Momma told me not to say anything if I couldn’t say anything nice. Copper Whisk’s overhead lighting was nice.

Wanting to try Copper Whisk’s Oxtail Soup, I entered the establishment shortly before 2:40 to avoid the dinner rush. Few tables were occupied. I was immediately seated by a smiling hostess near the front and given a menu. What a pleasant surprise it was to find the classic (1896) American Anchor Steam Beer listed.

2:41 ~ I checked the time as I had been waiting a couple of minutes for someone to bring me water or take my order. I unsuccessfully tried to catch the eye of the 3-4 employees chatting around front desk.

2:45 ~ Still no one had come to my table. A different group of employees were chatting around the desk. I waved. Nobody noticed.

I was studiously ignored by employees walking by. Hmm… I had recently showered and I was wearing my last clean shirt, my hair was combed, my pants zipped.

2:50 ~ I boldly stopped a waiter. I am pretty sure he would have ignored me if I hadn’t all but tackled him. He looked about and started to tell me that I was not in his section, but I interrupted and I informed him how long I had been there and told him what I wanted. A standard-issue service-industry smile plastered his face and he said that he would notify my server.

2:59 ~ 2:flippin'-59!!! No other employee had yet spoken with me. I went to the front desk and interrupted another gaggle of employees joyfully chatting away. As a cashier was giving me a standard, “I’m sorry, sir…” I interrupted and gave her the complete rundown. She gets bonus points for a look of actual surprise and embarrassment.

3:01 ~ Nobody had yet come to my table. NOBODY.

    3:02 ~ That’s it. I was outta there.

As I was walking out, I see a woman walking to a nearby table, deliver their food, then I hear, “Your soup’s here.” A woman placed this on my table and skedaddled.

I was so hungry by this time that I immediately started slurping. The rice was somewhat warm, but the soup was almost hot. It may have been good, but I was in no mood to grant any concession.

3:04 ~ I noticed an employee approaching the cafe from the casino and look around around while holding a bottle of Anchor Steam Beer. She saw me wave at her, then came and plopped the bottle down on my table. As she turned to return toward the casino, I halted her and requested a glass. She looked confused, said nothing, but went off in a different direction.

3:05 ~ Another employee dropped off what I took to be an empty water glass.

Worst service in my entire life (I'm 67).

I was there for two weeks in february, and I agree. The new front desk is just a hub for chatting, and the service stinks on ice. Couple that with shifty food options now, and I think I will find new options.

I went twice. The food I had was great but one server was just ditzy while the other was pleasant and competent. I agree about the front desk gossiping which I believe was an issue before. 50% success on servers is an improvement on Courtyard but they can't charge those prices for long with that kind of service.

Have you noticed that it takes much longer to get your food? I don't get that either.

I was there beginning of Feb. It felt as if they were still in soft opening mode so I didn't think much of it. But, yeah, it did seem slow.

it sounds like the same shitty service from the Courtyard Café. I never had a problem with the food so much there but the service SUCKED! I doubt if I will be going to the Whisk. same shitty service at twice the price -- no thanks.

Next time, try Baliwicks. I looked at the menu at the Copper Whisk and wasn't impressed. Went to Baliwicks instead and enjoyed the meal and the service. Great fish and chips using halibut as the fish!

I agree, same shitty service from the old Cafe.
I saw many people chatting around, but good luck getting service before, during, or after.

Best thing to do is order it and bring it up to your room if you are staying there.

No need to sit down and get ignored and also get shitty service.

I'm so disappointed. The courtyard cafe was a staple for breakfast for us.

The fact that the service is dismal will definitely have me looking at other options.

I guess your results may vary.......I was there at the end of Feb (around 5 pm, it was not busy at all) and my service was quick, always had people hovering asking about refills, how it was, etc........I can't comment on price vs old cafe, I was never at the old one.

As a frequent traveler to the Orleans, I always found the Courtyard café acceptable because the prices were low enough to justify having to put up with the slow service. On my last visit in February, I stopped at the new copper whisk to look at the menu. Even though I always get my meals comped when I charge them to my room, I walked right out and took a 10 minute walk to Denny's down the street. Better prices and better service.

When I was there, they still had a limited room service menu. Assuming it gets updated to reflect the Copper Whisk menu, it's still not going to be very substantial. Another thing: I don't know if Courtyard did carryouts but Copper Whisk does not. You have to order and then do a to go box. The Asian restaurant does do carryout, though and they seem to have their stuff together.

What a shame to hear this. Very surprised as most of the other restaurants at the O are pretty well managed. I hope those of you that had negative experiences reported them as the only way things will change is to hear the negative feedback. It's kind of funny also that my May/June mailing arrived today and 1/4 of the inside of the flyer was promoting the "All New" copper wisk cafe.

At least there are plenty of other alternatives at the place to choose from, but having a dependable 24 hour cafe is really a nice thing to have.

Had a pleasant breakfast experience there 2 weeks ago. It was a Thursday morning, about 8am and standing room only. There was a wait for a table, but this was like 5 minutes. No problem.
My brother and I were seated and given menus. About 5 or 6 minutes pass, and someone comes to take our drink order. Another 5 minutes and I've got my cranberry juice and my brother, his coffee. About another 5 minutes pass and our waiter drops by to say "hi" and says he will be right back after dropping off this order and come take ours. He was very pleasant, kind of robotic in a way, but he got the job done.
I ordered the Breakfast BLT (which was delicious BTW) and bro had the pancakes and eggs breakfast. These arrived about 20 minutes after we placed our orders. No problem, they were extremely busy in there. The food was hot and fantastic. Check came to the table before we were completely done.
Paid at the cashier with our $15 YAH vouchers from the Wednesday night before.

    Would surely go back again.

I guess that my timing really sucked. The previous Wednesday, March 1st, I tried to swipe my card for the Young at Heart (YAH), and was told that it had been cancelled. I have since learned that it was cancelled for out-of-towners, but has since been restarted.

Does anyone know if they have any breakfast specials? Courtyard Café used to have a fantastic steak and eggs deal - I want to say it was $7 or maybe $8? - and it was fantastic. They probably don't have this anymore though, do they? Sigh.

My impression of all the "dining" changes at Boyd is that they upped the prices along with the ambiance, but the food is the same (being generous) or worse than it was before.

Combine this with the new comp changes (no multipliers for out of towners), 72 hours between offers even if at different properties (which isn't as much of a hardship as it seems as most are only getting one offer per 2 month period!), etc. Just not feeling the Boyd love as much as we used to.
