Arrived back home and contacted my host and asked what we owe.

His reply was : "I picked up the charges."

Today I noticed my 12,000 reward credits are gone.

To me, "I picked up the charges." implies nothing is owed or expected.

What does "I picked up the charges." mean to you?

That's sleezy. Time for a new host...and let him/her know that full disclosure is paramount.

If this is CET/TR we're talking about, then that's typical protocol for hosts to use your RC's first. Most people don't know and most if not all the hosts would not tell people this. I find it quite sleezy and sneaky. As a rule of thumb, I always try to convert as much as my RC's as I can into FP the night before I check out. Then convert the FP into slot play and save them. After a few trips, this adds up.

Means you still pay for the tips you charged to me. The way described it is more like "Let me get the check" and upon returning to the table from the cashier I hand you your credit card.

I can only comment in regards to CET. If this was at a CET property, that is standard operating procedure. RC balances are zeroed out before any additional backend comps are applied.

For this reason, if you know your play was enough to cover your room and room charges, it's a good idea to spend your RCs in the gift shop or convert them to FP before having your host review your tab.

That's shady. If a host told me that they picked up the charges, I'd assume your credit card and RCs weren't charged as they were comped. I think he should have said, "I used your RC to cover the balance."

I don't think you can say this without knowing the dollar amount that was covered, since OP didn't include that info.

12k RCs equals $120....if the room charges were equal to $120, then I agree that the host could have worded it better and said "your RCs covered your bill."

But if the room charges were $1k, than the RCs just covered a small percentage of that, then his wording would have been fine, as he did in fact pick up almost $900 of the tab.

Have you had much experience with CET properties? How about with this host in particular?

If the answer to both of those questions is Yes, then I would assume that the host probably had a reasonable expectation that you "knew the drill." CET has been zeroing out RC accounts before additional back end comps for at least several years now. This isn't news or at all surprising to anyone who regularly plays at CET.

Here are some round about numbers.
    Hotel Bill : $155
    Reward Credits : 12,000+
    Tier Score : 2,200+

If I estimate right, the Tier Score indicates about a 10K coin in.
If so, I figure that alone should cover a $155 bill.

It would and it used to. But they are serious about using RCs first. He would have probably picked up a decent amount of room charges but he is supposed to take the RCs first.

It depends on what kind of room you were staying In, because at CET your play needs to cover the room first.

A fountain view room in the Augustus Tower comps out at $200 per might, and a non-fountain view room comps out at $140 a night

By my calculations (and I'm only 90% sure on this), if your a slot player your TCs would amount to about $330 in comp value BEFORE the cost of the room. Using round numbers, if you stayed 3 nights in a $100 room, that would leave you with $30 that could be applied on the backend.

It means you need to call him back up on the phone then confront him about it. See if you get a reimburse for those credits then tell him he can go f**k himself!
Remember he gets paid salary also gets bonus based on your Theo (least MGM hosts does) so don't feel bad

I disagree, because that is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) at CET.

It's supposed to be a "known fact", but many people are surprised at the first time they hear about it.

You need to factor in the room as well. Even if it was comped up front, you still need to cover, or "play out of", the comp rate (not rack rate) of the room itself, before you can earn any backend comps. This rate can obviously vary greatly based on days of the week, property, and type of room.

Standard rooms (not suites) at nicer properties on the strip can easily have a comp rate of $100 or more on weekends.

Assuming you played slots, you probably had a theo around $1000. Figure you get about $300 back in the form of comps.

Where did you stay, room type, how many nights?

DaiLun beat me to it, but this is exactly what I was thinking. I'm not endorsing the practice. Its just standard for CET and has been for years. No real surprise here

To me all trying figure credit out doesn't mean anything..... like you said "host told you he picked up the bill" and for him to hit you with credits that's shady... if he was going to then he will have drop you a line or call you back.
