Hi! My wife and I are doing a four night getaway in early October. It's our first vacation since having a baby a year ago so we are really looking forward to the rest and relaxation! We went to Vegas in 2011 and had a blast. We stayed at the MGM and liked it but thought the location was a little less than ideal. We are looking for suggestions for this go around. Here is what is important to us (in no order): 1. Quiet Rooms: At MGM we heard an instance of domestic abuse in the next room which lead us to call security. We really are looking to avoid loud rooms/thin walls. Does this take out the Mirage from consideration? 2. Location: We would like to be in a centralized location. We loved visiting Mandalay Bay but it is so far away from everything. We were unhappy with the MGM location and that was better than Mandalay. 3. Pool area: We would like to have a cool pool at the hotel. My wife would like a tropical feeling, but Mandalay and Mirage have the above mentioned shortcomings. Are there any other pools that you would suggest are being cool/unique? We also are not looking for party central. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Quiet rooms..... there is no way to guarantee this no matter where you stay. Neighbors from hell can happen anywhere. Whether it's a cheap room or an expensive room you can get loud people next to you or above you. If you want to avoid noise in the hallway then get a room farther down the hall away from the elevators. Suites are also better for this as your bed won't be close to the hallway as it is in a regular room. If you didn't like the MGM location then Mirage is an alternative. Decent place, nice pool area. MBAY has a great pool but as you said it's farther south so if you didn't like MGM location then you won't like MBAY. Personally I love MBAY's location. Less walk in traffic means less crowds, I love that. Caesars has a great pool. Prime location too. Also as an FYI, the more descriptive the thread title the more people will read it. Generic thread titles get less attention in general.
For nice pool areas and top hotels I would look at Mirage, Cosmo or Caesars. They have the central location and are top notch properties. What kind of price range are you looking for and what type of amenities other than the pool are you wanting??? There are so many great options, we have never stayed at Cosmo but it looks great for a younger couple and we stay at Planet Hollywood we love it and our youngest daughter and her husband love it too. It has a very young vibe at night....though the pool area is pretty blah it does have a flo-rider and a big deck area with an outside bar area. We are big Aria fans. It has become our home base over the last several years. It has two pools for the main hotel, nothing to special about them, but we find them to be perfect for us. We also really like the casino. Mostly craps players, with a few slots thrown in every now and again. We find the selection of games to be good and like the layout of the floor and the felts. Great food at various price points. We like the location, as it is closer to center than MGM. The beds are extremely comfortable and have never really had any noise issues.
Thank you both for the tips. We would like to keep the prices under about $250 per night, which I guess takes out Wynn & Encore, Venetian & Palazzo, and Bellagio. We really don't place much importance on any other amenities because outside of a clean room as we can obviously eat, gamble, shop or be entertained at any property.
I would have to agree with vegasvic in that no matter what hotel you stay at, you can face a rowdy neighbor, and I think McCarran County building code specifies thin hotel walls! : ) I am in agreement with Its Only Money in recommending Aria. I have stayed there a few times, most recently this past January. Location is great, and I think it offers a great vibe, without being overly loud or obnoxious. While the pool may not be "tropical" it is very nice, and they have an adult only pool.
Quietest rooms in your budget are probably Cosmo or Vdara due to the rooms being larger meaning less change for hearing your neighbors. Vdara would be about the same as Cosmo in terms of room quality, Vdara feels more like a studio apt where as cosmo is more luxury hotel feel. Aria is also nice but the smaller rooms allow for more noise. I personally love both, Cosmo is more of an all in one resort where as Vdara is just a standard hotel with very nice rooms. I always sleep with earplugs in vegas because there is always the chance for noise, it's just a fact of life when you're in an area with lots of drinking and partying.
Thanks everyone for the input. Went with a Resort Tower King room at the Mirage. Location and the pool plus the floor- dedicated elevators overtook my concern about noise.
I stayed at Mirage three times and never had a problem with a good night's rest. However, I was about to go ballistic at a next door neighbor (8-10 of them) once at Aria. So, it has nothing to do with the property as many mentioned. It's just pure luck, whoever happens to be your neighbors. You will enjoy Mirage, it's my favorite property on the Strip. Though I selected different properties for my next trip, as Mlife sucked in terms of price/value for that specific time period.
I would suggest Vdara. Because it's non-smoking and non-gaming, and somewhat inset from Las Vegas Blvd within the City Center complex, it's a popular choice among people who would rather avoid a party hotel. That said, it's still a short walk to the Aria and the Cosmo when you want to engage in shenanigans, and their pool area (I haven't been) looks lovely based on the photos. Bonus, even the basic rooms have kitchenettes! That's because they initially intended for the building to be a condo complex before the real estate crash. I think the décor could be fairly described as 'budget luxury'-- it ain't the Wynn, but it's not the Luxor either.
It seems you booked Mirage, which is a great choice. As others mentioned above I would have said Vdara too.
+1 for Vdara centrally located on the strip. Rooms are high quality. And I've always had quiet neighbors at Vdara. People who tend to stay here want to get away from the smoke/action of a casino hotel so they tend to be quieter. But maybe thats just my assumption. No clubs, so no loud music.
