    My Trip Report

    Background:
Last year I was downtown for the first time since the mid 90’s, and I stayed at El Cortez. There were some maintenance problems with my Tower Room, and I thought I’d stay somewhere else next time. My offers from 4Q dried up since that trip, and El Co offered me a Cabana Suite for three nights so I’m back again. Since experiencing the new Fremont St last year, it’ll be my go to destination when I’m solo.

    Few Set Plans:
Oscar’s Thursday night (25% off ACG coupon). Check out the Mint 400 festivities, race trucks & buggies which will be on Fremont St East Friday morning. I have a Neon Museum tour Saturday. Other than that, I want to focus my gambling at a couple other places downtown to generate some better offers. My wife and I are staying at Cosmo for the first time next month so I might Uber down there, get an Identity card and play some.

    Vices:
Gambling of course…mostly video poker, some penny slots, a stint or two at a $1 machine, maybe some craps and 3/2 BJ. I’ll bring a small stash of cigars (something I can’t do with the wife around). I will likely consume more than my fair share of cocktails and probably eat too much red meat.

I’m at work tonight til 2 AM. I get about 3-4 hours of sleep, get the kid to school in the morning, finish packing and then off to the airport…Southwest boarding group A.

Good luck. When you check in go check out your room to make sure they don't give you one of those small "deluxe" rooms. Those rooms are so small you don't have much room in there. Your whole bed takes up the alcove area. There isn't a real desk but just something to put the flat screen tv on (no real chair either, just one of those 3 foot things you can sit on in your living room). If they do give you that room, go back and ask if they will give you another larger room. I would never stay in that room at the Cabana suites again. Very uncomfortable.

Rough night/morning with three 1 hour naps. All checked in at airport and doing pregame warm-ups.

Thanks for the advice. They told me my room is the Cabana Super. I think that's the next size up?

I stayed in one of those in December. I like the rooms but the bathrooms are the best part. 2nd best part is they have 2 A/C units in there. If you don't see the other one just look behind the couch. I think I gave myself frostbite from getting it so cold. Enjoy El Co.

I just checked into my room at El Cortez. I'll post a video and some travel pictures later. Right now I'm off to Oscar's Steakhouse at Plaza for dinner.
