A couple of members here and I thought it might be a good idea to share ideas on solo trips.

My late April trip coming up is now in question. My best friend from Texas has had a death in the family and has another wedding trip in May, and may not be able to go.

My air tickets are already paid.

Never been to Vegas alone, but when I have gone with her or my husband, they are often off playing poker, or other slots, sleeping, ect, and I am on my own a lot of the time anyway.

But to know I am alone might feel different?

I don't mind traveling alone, have been to Vegas so many times, but things like eating alone and just knowing I am alone is something I have never experienced.

A lot of members here have stated that it is fun to go solo, and there's always people to talk to and meet.

I am very outgoing, love meeting new people, so I can see that part.

Would love to hear other experieces on solo trips if anyone would like to share?

I travel to Vegas solo all the time. I have a lot of fun by myself. Ask for a room near the elevators so you will not have to walk a long hall way to get to your room.
Go to happy hour time at NYNY. You will get to meet people around you if you just say hello to them. Take the local bus every where. Eat at fast food sandwich and salads where lots of singles go to eat and don't even notice me. Coffee cafes are good too. I enjoy eating lunch at restaurants because the menu is less money and I don"t eat much. For dinner I sometimes like to buy me a burger, salad, drink, dessert and I enjoy eating dinner while watching the Vegas news and also read
the Vegas newspaper. Once i am rested I go out again to see the night life on the Strip. In Vegas nobody cares or knows you are by yourself. If any body asks me if I am alone I say "I came with a group of friends". "They are busy doing something else". That has worked for me for many years when I travel any where.

MOST of my trips were solo and LOVED THEM. You have freedom to do AS you wish WHEN YOU WISH.

I want to add that it is normal behavior in Vegas to see lots of single persons eating or drinking by themselves because their partner or friends are too busy gambling.
Or... you might see large families eating at some sandwich shop and they need the extra chairs that are at my table. They are always happy to take the chairs.

I also like to go to the ABC store to buy me juice, snacks, fruits, etc. for my room.
You never know when you will get hungry and be too tired to go out to eat and
prefer to stay in your room and just veggitate and rest. lol lucyR.

Most of my trips are solo. Alone and with people both have pluses and minuses. The nicest thing about a solo trips is the freedom of time. Sleep in or get up early, eat when you want and go where you want. When I go with other people the majority of time you we are not together except for shows and meals, so it's not much different. But if I'm on a roll I don't necessarily want to stop to meet them or if I've lost money and want to go somewhere else or have a snack I have to stay close until they are ready.

I am a bit more security conscious, I don't advertise I'm alone. I will eat at nice restaurants alone. There is so much to look at you aren't board and the staff are usually very nice and chatty with singles. Eat at the bar if a table is uncomfortable.

Take the opportunity to do things your companions may not enjoy such as art museums or shows. I think you'll find it is something you'll want to do again. Some I've gone with won't pay the extra for good seats so my solo trips I splurge on the best seats I can get. And the bathroom is all yours!!

Solo trips can be a lot of fun, but it sounds like the way you do Vegas, you get a lot of the benefits of them on your non solo trips anyway (freedom).

Still, pick a show you'd have to drag your husband kicking or screaming to, eat something he wouldn't eat. The day is yours.

As for the dining thing, that is an anxiety for some people, but eating at the bar makes it feel less awkward, and the bartender will usually chat with you if not busy.

I'm going to LA in August with friends and I'm thinking of doing 2 nights at the end of my trip in Vegas solo (assuming Cosmo keeps sending me that offer - fingers crossed). I have a 5 hour flight to get there so the idea of hitting Vegas while I am already out there is tempting. I've been to Vegas 10 times but never had any solo time there as my husband and I tend to stick together even when we are gambling (at least in the same general area). I figure 2 nights is a good test to see how I like it. I'm excited to be able to do whatever I want whenever I want. I imagine I'll likely grab take out or try room service for the first time as I don't think I'd enjoy dining in the restaurants alone. I'm also an introvert so not interested in chatting up strangers while eating at the bar. Reading about everyone's solo trips has been an inspiration to try it.

It depends on what you normally do on Vegas trips. I like to drink (a lot) and gamble. I thought it would be fun to go on a solo trip to Vegas so I did it a couple years ago in the fall. I. was. so. bored. Nothing was as fun to me as it is when someone else was there. I actually ended up leaving a day early.

When I go with husband or friends, I have no problem splitting up for a bit to go do our own things then meet up in a couple hours. This was waking up in your room alone, deciding what to do on your own, spending the whole day alone, nightlife in Vegas alone, going back to your room alone. Sure, you meet people and talk to people during the day, but it's not the same. This is a huge plus to some people.

It all depends on how you do Vegas and if you would still have fun. If you would still have fun and be able to do everything you wanted to do, absolutely go for it! A lot of people are into it. It just wasn't for me, personally.

I thought of an example. I am playing at a slot machine at the Bellago and an older couple was playing a video poker machine across the aisle from me. They were playing 1 credit (25c) and every hand, talked out their strategy for how to play each hand. I mean like a good 1-2 minutes per hand, pros and cons. It was absolutely hilarious. I told my husband later on the phone and he laughed, but didn't really get how funny it was live. That's when I knew all of the funny stuff in Vegas had to be shared with at least one other person, otherwise it wasn't the same.

Do you like your own company? If you're continually thinking that you have to share an experience with someone else to enjoy it you will not enjoy a solo trip. Personally, I enjoy my LV solo trips more than any other traveling that I do.

Most of my Vegas trips are solo(wife hates Vegas). It is the only place I would consider going solo on a vacation. You have the freedom to do what you want, when you want. Most restaurants have bars where you can eat and strike up a conversation with other solo diners. I gamble at tables, so usually there are people to chat with.

Guessing I wouldn't mind a weekend alone but I generally go for 10 days and doubt I would enjoy it as much without my wife.

Pretty sure she would divorce me if I left her for 10 days and went Vegas alone. We do split up and do our own thing though but we are generally in the same casino etc.

Most of my trips are solo as well, and I find them so much better-you can just do what you want to do whenever you want to!

    Thanks for all the responses!
I know I will miss my husband or my friend, but there is so much to walk and see, and I have always wanted to visit the Mob Museum but no
one else ever wants to, and to sleep as late as I want would be nice.

    I may just do it!
Still hoping my friend can make it, but I love Vegas so much I can see some of the viewpoints here of doing whatever I want.

I can call and facetime people with wins, funny people and things like that.

Maybe a live daily trip report?

Appreciate all the input from everyone!
