    Hoya,

Really enjoyed the report and pictures! Thanks for sharing. I am DYING to get to Vegas, but with son graduating and heading to College and another turning 16 and wanting a truck, it looks like a LONG wait until I get back. The reports help me enjoy Vegas vicariously.

Enjoyed the pics! The shot of you and Dane by the fountain at Paris is a great one.

Nicely done, Hoya! Too bad we couldn't meet up. Your room looked pretty sweet--wonder what PH will do to them...

Thanks for the comments! I will pass on all the photo comments to hubby, as he took most of the photos this trip--he just got a new digital camera--not a massively fancy one, but it does have a zoom lens, which mine does not--nice added feature! Joe--I haven't heard that PH has plans for the rooms--I know Starwood upgraded the beds already, but the furnishings aren't really mideastern styled, so it really shouldn't be a problem. I hope they don't mess with the rooms--I really do like them the way they are:thumbsup:

2: Heather--we didn't pay for Mon Ami Gabi so I don't know the bill total. Wine by the glass was $7-$15. French onioin soup was $7.50 and my mussels were ~$18. I think the steaks were in the low $20s and came with a HUGE side of frites. While the view of the fountains is lovely, the atmosphere is classic bistro--which is to say, rather loud, tables crowded, etc. We had a great time, but for future visits it would not be my first choice for traditional "romance". Binions was virtually EMPTY. We sat at a table, window-side, but the other side of the aisle had semi-round booths that looked VERY cozy. Very dark & intimate (it was a Tuesday night, so who knows if it gets loud & crowded on the weekends) The booths were somewhat elevated, so you still got the view of the valley despite not being up against the window. Of the two, I'd choose that for romance, though there are SOOO many choices for romances, esp. if you have a car and could go anywhere.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the info, Hoya. Wasn't there another upscale restaurant downtown that is your favorite for a nice dinner? Can't remember the name but recall you mentioning it over the years...

We had two really good meals at Great Moments Room, a good meal at Center Stage, and a really good meal at Redwood Grill. All meals were before Barricks took over Vegas Club & Plaza and reviews since then have not been nearly as good. Haven't heard any similar decline at Redwood Grill (not owned by Barrick), so maybe that's the ticket:thumbsup: We had a corner wrap around booth, near the pianist so we had soft dinner music. Wasn't too loud (except occasionally, there was a very amusing scene playing out across from us where a host was trying to entertain a table full of Hawaiian whales whose facial expressions NEVER changed...) I think if I had to make a recommendation for downtown now, based solely on places I've eaten, I'd say Redwood Grill.....

Bummer about the upstairs bar. We went there a month ago. Its our favorite place to catch the football games. Comfortable tables and chairs. Are they planning on reopening it as it was or are they changing everything?

It's my understanding they're changing everything in the casino, also changing the restaurants and updating the buffet too, but I assume they will have some sort of bar/lounge since they're trying to cater to a music-loving demographic with all the concerts they're getting in....Although we asked about the buffet & the restaurants & the registration desk, we didn't ask anyone about the lounge so I don't have any specific news about that. I'm pretty sure that most of the casino renovations are to open up the casino and get more floor space (which is why they're creating a floor where the open area & escalators to the lower lobby used to be) so I could envision the bar/lounge being more "tucked away" instead of taking up so much floor space. However, as of when we left, the poker room and high limit slots (which are under that bar/lounge) were still open, with tiny encased doors to get in--so at least they're not demolishing that structure yet.....

That's scary Terry...you and I think wayyyy to much alike...lol

I know what you mean about the construction and walls going up..the same thing was happening to us at the Mirage last Sept.... a new wall and/or things moved around every morning. I've heard they've pretty much wrapped all of that up now though.

Awesome photos (Hoya and Hub)...I had no idea the rooms there were so nice. Tks for the persistence in making them viewable :) Dino

We're an old married couple and there was a king-sized bed in the room. The only prints on the window were nose-prints from trying to see further north or south on the Strip...:haha:

I'm lucky I remembered we wanted to take lots of room photos because we took the pictures as soon as we got into the room, before our luggage and wet bar were spread out all over the place and Hubby flipped the loveseat around so it looked OUT the windows instead of into the room....Housekeeping kindly left it that way until we vacated the room, too:thumbsup:

Finally got the chance to look at your pictures - very nice. Someone seems slightly obsessed with the Bellagio Bell tower though ;)

I wonder how it is possible to miss Vegas so much when I was just there a few days ago?

I probably could have edited that photo collection a little more, but I was in a hurry....:haha: The bell tower was straight across the window from our room, so I guess it was easy to photograph:rolleyes2:

Hoya...I hear you, we're pretty much in the same "old married cpl" category.. most of the time :ssst: but Vegas can entice a person to be naughtier than usual. :wink2: I just had to laugh tho cuz when we stayed at the Wynn in Sept, there were hand prints on the floor to ceiling windows of our room when we checked in... it was the first thing that came to my mind! I did ask them to clean the windows. So...did lil sis like Vegas or? We have some freinds that just went for the first time and they came back with a take it or leave it feeling and they love to gamble. I just don't think we'll ever get tired of Las Vegas... but we do it differently than some folks.... lotsa pool time relaxing, always use the spa area to get a work out in, eat good, drink a little and gamble a lot. All that and usually to bed by 11... we are old huh?:rolleyes2:

We are staying at the Alladin 3-4/3-9, I upgraded to a resort room, last year we had a deluxe room with a fountain view, but when I was booking my trip I was easily pursuaded into an upgrade to a resort room, I see you had a resort vista but said the only difference was the bathroom was bigger and I know you also get the view and tv from the tub which would be cool.

I loved your pictures, your camera is great, the day time and night shots were just as clear!

I see you were there for the taping of CSI, we were there when they were doing the pilot for Las Vegas and thought who is that guy in the yellow mustang and didn't really care, but now that we have seen the show we love it and I wished I knew that and cared when they were taping the pilot and how cute Josh Hamill is!

vegas vacation: I think the Resort room is a good choice. So far we have stayed in the Deluxe, Resort and Resort Vista and we took a look in the Strip Suite. On future trips we will go for the Resort room or right on up to a Panorama Suite.

The Resort room has a lot of bang for the buck. Large bathroom with separate toilet room & soaking tub and a lot of room to have guests over (with a sofa and a couple of chairs so there is somewhere to sit). There are two big windows so you get a better view than with the Deluxe room. A very impressive room for the money with a great layout.

The Resort Vista had great views with the curved wall of windows providing views up and down the strip. The room is about the same size as the Resort but half of it is bathroom. The living sleeping area is a bit small with little room for guests. When we arrived the only seat (a love seat) was turned facing inward so there was nowhere to sit and enjoy the view. The big soaking bathtub next to the window was great. One downside was that the safe is on the floor of the closet (If you can get a suite should you have to get on your knees for your gambling money???).

The Strip Suite is even larger but has a crazy layout. First, there is no door on the huge bathroom and the open door faces the bed so there is no way to get ready without waking the other person. The bedroom area has a big window but the living/seating area has no windows and is a dark hole. There is no place to sit and enjoy the view.

Nice report Hoya, sounds like a great time. I love the pictures, tell Dane . Haven't made it through all of them yet, but eventually I will. So you think Melissa will want to go back?
