The host in OP's story didn't lie or tried to trick OP.
If you want to call it misunderstanding, fine. And it's not even on the host's side.

Actually, I have had this happen on a couple rare occasions at mlife properties, but my host always made clear that he was going to apply my EC before he did it.

This is a pretty good summary of the whole situation. I think its a bit much to say the host "lied". Clearly, there was a misunderstanding, as the host and the OP had different thoughts on how those charges we being handled. But as many have pointed out, the host didn't do anything unusual. Its just unfortunate that he did not make it clear to the OP what he was doing.

Exactly, that's why I asked the OP what his history with CET was, and his history with that particular host.

For example, when I've spoken with a host on duty about reviewing my play, they typically mention that they have to apply my RCs first.

But if I ask my assigned host, who I've dealt with numerous times, to look at my bill, she does not mention that she will be zeroing my RCs along with any other back end comps. I know that she has to do this, and she knows that I know this as well.

My hosts at Mirage and MB tell me if they are going to use ECS first. Just be honest with me.

As the saying goes, expectations only leads to disappointment.
Most of my trips (figure about a dozen) have been at PH with this host.
Figure 2 trips a year so about 5 years.
Usually I have around 2,000 reward credits and yes he has used them in the past but in the past he would tell me he was using them and even say he was going to use some of my wife's points if we had a large number of room charges.
So, my first expectation was that he would tell me.
Usually the 2,000 reward credits used would be plenty to cover the bill and about $150+ in room charges on top of the resort fee.
I recently acquired the TR Credit Card and got 10,000 Reward Credits.
So, my second expectation was that this would last me a few trips.
If he normally only takes 2,000 reward credits and comps the resort fee and over $150 worth of room charges then taking 12,000 reward credits to cover the resort fee and only $55 worth of room charges is a bit excessive.
After thinking about it, the real issue is that over the 5+ years 2,000 reward credits and my play would cover the resort fees and up to $300 worth of room charges but now the entire 12K worth of reward credits was used to cover only $55 worth of charges and then say "I picked up the charges".

A similar thing happened to me last year. I had the formula I was using, and attempted to have (what I had calculated to be) about $500 in charges (including the room taken care of on the backend.

I had about 12,000 in RCs and had put in 5200TC over 3 days

My host said "I can, but you would be marked as overcomped"

    I explained:

I’m not arguing, I’m just trying to figure out how I’m calculated as “overcomped”.
I racked up about 5200 TC over the three days.
According to the formula that I had been using.
    5200/2 = 2600 theo
    2600 * 30% = $780 comp value
    Less $360 for the room = $420
Less about $120 in RC comps first, should have covered $500 in meal comps.

    He came back with:

"Your total theo for the trip was 1736 and comp rates in the augustus tower are now $196.01 per night ($588.03 total)
The room rates changed 2 weeks ago which you couldn’t have known."

So, the comp formula had changed. Admittedly, I was using the Reno formula, which is apparently different, and they changed the comp rate from $120 a night to $200 a night

I would suggest that something similar has happened to OP.

I think a phone call or email asking for a more detailed explanation would be warranted. Explain to your host what you though, and how it turned out different than you expected.

This is the incident that "drove" me out of Caesars Palace and into Harrahs.

The fine print on my upcoming stay with $100 Resort Credit actually stated that RC can/will be used to cover the Resort Credit. I am just considering it a back end comp with a minimum even if I don't cover it. I will keep and eye on it and maybe even use the RC before I leave if I have any.

My concern with The OP is to make sure the your RC taken were not more than what he picked up for you.

I think what it boils down to is that the host must use any available RCs, up to the amount that he is removing from the bill, before any backend comps can be applied. Because of your increased RC balance from the TR Visa, you had more RCs put towards your bill, and used less of your earned back end comps.

If you have 20k RCs (equal to $200), and your play earned you $200 in available back end comps, and your final bill is $200, the host must use those 20k RCs to zero out your bill, thereby leaving you with $200 worth of unused back end comps. Sucks but that's how CET does it.

That's why many players, if they know that their play alone generated enough comps to cover their bill without using RCs, will often spend those RCs or convert them to freeplay, before having their host review their play. This helps minimize the amount of back end comps they are "leaving on the table."

In any event, I'd get on the phone with your host, ask for his explanation, then maybe express your disappointment at how this all went down. Officially, unused back end comps do not rollover to your next trip, but since you have a relationship with this host, maybe he can help you out a bit more on your next visit, perhaps with some tickets or extra resort credit up front. Hosts do have a certain bit of wiggle room at their discretion.

(Or you can confront him, demand a refund, then tell him to go fuck himself, as another poster suggested. Perhaps that method of dealing with people works better for some.)

I really think we leave back end comps on the table most of the time (and our host gets on us for it), however my wife loves to eat at Planet Daley's and it doesn't mess with her stomach. We have lately had one really nice meal but the rest is the usual Planet Daley fare, this is why we now use free play at the end of the stay (making sure, as I said before our play is good). We also now try and see one show minimum per trip from our "discretionary fund".

It's how CET operates. Happened to my gf at the paris. We had about $80 in room charges and the resort fees. We went in to the host office and he said "no Problem I'll pick up all of the charges for you". We get home and all of my gf's rc's are gone. We were like that MF'er. She had close to $100 in rc's so on a 2 night stay he only took care of some of the resort fees. Get used to it cause this is what they do.

So it looks like theo is TC/3. Damn much worse.

    5208/3= 1736theo
    1736 * 30%= 520 comp
    520comp - 588 room = OC'ed

Is each Cet prop different? or do all used the new formula?

I don't have a host at CET and I throw in the same amount of cash in there as I do at VP and other properties. Time to move on.

Yep, I have 300 in status dollars lol. He's giving me a limo and 4 nights comped. Going to see if he'll honor my $300 in free play and $50 in resort credit for the trip in April. I really want to try pH, but beyond AC, CET doesn't really offer me value.

Sorry to highjack your thread OP. Didn't mean to turn this into a CET vs the world thread.

I believe that it is locale dependent. I haven't asked my host in Reno/Tahoe what my ADT has been since they used to not count checkout day if you don't swipe.

Just remember that when you use your tier credits to figure our coin in, you first need to back out any bonus tier credits you get. You can't say I started with 5k TC and ended with 8k TC, so my coin in is 3k * 5 = 15k coin in, mostly likely you coin in is really under 10k with the daily tier bonuses.

And when they are figuring comps they need to remove BS charges like Resort Fees. :wink2:

Here is some updated info from the host.....

"We have to use any Reward Credits if available....

As for the comps and the way we issue many times its based on occupancy levels of the hotel and business demands. Recently we have seen a large increase in visitor volume which has enabled the hotel to charge more for rooms which has increase the comp rate that the casino gets charged when we comp a room. "

Although it all makes sense, it doesn't mean I have to like it.
Thanks for all the replies. Geesh, I am now wishing the economy tanks so the comps get better. :)

VERY high occupancy rates right now. One of the wedding guests waited too long to book their room. Night they were going to come in Ballys is totally booked. No room at the inn!! They are driving so they will come in a day later instead & did manage to be able to use the Friends coupon I received in a Christmas card. So not surprising that paid & comp rates are higher. All about supply & demand!

I guess I have just been aware of using RCs first for a long time now. One trip it worked well in my favor & I received the rest of my charges comped. The next I had a rude host who went 'It is what it is'. I'll try again this next time. Never hurts to ask.

    Easter again..:
