So my wife and I are looking to start off a 4 night trip at the end of May with a free night. Problem is that the only MyVegas free nights are for Excaliber or Monte Carlo. Generally, this would be a no-brainer for MC but with the construction that is going on, I am unsure. Of those that have stayed at both recently, what say you?

Even with construction, I would go with Monte Carlo. I doubt construction will be going on in the middle of the night so the only inconvenience would be with some dust on the outside?

Keep in mind if you want a pool, Monte Carlo doesn't currently have one. I think I read they're sending people over to MGM?

My GF and I stayed at the MC a few years ago and it was ok. We've also stayed at Excalibur. We heard all kinds of complaints about the rooms and noise and such but we didn't have a problem with our room. It was quiet, it was clean, and it had a shower. That's about all we need. How long do you hangout in the room? We only are in the room for about 4 hours a day. Long enough to shower and catch some sleep so we don't need a fancy room that we barely use.

Monte Carlo if for nothing else but because it is centrally located and walking distance to all things Aria which I love!

If the higher cost of coins for Monte Carlo doesn't impact your ability to enjoy any other rewards from Myvegas while in town, I'd go with Monte Carlo for sure. MGM and Mandalay Bay pools are excellent.

I thought I saw they were allowing MC guests to use the MGM pool as well as the Mandalay Bay pool. If you don't mind the hike (or monorail ride from Excalibur), it seems like a really cost effective way to take in that MB lazy river.

Just a thought, considering the MC has a tram to center strip, does Excalibur have things around it that you want to do?

My wife and I are wanderers, so what is directly around us really doesn't matter much. I was pretty much asking what is worse, the construction that is ongoing at the MC or the reputation that precedes the Excaliber.

In staying in the MC for the whole of April. The location is the key. I usually take the tram to Bellagio and walk through to Cosmo. It's close enough to MGM. Being more centrally located makes a big difference. It's not the classiest Mlife hotel but after the renovation I have hopes.... it's still such a functional hotel. You can get the lift to your room very fast from the taxi drop off without going into the casino area. The pool will be the MGM to use if you wish to use one. Pain in the arse for sure. The rooms aren't that bad. Just tired.

Even if it does, not like MC is by Flamingo Road. Still easily walkable

But MC has a tram to Bellagio. Excalibur is completely isolated.

Umm, it's got interior connections to Luxor and Mandalay bay and a bridge to NYNY...

We have stayed at both. They are both ok, but MC is a better location for getting out and about. They are both too far south of my favourite area, but I would stay at both again.

Our only time redeeming a free MC reward was far from ideal. The Myvegas comped rooms are at the end of the corridors. No exceptions, we were told.

First allocated room was already occupied, second had no wifi signal, third was not cleaned from previous guests. Fourth was vacant, thank goodness. It was a bad view with a filthy window, but i think I would have died if I'd had to go back to the front desk again. My Fitbit almost exploded while I was trying to get a room there. Those corridors are long!
