Wife and I are considering MSS for a portion of our visit, but was wondering about a few things....

    Do all rooms have refrigerators?
    How's the parking situation?
Can you check-out from the TV/Online? (loved this feature when we stayed at Orleans)

General things we should know about staying here?

    Thanks everyone!

Ah MSS....my favorite place! Will be there in April for 4 nights.

    All rooms have fridges now.
Parking is free with valet (please tip), or you can try the garage or the across street parking w/validation.
    Yes, you can checkout Online/TV.

Some of the rooms have been re-modeled with showers (only a few though)
The tub/shower combo shower head is now higher!
Rooms either face the freeway or the railroad.

Enjoy the 777 Brewpub or the Boars Head Bar!

MGinCO covered it very well. Your room key will get you in and out of the parking garage seamlessly. This is prob the path of least hassle. Also pick up a brochure at the front desk that lists all of the in-house antiques. Take the elevator up by the front entrance to see Winston Churchill's snooker table. The buffet is a great value for the money with their signature staples. Specialty buffets (I.e. weekend brunch and BBQ Tuesday nights) suffer from underachievement, but their mainstays usually save the day.

Plus, never a charge for early check in. Their comps are great. Even for low rollers.

Yeh .Have checked in as early as 7-8am several times. Rooms ending in 01-02 have the new showers in on each floor. Take the "lift" in casino on Main Street side to see Winston Churchills pool table. Low number rooms are closer to Main street, farthest from tracks. Odd number rooms are on side away from interstate. If you have laundry to get cleaned, there is coin laundry at RV park across street by interstate. Need room key to use

As to an actual STD room...
King size bed or 2 queens.
End table, round table and 2 chairs by windows.
Large low dresser with large screen flat tv on top, small fridge. NO coffee maker.
Pole lamp that may or may not be working.
LED bulbs in room, making it sorta not too bright.
If you like it real dark, you are out of luck, because all windows have slats, and not drapes.
Cut-out for suitcase and room to hang clothes. Safe inside this area, using a real key.
Small sink area outside of small bathroom. Tub/Shower combo, with shower curtain.
Pretty simple basic towels. Plastic wrapped plastic cups.
The bed is great though IMO.

Overall, a pretty basic room, but it's always been enough for me.
And it never takes you more than 5min to get to your room!
    Don't expect WYNN or Cosmo.

I loved the smallness of this place plus the great gambling and free comps.

Highest rated downtown hotel on tripadvisor (probably because of cost and no resort fee), Largest basic rooms downtown. All rooms except ending in xx18 (suites) are basic.
Are you taking a Boyd Hawaiian trip, with foodbook. Also, sister connected property, the Cal, is nice. Newly redone rooms in west wing and working on east wing.

Agree with everything here. I just wanted to add a few photos. The first one is of the upgraded bathroom in the 01-02 rooms:

The next 3 are from the meeting room (name escapes me) that is just of to the side by the elevators by the lobby. A must see if you get the opportunity.

"As to an actual STD room", I certainly don't want to get a STD in one of their rooms.

Not at all an authority.....but from a newbie viewpoint based on our October 2016 trip (we hadn't been to Vegas in 10 years or so).....for the price you can't go wrong. The price quoted is the price paid (no resort fee) which just from "it's the principle of the thing" viewpoint was important to me; mini-fridges in every room, also important to me; the bed was great, the linens were very nice, and housekeeping was done daily and well; the casino is quite nice, large enough but without being too large; a decent selection of eateries (2) at a nice price point, but adding in the selections at the Cal, just across the way makes it way more choices than you would probably have a chance to try; and the location is fine, off the craziness of Fremont Street, but close enough to make it a non-issue to walk back and forth.

Unless you really need luxury in your accommodations, I don't think you would be disappointed.

I'll be staying at MSS myself for the first time in October. Will be my first time staying Downtown, too. I'm really looking forward to seeing how my trip will be different when i'm spending more time Downtown than I usually do. I picked MSS because it really does look like the best value hotel that isn't a complete hovel, and I wanted to spend less on the hotel and more on the activities this time around. And i'm so glad the rooms all have fridges!

When checking in at MSS, ask for a parking pass, which you can put on your dash for free entry into the self-parking garage which is literally just outside the north door to the casino. Another parking secret is that you can drive to the top of the parking garage and then continue down until you find a great parking spot near the elevator or stairs on level 2. (You are on level 1 - 3 - 5 on the way up and levels 2 & 4 on the way down.) Then you can exit through the back way from the garage - no entry in the rear). This is the closest parking at any hotel in LV, and easy in and out, too.

One problem with MSS is that even with no resort fee, they will ding you for $9.99 per day, PER DEVICE, for internet access. My laptop and my wife's I-pad add 20 to the daily rate. They have great bartenders, great beer in 777 (and on the casino floor) fairly cheap gift shop, full pay VP, good buffet, easy access to everywhere else downtown, never a line at check-in -
Not sure what more you could want in a hotel.

It is the Pullman and back in the day it was a terrific restaurant. Now it's a banquet and meeting room. What a shame. But in the last contract with the Culinary Union, they agreed if the restaurant ever did reopen, it could be staffed with non-union workers. So maybe something is in the works.

Thanks Joe! I could easily see that opening as a high(er) end restaurant sometime.

Here are a few more pictures of the Pullman, including the railcar that was the after dinner drink and smoking lounge.

I'll be checking into MSS tomorrow for 4 nights, thanks for the info on the 01-02 rooms, I'll have to try and score one of those. Showerheads are vertically challenged in the standard rooms. All the times I've been there and I've never visited the billiards tables...

Ask for a room facing south. The north facing rooms face the freeway so gets noisy. Also ask for a low numbered room so you are away from the train tracks. South facing rooms also have a view of the plaza and looks down main st.

Confirmed that parking is free for hotel guests in their parking structure if you pick up a parking pass at the front desk.

If you are bringing a car, there is a lot for guests that are checking in. It is next to the parking structure and it allows you about 20 or so minutes to bring in your suitcases and check in and go up to your room before you come back down to move your car to the parking structure.

One other thing, if you need to wash your clothes, your MSS key will allow you entry to the Laundromat that is located in the Boyd RV lot. The entrance to that lot is right after the freeway overpass on Main St.
