Dick's Last Resort

Can anyone share a recent experience, good or bad, at Dick's Last Resort in Excalibur? I realize the food isn't of gourmet quality, but how was the experience overall? I'm thinking of visiting with my family (teenager and pre-teen included) next month.

You need thick skin! I ended up wearing a hat, made out of construction paper, that said "My {line drawing of a cat} smells like {line drawing of a fish}!"

 

Anyone that brings their cat to a restaurant is going to be made fun of. Oh...wait...

 

Anyone who goes there, period, is gonna be made fun of.

 

I'm sure Dick's Last Resort is a novel experience for some people. I live in New Jersey, however, so that's like my typical experience at any restaurant.

 

I've always wondered...are you allowed to give it right back to them? Or do you get kicked out because the abuse is only a one way street?

 

You can joke around with them. Just remember, anything you say or do WILL be held against you!

One of the guys in our party said something like "Just gimme the coldest beer you got and the largest one you got" and they gave him this huge honking mega-wino-size bottle of something like Old Milwaukee in a bucket of ice that looked like a mop bucket.

Technically we did get kicked out I guess. After everyone was done he came back and threw the check on the table and said something like "We need the table! Now pay your flippin bill and get out!"

 

Gotcha. My smack is a little more severe/personal than that, so I probably wouldn't have made it through the meal.

 

My guess is they've heard it all and have very snappy one-up comebacks for just about everything. Kinda like this exchange I remember from Ed Debevic's many years ago:

Waitress: Now I'm not taking that until you eat all of your peas!
Tablemate: Who are you, my mother?
Waitress: No, but you're old enough to be mine!

 

Some of the servers use this forum to just be obnoxious....not always funny. Can be fun if you have the right server ....the food was sorely lacking for the price. They sell the experience more than the food. Not for everyone....

 

I've heard it get pretty vulgar at Dicks. It doesn't bother me but think of the kids.

 

Debevic's in Chicago, I been there. we were young, one person in our party made a horrible scene. much worse than the rude banter. they didn't have to throw me out. I walked out willingly with my face down.

 

Not related to the restaurant but I wish the casino I work in had a put themed like Dicks, we would love to give it back to the players.

 

I haven't been there in a while (no real reason to go to the Ex anymore) but I always thought Dick's was a hoot. If you want to be more or less left alone (i.e. not made to wear a silly hat) just sit at the bar. I love to people watch though and it's prime PW'ing in there. Food is better than it has to be, certainly not gourmet but good standard comfort food and big portions.

Definitely worth the detour if you're on the south end of the strip anyway.

 

Ed's used to be a fun place! Surprisingly good food too. I dunno if you know, but it closed a year or so ago.

They also used to have one up by Deerfield. It was not nearly as earthy as the original and it did not last very long.

 

Haven't been to the one in Excalibur yet, but went to the one in Myrtle Beach and she made me a hat that said I'm so small I piss on my balls, Haven't been back since.
She also made one for wife with pic of two saggy boobs that said Gravity Sucks.

We had a good time with the experience, but overall the food is OK, nothing great about it. Would I go back ?? Probably, I like the atmosphere ¡!
