This space seems cursed. I first went in when it was "People's Republic", whatever the hell that was, it closed in months, then the Pete Rose thing which didn't last long, now this.

On the surface that spot should be gold. In the summer months especially you'd think it would pull people in who are walking that side of the strip from MGM to PH for a quick beer but it hasn't happened. It's just a weird dead zone that people seem to ignore.

It had to be the fact that NO ONE walked in, because an outfit like this would pump money in for quite some time until it caught on.. Did he have a month to month lease or is he eating the lease?

I planned on going there this past January but never made it.

I walked past there a few times while it was open and the place was dead. I never saw more than a couple customers in there at a time.

Just a thought, but this place seems so much better suited for DT than the Strip. DT, everything is closer together and, I would guess, most of the customers have probably had their drink on when they can stumble a few more feet to the restaurant. Their Strip spot wasn't actually connected to a hotel. Which means it was a longer walk to get from a hotel or casino to get to the restaurant. Plus, there's not much else in Hawaiian Marketplace to really draw customers in and hang around the area. I don't really see Strip patrons wanting to put on a costume to eat some cheap food. The place just seems to fit the DT dynamic better than the Strip

Hawaiian Marketplace is one of those places you WALK THRU, but really do not stop. Just the way it is. So much "junk" there.

I did not know it had moved. I was surprised it lasted as long as it did downtown. it's vegas, they took a gamble.

    Flatline!

Sounds like there were not enough people there to paddle!

Exactly, the area is full of people hawking bullshit and just has a blah feeling. That whole stretch from MGM to Planet Hollywood is easily my least favorite piece of land. From the Marshalls, weird 24 hour food court amongst souvenir shops and that movie theatre (not sure if that is still open) - to the now defunct Harley Davidson restaurant. Just a stretch of blah that could be put to better use.

    (Jeez, quoting my own post!)

If it was in Hawaiian Marketplace I'm not surprised it closed! That place was a BIG disappointment. I had expected it to be like the old REAL International Marketplace, like on those streets all beginning with K which I cannot pronounce, but it never got to be even a cheesy recreation of same! :(

Not sure if anyone mentioned it here, but the stripping of Pete's name from the biz and the conversion to a Heart Attack Grill was chronicled in most of the usual Vegas news outlets. I wondered how they could have made such a horrible business evaluation of the location if it was closed in less than two months. Vital Vegas suggests there's more to the story and that he'd cover it in a podcast. (I haven't heard a recent podcast, so I don't know if he has discussed it, but I don't recall a blog post about it.)

even if it is a crummy location on the strip, it is still the strip. and strip rent ain't gonna be cheap. if no one was dining there they, it would not take long to close.

For over a decade we have stayed at Polo Towers and walked through the Hawaiian Marketplace to the strip. The HM always seemed like it should be in a good location with lots of foot traffic to support the shops and restaurants there. The reality is most of the space inside is empty and there is nothing but carts selling junk and a few quick bite type places outside that offer no value over anyplace else. Something needs to be done in that stretch between PH and the M&M store to give it some life.

I walked by there a couple of times. Once before it opened and once after it did. I really couldn't tell open from not-open. Just my 2 cents, but I didn't see any kind of eye-catching or interesting marketing that would've drawn in a crowd. With that name and reputation the possibilities are endless.

Uh, the REAL one in Waikiki also closed and has been redone. Now it doesn't even look like the old one, now it looks high class, expensive and fancy. None of us locals have visited the place yet, I think it's been open for over 6 months already. Not even close to the old one that had more of a "local" atmosphere. This one looks like the rest of the stores in the area, meaning expensive and only for the tourists who want to pay high prices for stuff.

As for the one in Vegas, I am also disappointed in that one. Too cheesy and "fake" and they just can't attract any regular stores or clientele. Too bad they didn't put an in n out there previously, at least it would have brought in customers. Too late now with In n Out by the Linq.

I would have expected them to have torn down that place long ago and put up something better.
