NYNY - Run of House

Hey yo! I'm planning on a trip to Vegas this upcoming fall and I'm pondering my options for rooms. We'll likely be staying at NYNY again this year as it is our favorite place. We also want to go on somewhat of a smaller budget (at least for room). So, as I'm investigating prices I see the option for Run of House Room. Sounds like a gamble that could pay off, especially if you aren't picky about rooms at all. I prefer higher floor rooms though.

So, what are your experiences with getting Run of House rooms. What kind of room do you usually get? I'd love to hear about any property that you've tried this for, but especially NYNY since that is where we'll be staying.

Do you luck out and get a suite, or does that ever happen? Strip view? Or is it always low floor, worst view and noisy type rooms?

 

Same here - I'm seeing this option at various Mlife properties. Is it just a luck-of-the draw, or how are rooms typically assign for "Run of House?"

 

From what I understand you get what is available and you may luck out and get an upgraded room. What I want to know is, what are the odds of this happening? I'm hoping to hear from people who have experienced this.

If you went during a high occupancy period and checked in late you might have a chance to grab something up a grade if all the "regular" rooms are filled first. Or just the opposite. If getting a better rate for taking RotH, why not plan on trying the 20$ trick at check-in? Let us know how it goes.

 

I don't know. I'm a bumbling idiot. I'll probably slip them the $20 and then work my way into paying regular rate for a suite and then walk away realizing I accidentally slipped them $100!

It all depends on when we go. If I'm going to my regular conference, then I'm on company coin and I'll just book a nicer room. If I don't get to go to the conference, which I suspect is the case, then we want to save costs on room.

You'll generally get the lowest classification of room they have. Lower floor, older tower, limited/no view. This goes for anyplace with such a designation. If you're traveling solo and/or not trying to impress somebody you'll be fine.....except in situations where construction is happening. I would probably ask to be put on the Excal side rather than be looking towards MC

 

"Run of the House" is a marketing term that casinos used a lot in the past. It seems to be making a resurgence. It really doesn't mean anything.

Thanks everyone for the feedback - much appreciated. The term "you get what you pay for" certainly seems to apply here... I think I'd be better off with just booking the room I'd prefer and not leaving it up to them.

 

Haha! You haven't met me! Unless I feel like I'm being shortchanged, I'm not good with asking for something. I'd make it awkward and screw it up!

 

I always book Run of the House at the Monte Carlo and never had a problem getting the room that I wanted... Usually a high floor king. Never tried for a suite but maybe I'll give it a shot this trip. I'm guessing a better chance at this wold be Sun-Thurs.

I've never done the $20 trick. I'm just really nice and patient with the agent.
But again, I've not asked for a big upgrade like a suite...Just a high floor and strip view.

 

The more I think about it, I'm just going to book Run of House and try to be friendly and jovial with the agent and hope for the best. Until my last trip I never had a strip view before and I tell you, that one trip spoiled me. I was totally willing to pay for a Strip View room at NYNY because NYNY is cheaper than many places, but my wife was all like, "We're going on a budget! We just need a room". And she's right. We don't need a strip view, but higher floor is definitely my preference.

I never had any luck with run of the house rooms at circus circus...Im mostly solo so to me this is just a way of getting a crappy room and saving a few bucks....I wouldnt expect any upgrades...Labor day weekend they stuck me in a ADA room.....Ithe whole bathroom was like a big shower and the shower head is made for someone in a wheelchair, so I had to bend down to wash my upper half. they did put me in a standard room the next day....

 

ROH gets you in a room at the hotel of your choosing. Nothing more. I would seriously think to be upgraded from ROH at CC you would need to specify (and pay for) a Tower room, which I've heard are actually pretty good
