Table Games Cranky Margaritaville Craps Dealer - Steve T

Let me preface this by the fact that I have been playing craps for about 20 years and I know the importance and roll "no pun intended" of tipping your dealers. I was playing craps at Flamingo-Margaritaville on Saturday Afternoon. I was tipping a few bucks on the line when I roll, a few 2 way hard ways, etc, which I normally do for the crew. The table finally got hot for two rolls in a roll and I decided to cash out to go watch the basketball game. Steve T, some 70's mustache jerk dealer at the table in my opinion was very rude when I cashed out. Steve T cashed me out and I left him my singles and as I was leaving all I hear is "gee thanks, wow, thanks", "come again", etc etc....I've played enough to know what he was saying. I didn't want to make a scene at the time, but now I wish I did. I understand the expectation to tip dealers, which I did while I was playing and left some at the end. But, I guess that wasn't enough for Steve T. So if you see Steve T, be sure to leave half of your buy-in or he will feel under appreciated.

So should I have told Steve T to pound sand or just walked away like I did? Just wanted to warn fellow board members to be aware of cranky Steve. The other dealers at Margaritaville were fine in my opinion.

As a side note, it is sad what Flamingo is doing to the Margaritaville casino side of things, the tables are only open at night and it just doesn't have the vibe it used to. I know when it started they were making an effort to put top notch dealers there, and I don't think that is the goal anymore.

 

Coincidentally I was there on Saturday as well, although just the gift shop and passing through. But I do agree with your last statement: it was disappointing. While there was literally nothing happening in Margaritaville, the gaming floor a few feet away at Flamingo was busy and thriving.

As for Steve T I probably would have done the same thing as you. He's not your problem and the more guests he pisses off like that, the fewer people will play at his tables.

 

I would drop an email to mgt. at Margaretville and explain to them what a dick Steve T. is. Leaving the dealers singles after a color up is normal and appreciated.

 

You know how hard it is to find an email contact? I've been working on that. Funny thing is I just got a survey to review my Flamingo experience...well that was a fun one to fill out.

Right on. I also complained of a craps dealer at the MSS when I got a survey review in the mail. I mentioned dates, time, and his name.

Of course MSS did not follow up or acknowledge. Now when I play I avoid him if he's dealing or if I'm really hard up I play on the other side of the table.

 

I would have turned around and let him have it. You made bets for the crew (and won some I'm sure) and tipped a few bucks at the end. How much do they tip you when you lose? What pisses me off is dealers like this get the same amount of tips as the friendly, fun dealers.

 

Maybe his dog just died and he was having a terrible day.

 

maybe it is time to retire. you could say something to him, or you could take the high road. either would be ok.

 

Call Flamingo and ask for the casino manager or shift manager.
You probably will get some assistant but you can get the word to management.
You were making bets for them table plus tipped at the end.That is BS and management needs to know.
There were probably not many other people making dealer bets while you were.

Unfortunately you can find surly,unappreciative dealers like him at many places.
I have seen them at MGM,Bellagio,Caesars and others so it's not just where you were..

 

You gotta remember that they had a dead restaurant in there before. That area is an afterthought. That build out was tremendously cheap. They didn't bother to put a restaurant in there and that place had the dregs of the Flamingo's slot machines when it opened. They put some faux trees around the Flamingo's old pillars and called it Margaritaville.

There's no reason for them to have the games open in the day time there when 2/3rd of the Flamingo's floor is closed. If it made sense to run those games all the time, they wouldn't have replaced five of them with beer pong.

 

Ah, I love filling out surveys both when I have good things and bad things to say.

Didn't they remove the Craps table from that area? It used to be right by the door. Is it at a new location?

 

maybe post your experience on their FB page;
we were have tech issues at work - call after call after call - zero response;
manager posted a FB message stating our issues - co's tech called us and had issue resolved in 5 minutes - and then they asked mgr to post an update/retraction of the previous post, which she did;
companies have a low tolerance for neg's on social media;

 

Were the other players tipping as regularly as you? If not, tell Steve to go F himself and take it out on all the players who weren't tipping at all. You did nothing wrong.

 

After twenty years playing it's time to realize that the game is there for you, not for them. Call him out. "Hey Steve, I didn't mean to insult you, give me my chips back so I can give them to the ladies at the cage." Now he has to come back with some made up rule that once a tip has been offered blah blah blah. What is more entertaining in Vegas than a scene? And what's your downside: someone actually makes the effort to ask you to leave a place you are done with?

 

I have been in your situation before and I used to let it go but one dealer was such an asshole at a craps table I just unloaded on him and I mean unloaded not yelling but just putting him in his place. Letting him know how much I tipped and how often to the point that I gave him the percentage of my tipping to my gains. Then I turned it to our table pays your salary to include others at the table so it is sort of a slap in the face to us and I finished off with your real frustration should be pointed to your ceo and his salary and bonus. Since you don't read your 10k's and proxy statements as I do he made this and that and that should really piss you off since he works half as hard as you. The pit boss came over chatted with me and comp me a couple of meals

 

Wrong. He has no right to take it out on anyone. Tipping is not mandatory.

 

All great comments. Yes they did move the craps table on the other side of the bar, closer to the restaurant direction. I do wish I would have made more of a scene, thats the one thing that has bugged me from an overall great trip. Luckily I'm going back in May, and if I see my buddy Steve T, I'll be sure to take a stroll down memory lane.

 

When that craps table first opened at the Margaritaville casino, the dealers were fun, table atmosphere was very relaxed, and it was a $5 table much of the time. I have noticed in the last year that the dealers aren't as friendly as they used to be. They must have transferred some of the Flamingo dealers over (some of the most unfriendly I've dealt with).

 

We visit the Margaritaville casino almost ever day on our trips since my wife's lucky slot machine is located there. I do not like the changes they have made recently and it seems most of the dealers are not as friendly as in the past. Sorry you had to put up with an exceptionally grumpy one.
