A lot of drunks, but not a lot of arrests

For all the drunk people I see in Vegas, I don't hear about a lot of arrests. Is it because the cops and security know how to handle them? Or is it because tourists are happy drunks and most don't get belligerent?. Have you or any of your friends been arrested?

 

Vegas was built on partying they have no desire to kill the golden goose. If word got out they were arresting people left and right for public drunk their tourism trade would probably suffer mightily

 

God protects fools, drunks and small children.

So I got that goin' for me.

 

It's like most tourist towns. As long as you don't commit the unwritten, but real crime of "contempt of cop" they will try to give you every break they can. However, if you are DUI, I'm sure they will arrest you since you are now a public safety hazard.

 

They let a lot of it slide so long as people aren't overly aggressive or causing problems. I've seen Metro just tell people to move it along rather than jam them up.

It's a party city and they know that drunkenness is going to be high.

 

It's very much like New Orleans. Both cities public alcohol consumption is legal. You really have to go out of your way to get arrested in Vegas. I've seen people get arrested many times in Vegas but it was always NYE

 

I dont think the really care that much as long as you are under your own steam. lay face down in the gutter and you will get some attention.

Also, if you do see the cops and are drunk, just keep moving and behave yourself. Its the idiots who go up to them or yell and carry on that get their hassled.

Its a place full of adults, drink as much as you like and have fun but remember, you are an adult.

 

I was in Casino Royale a couple years ago and this guy was basically black out drunk. He had that look in his face like the computer was not processing anything. At first they made him leave the casino. Then he came back and was just talking gibberish. Long story short it took about an hour of them giving him every out possible before they had him arrested. I tried to do my good drunk deed for the day and level with him but there was no getting through. Bottom line, it really takes a lot or a deliberate act that is really affecting other people to get arrested.

 

Getting drunk is not a crime last I heard.

 

In most places, Public Intoxication is a crime.

 

On a taxi ride from the Four Queens to Pawn Stars I noticed a Boat load of Bail bonds places and lawyers offices...They all looked like they were prosperous...I am guessing that there are enough arrests to keep them in business. On the other hand, I observed the large amount of Well Behaved drunk partiers on Fremont Street and never saw anyone get hassled by any security/police....key word= well behaved.

 

watch episodes of 'Vegas Strip' - it gives you a good idea of what they tolerate and what gets your ass thrown in jail...

 

Yeah, but that tends to be implemented as a drunk and disorderly rule. It's not like there are cops waiting outside of bars to arrest people merely for walking out...unless they commit some concomitant offense (public urination, defacing property, DUI, etc.).

 

I believe Nevada has some of the toughest DUI laws in the country.

 

Well, since vegas openly allows consumption on city streets(not all), it appears to be low on their priority list.

 

That reminds me of other billboards I've seen, apparently people in vegas have bad teeth, I recall one billboard of a slimy dentist with slicked back hair advertising his teeth pulling prowess, he boasted that "no one pulls more teeth than me"...so much for modern dentistry.

 

I've been stopped in so-called "random" DUI checkpoints twice now in Las Vegas. Once at 0-dark-hundred on the north Strip and the other mid evening on Flamingo by the Tuscany. Once I admitted to having a few casino drinks and they had me out there touching my nose and walking a straight line and such while my so-called friends were laughing their @$$es off!

In most casinos and other place it seems like if you're able to stand and walk (and play, of course) they won't do anything unless you're really obnoxious and even then they seem to let it slide.

I've also been told (by the ubiquitous "they") that LV Metro PD will no longer respond to minor disorderly conduct calls at casinos, and will tell them to simply have their local security throw them out.

Having family members in the legal profession, there are plenty of comments most trips with them.

The whole area just east of Pawn Stars is known as Lawyers Row, and many of the houses along the numbered streets have been converted to law offices. The counsel of one of my clients is on 6th. right in there.

The courthouses, City Hall, and the local slammer are all in that area and it makes things handy.

Yes, Las Vegas is regarded as a very litigious community! Injury lawyers abound! My brothers freely use the term "Ambulance Chasers", which is a pejorative in the legal community, and those are regarded as the very very bottom of the legal pecking order. The specialty is, however, incredibly lucrative! Typically they will advertise heavily ("In a wreck? Need a check?"), threaten to sue a well-insured vict^H^H^H^Hdriver and accept a token settlement, splitting it with the client. Criminal defense amd DUI defense are also booming businesses in LV.

 

I said getting drunk is not a crime, and you disagree? I guess vegas is filled with criminals then.
