead of planning a 4-6 day stay.

    Now you've got me dreaming!

wouldn't change much except for travel. a 6 hour flight from hartford isn't all that much fun but it's the only non stop available.
might look into a ticket on one of the private jet companies if it wasn't too outrageous

I would plan more trips, I only go once per year. I would have to stay at Venetian or Wynn once just to see what it is like at those places. I think I could convince wife to go twice a year (one trip with the kids and their wives), a father and sons trip around March Madness a trip with friends and at least one solo trip.

I already to too often (3-4 times a year). I think I would gamble more and do more outlandish things with my money while there.

Pay all my bills, so I don't carry a balance or owe any money.

Take 1 million and put it in a High Yield CD account for my 1 year old son. Let that sucker collect interest for 18 or so years.

I would buy a wrap around Terrace suite in the Cosmo as an investment property put it out on AIRBNB available to rent. And whenever I'm in in town have it for personal or family use. Hopefully the rental income should be sufficient to pay for the morgage itself.

I would than buy 1 nice and big apartment complex in southern california where I live and collect rent off those units and hopefully again pay for the morgage solely from rental income..

Depending on how the rental properties do, I would acquire more in California and more in Las Vegas as I see fit.

I would only go to Vegas 3-4 times a year, and do the same things I usually do while I'm in town. Eat,shop, shows, drinks, maybe gamble.

Needless to say, if I ever won $25mill... I would never go broke. I'm not a big spender.

My trips to Vegas would not change, I would still do maybe one or two trips per year, nothing more. Also, I still would not splurge on anything big in Vegas. I am just not that interested.
My lottery money would be spent on something better than Vegas.

I would try to find a new hobby/past time. Having that much money in Vegas is a recipe for disaster - for me. Slot slut to the max would not be good.

Good luck on finding a high yield CD. The best out there right now is around 2.3% for 5 years. But all of this is hypothetical anyway.

Back in the Carter era, I found a bank (Ben Franklin Savings) in Illinois paying 18.6 % on a ten year CD. I had to drive to IL to snatch that one up. The bank was acquired 4 different times and changed names each time in that 10 year span, but never missed an interest payment. FDIC Insured. Of course inflation was also running wild back then also.

I'm different than the others. This would significantly change my Vegas. Would need to discuss with the wife, but ideally I'd buy a condo out there and would travel out for the WSOP with my family and stay for all six weeks. I'd also go out for other major poker tourneys. Basically, I'd turn pro. When going with the family, I'd Likely get a private jet. If just myself for a smaller tourney, then I'd fly first class commercial.

The rest of the time would be non gambling/poker travel with the family. All over the place, especially Europe.
