I don't understand "reviews" like the Redwood one. It just tells you what they have but doesn't tell you what (if anything) was ordered or how it TASTES! I appreciate your links each week Westie. But many/most of the reviews are just basically press releases. In a real restaurant review the critic visits more than once (often with other people so a wide variety of food can be ordered), the reviewer tells you about MANY different dishes, reviews the service, etc...

I hear what what you are saying and I probably erred by including that one since it is questionable whether she ever dined there. There are not a lot of independent restaurant critics in Las Vegas with Curtas and Heidi being the main ones. Michael Uzmann was pretty independent initially, but he seems to be getting a little too cozy with many of the chefs of late. Max Jacobson was probably the best, but he was seriously injured a few years back and has never fully recovered.

Some critics get too wrapped up in being "known" and then they lose credibility. The only way to really judge the food and service is to dine anonymously. Visit more than once. Try a variety of dishes...

But again I appreciate your weekly links

I agree, I very much enjoy the weekly Westie restaurant reviews. I particularly like the reviews from endoedibles.

I appreciate Westie's reviews simply because it shows all the potential places out there to visit.

But I understand what vegasvic is saying in regards to Redwood. Wasn't really a review.

I just got back from Vegas and we drove all over the valley and I'm simply amazed at all the eateries that you can find in countless strip malls.....

These are lots better than those so-called reviews in the in-room mags!

I am always looking for additional sources for restaurant reviews, so could you tell me what in-room mags you are referring to?

Those What's On and the like. Incredibly obvious shill reviews of the places that buy ads in said publication. I figured that out in the era of the Lobster This Big and the Steak This Thick ads. :)

I was kind of using that term in the generic sense.
